One of Cassie Jo Stoddart’s killers is seeking a new trial yet again

Cassie Jo Stoddart

Cassie Jo Stoddart

In 2006 16-year-olds Torey Adamcik and Brian Draper brutally stabbed and killed their friend, 16-year-old Cassie Jo Stoddart of Pocatello, Idaho. They even recorded portions of their crime. Again from my first post on Cassie Jo’s murder

“Just killed Cassie, we just left her house, this is not a f***ing joke,” says Brian Draper on the homemade videotape. “I’m shaking,” replies Adamcik.”I stabbed her in the throat and I saw her lifeless body just disappear,” says Draper.

Both were tried as adults, both were convicted and both were sentenced to life in prison. Another thing they have in common is that they both have sought to receive new trials and so far both of their convictions have been upheld. Now, once again, Adamcik is trying again for a new trial and the reasoning behind it astounds me in its equal parts cruelty and stupidity.

“The theory of the case is that Torey didn’t inflict the fatal wound and due to missteps by the defense, critical evidence that would have supported that theory of the case was excluded,” said Dennis Benjamin, Adamcik’s attorney.

Torey Adamcik

Torey Adamcik

Cassie Jo was stabbed 29 times. So Adamcik’s lawyer is actually arguing that out of the 29 times that she was stabbed his client didn’t administer the stab that killed her. So what were they then, paper cuts, flesh wounds? This is the ultimate insult to not only Cassie Jo’s memory but to her family as well.

Hopefully the courts will see this for the idiocy it is and keep this murdering coward behind bars for the rest of his unnatural life.

ABC News gets the Columbine effect right, then gets it very wrong

Please watch the following video from ABC News in its entirety. You can also watch it at their website.

This was a segment by correspondent Pierre Thomas for ABC News’ This Week With George Stephanopoulos. I thought Mr. Thomas did a great job at first discussing the copycat shootings that were inspired by Columbine. It said all the right things without glorifying the guilty. I greatly appreciated how it was pointed out that a lot of the shootings had to deal with mental illness. I wish they would have said something to make seeking mental health treatment less stigmatized but it’s a start. Then at about the 4:12 mark it goes completely off the rails.

At that point Mr. Thomas interviews one Dillon Cossey. Cossey pleaded guilty in 2007 to plotting an attack against Plymouth-Whitemarsh High School at the age of 14. At this point in the interview the bullying trope is brought out. It’s like there’s a mandate for all American media that if you’re talking about school shootings you have to mention bullying in the piece whether it’s factual or not. If Cossey was bullied it didn’t happen at the school he was attending at the time because Cossey was being home-schooled at the time of his arrest.

Another thing that should have been brought up about how to stop some of these shootings is parenting. I would say just about all the shootings that were committed by juveniles could have been prevented if the parents just paid closer attention to their kids, stopped trying to be their friend instead of their parent, and having a modicum of common sense. If your kid has an unhealthy obsession with mass murderers it’s not ‘just a phase’. It means they are in need of psychiatric help. As an example of what not to do we’ll go back to Dillon Cossey. His parents were both arrested after his arrest because they were the ones who bought him a .22-caliber handgun, a .22-caliber rifle and a 9-millimeter semiautomatic rifle.

You get an E for effort ABC News. Maybe next time how about a little more fact checking and a little less dissemination of misinformation?

Pa. school stabber inspired by Columbine

Alex Hribal

Alex Hribal

16-year-old Alex Hribal has been moved from a juvenile detention facility to a mental health facility. Hribal is facing 21 attempted murder charges for stabbing 21 people at Franklin Regional Senior High School in Murrysville, Pennsylvania, back in April. A psychiatrist for his defense says that Hribal is schizophrenic. A doctor for the prosecution says that Hribal is only depressed because he’s in a correctional facility.

That’s all well and good but what I find more interesting is that during the hearing with the psychologists it was revealed that Hribal’s attack was allegedly inspired by Columbine.

Hribal says he related to how the Columbine attackers felt — and that he felt ostracized in school. He also said he didn’t expect to survive the knife attack, that it would be his message to the world. Hribal even wanted to carry out his attack on April 20, the anniversary of the Columbine tragedy, but moved the date because school was not in session that day.

He’s not mentally ill. He’s just another mutant/columbiner who incorrectly identifies with the Columbine cowards. Hate to break it to you kid but they weren’t ostracized. They had plenty of friends and were pretty popular.

Not everyone gets to be the big man on campus, kids. The sooner you can deal with that the better your life will be. Or you can be like this mutant and be looking down the business end of a several decade prison sentence. The choice is yours.

Is there a link between Columbine and other shootings? Hell yeah there is

According to WMAR in Baltimore, researchers are trying to find a link between Columbine and other mass shooters. I am far from a learned scholar but if you’ve been paying attention for the past 15 years it’s hard not to notice a link.

