Back in November 54-year-old Timothy Keith Radford was found shot to death inside his Asheville, North Carolina home. 22-year-old Christopher Jordan Johnson and 26-year-old Christina Marie Guffey have been charged with his murder while Johnson is the alleged triggerman.
Radford was said to have taken out an ad on craigslist requesting some kind of assistance. Instead of assistance police say that Johnson shot Mr. Radford then the pair stole several items from Radord’s home. Police were led to them when they discovered their hotel receipt in Mr. Radford’s home.
Asheville has a reputation of being a very friendly community. It’s known colloquially as the Berkeley of the Blue Ridge. Mr. Radford was probably reaching out to his community for help but instead was met with great tragedy. No matter how friendly the community there are going to be people on craigslist looking for victims. It is not a safe method of outreach. You’re better off contacting local charities or governmental resources. That way you have a much better chance of staying safe.
UPDATE 12/1/2014: Johnson has pleaded guilty to second degree murder.
UPDATE 12/7/2014: Christina Marie Guffey was sentenced to 10 years after pleading guilty to accessory after the fact of second-degree murder.
