I have to give the news station credit for using the word rape in the headline. It may be statutory rape but it’s still rape nonetheless, but I’m getting a head of myself.
29-year-old Ronald Curtis Brown of Billings, Montana is accused of using social site MeetMe to have sex with at least two underage girls. Police say that Brown’s MeetMe profile listed his age as anywhere between 13 and 16. I’m not exactly sure how he pulled off that cunning ruse.
One of his victims is 14 and police say that he would pick her up at school during lunch so they could have sex. That’s not creepy in the least. It’s also being said that she was aware of Brown’s true age. Police were led to Brown when the girl’s mother found messages from Brown on the girl’s iPod Touch. His second victim is 15 and they allegedly had sex at Brown’s home while Brown’s 3-year-old daughter was in the next room. To top it all off police caught up to him by posing as a 13-year-old girl on Kik. So no using the ‘she said she was 18’ defense here. Although at the time of his arrest police say he tried using the ‘I was hacked’ excuse which really doesn’t work when the police know the exact time and location you’re supposed to meet someone from the ‘hacked’ messages.
Montana prosecutors aren’t fooling around though as they’ve charged Brown with 13 felony counts of sexual abuse of children and sexual intercourse without consent and are holding him on $200,000 bond. That’s much better than the usual slap on the wrists we’ve seen on some suspects.