Columbine is the firs of what I call the five major school shootings in America. The others being Red Lake, Virginia Tech, NIU and Newtown. In each of those cases the shooters, Jeff Weise, Cho Seung-Hui, Stephen Kazmierczak and Adam Lanza, all had some degree of not only fascination with Columbine but in some cases sympathy or hero-worship of the killers. Weise wanted his shooting to be on the anniversary of Columbine. Cho referred to the Columbine killers as martyrs in his videotaped manifesto. Kazmierczak had an obsession with both the Columbine shooting and the Virginia Tech shooting. Lastly most recently Adam Lanza kept spreadsheets with detailed information about Columbine and other mass shootings. That’s not even mentioning other school shooters that don’t get as much attention like TJ Lane, Alvaro Castillo, Kimveer Gill, Aaron Ybarra, etc.

One researcher goes on to mention the media’s role in all this without saying if they’re to blame one way or the other. I think the media does share some of the blame as more and more media outlets try to be first rather than correct along with the sensationalist nature of today’s major news sources. Reports from these sources can sometimes be viewed as glorifying the killers.

The other thing that is a problem is the dissemination of misinformation that has perpetuated since Columbine. What’s the first thing that people think when they hear a school shooting has happened? Most people will wrongly assume that the shooter must have been bullied, yet there is no evidence that any of the six gunmen involved in the five major school shootings were bullied. Yet as I’ve said many times before this bullying trope, or myth as a I like to call it, has refused to die in the face of evidence that says otherwise.

I used to refer to people who idolized or sympathized with school shooters mutants. Since that time the internet has latched on to the term columbiners. Kids who weren’t even alive during the time of Columbine are on the internet professing their dedication to the two cowardly killers from Columbine and the others that have killed after them. Any one of them could be your kid. This is not normal behavior for anyone and will only set them down a path of destruction either for themselves or someone else. If your kid is one of these Columbiners intervene before it’s too late.

Anti-bullying video pulled by school district in wake of Sparks Middle School shooting

Washoe district stops showing anti-bullying video ‘Teen Truth':

Someone thought this was a good idea

Someone thought this was a good idea

Back in October when 12-year-old Jose Reyes shot and killed teacher Michael Landsberry and himself at Sparks Middle School there was a story that went around that Reyes may have been influenced by an anti-bullying video that depicted a school shooting. At the time the school district denied any knowledge of such video. Now the school district is pulling the video that they had no previous knowledge of.

The movie entitled ‘Teen Truth’ not only depicts a fictional school shooting that was caused by bullying but also showed the infamous security cam footage from Columbine.

Now I’m not here to debate whether or not this video actually influenced Reyes or not. Reyes might have already been a mutant prior to the video. What I am here to say is that this video is flawed and never should have been showed to the kids in the first place because not only was Columbine not caused by bullying, the majority of school shootings in this country were not caused by bullying.

This sounds like some company that wanted to make a fast buck since it was was purchased through a grant from U.S. Department of Education. The government will give a grant to just about any damn thing.

Not to mention as I’ve said many times before bullying is not a justification for mass murder. I was bullied mercilessly when I was in school. Looking back I wish I had stood up to them instead of fearing them. Your school years may seem like forever but in reality they’re just a blip on the overall timeline of your life. Don’t let your bullies define you.

I’m going to see if I can find this movie and give it a proper review.

Sparks Middle shooter was a 12-year-old mutant

Nevada school shooter had photos of Columbine gunmen on his phone, left 2 suicide notes:

Chilling details, no motive in Nev. school shooting:

For those of you who may not remember back in October of last year 12-year-old Jose Reyes took a gun to Sparks Middle School in Sparks, Nevada and ended up shooting and killing teacher Michael Landsberry and himself. Recently the Sparks police released a 1300 page report about the shootings.

Now normally I don’t blame these shootings on video games and I’m not now but look at some of the video games this 12-year-old had…

Forty-seven of the 69 video games in the boy’s collection were “violent themed first-person shooter or shooter type games” such as “grand Theft Auto V,” ”Assassins Creed” and “Call of Duty 4.”

Who the hell gets these kind of games for a 12-year-old? These are all M-rated games in the US which means they’re not suitable for anyone under 17. While I’m all for adults being able to play any video game they want if a 12-year-old is exposed to violent games like this it can warp their mind in regards to violence. That’s why they have the ratings but the ratings are only as good as the player’s parents.

Speaking of parents, this is actually not surprising considering that it was his parents’ gun that he used and the only excuse they’ve given is they didn’t know that he knew they had a gun. When I was 12 I knew everything that my dad had and where he hid it. Luckily for both of us they were only a couple of vintage Playboys but 12-year-olds know more of your secrets than you think they do. By the way the Reyes’ are not being charged with any crime even though their gun was unlocked and easily accessible.

What strikes me most about this report is that Reyes was in fact a mutant. Again, that’s my term for a fanboy of the Columbine shooters. Reyes had pictures of the Columbine cowards Harris and Klebold on his cell phone. On his laptop he also had a copy of the Columbine fanboy masturbatory homemade game Super Columbine Massacre RPG.

Also on his cell phone were two suicide notes that seem to be somewhat conflicting…

In one to “teachers and students,” Allen said the boy “clearly expressed anger … over his belief that he was embarrassed and mistreated at school” and “indicated he would get revenge.”

Reyes wrote that he’d been called gay, lazy, stupid, an idiot, had his money stolen and been accused of wetting his pants.

“Well that all ends. Today I will get revenge on the students and teachers for ruining my life,” he wrote, adding that he would bring a pistol and rifle to school “to shoot you and see how you like it when someone (sic) making fun of you.”

“Have a great death at school,” he said on the one-page note of spiral notebook paper he closed with a drawing of a tombstone that read: “Sparks Middle School 1965-2013.”

But in the second contradictory note to his parents, he said “this shooting is not because of the shooting games, bullying or other stuff.” He said it was because “some bad things in the past cause of me.”

“And now I’m just a monster,” Reyes wrote. “If you hate me and my family doesn’t love me it’s okay. I know that I’m just an idiot. But I love you and I wish the past would be good and better someday.”

It seems like to me that the parenting in the Reyes household went from one extreme to the other. They’re either buying an underage kid M-rated games and letting him do what he wants or he’s getting hit by his father.

With that kind of parenting it should be no surprise the kid turned out like this. It’s just unfortunate that he had to use violence in trying to make up for his own inadequacies and take the life of another.

Minnesota mutant busted for plotting attack against Waseca High School

Waseca teen planned school massacre, idolized Columbine shooters:

Waseca teen charged in alleged school massacre plot:

Latest: Waseca police say plot involved killing family, bombing school:

As I’m sure you’ve heard by now 17-year-old John David LaDue, of Waseca, Minnesota, has been arrested and charged with plotting an attack against Waseca High School. LaDue was caught at a storage facility when an employee of the facility called police and said that LaDue was acting suspiciously. When police got there they investigated the storage container and found a metric ass-ton of bomb making materials. Some bomb squad members say it’s the most they’ve ever seen in one place.

LaDue allegedly told police of his entire plot which would have involved killing his parents, setting doiversionary fires to keep fore and EMS busy, placing pressure cooker bombs at the school then shooting his victims as they fled the school.

Not surprisingly it turns out that LaDue is a mutant. That’s my term for a Columbine fanboy/fanfgirl. If you don’t think they really exist just go to Tumblr and do a search for Columbine or ‘columbiner’ as they refer to themselves. I wouldn’t be surprised if he had his own Tumblr. He even originally planned the attack to take place on April 20th of this year which turned out to be a Sunday. He then planned to commit the attacks in the next week or so.

LaDue was also said to be in possession of multiple guns and ammunition at his home. Where they were obtained from has yet to be made public to my knowledge. It also turns out that LaDue was allegedly perfecting his bomb making skills by leaving explosive devices all over town, one in a stuffed Elmo toy at a playground. Luckily that device did not detonate.

Police are saying that LaDue was the only person involved in the plot. No motive has been given as of yet. So far LaDue is being held as a juvenile but I expect that to change considering the amount of firepower that was in his possession.

So once again we have another entitled mutant who can’t come up with an idea of his own and has to deal with his own inadequacies by copying the cowards that came before him with a little Kip Kinkel thrown in this time. Not to mention that on the surface it once again sounds like we have some very inattentive parenting going on if he was able to store guns and bombs in his bedroom. If it wasn’t for the storage employee his parent or parents would have been killed for their inattentiveness.

I haven’t heard the bullying trope trotted out yet but I’m sure it will be at some point.

UPDATE 5/14/2014: LaDue has entered a plea of not guilty. Also of note his dad showed up to the hearing wearing an NRA shirt. Doesn’t sound like Dad’s helping in the least.

Maryland mall shooter was a mutant

Police: Md. mall shooter fascinated by Columbine:

Mall Shooter Modeled Shooting After Columbine:

Darion Aguilar

Darion Aguilar

I don’t blog about every mass shooting in the U.S. Sadly in our society today if I did that I’d have little time for anything else. So please forgive me for not previously blogging about The Mall In Columbia shooting back in January when it happened in Maryland.

In January 19-year-old Darion Aguilar stormed the mall armed with a shotgun. He shot and killed 21-year-old Brianna Benlolo and 25-year-old Tyler Johnson who were employees of the store Aguilar first entered. Then Aguilar turned the gun on himself and took the coward’s way out. Aguilar had no connection to his victims.

Recently it was made public by investigators that Aguilar had a ‘fascination’ with Columbine, obsession would be a better word. Police say that he had the prerequisite Tumblr account with pictured of mass shootings and that he had downloaded a video game based on Columbine. Gee, I wonder what game that could have been. Police also add that prior to the shooting Aguilar took a selfie where he was dressed like one of the Columbine cowards and posted it to Tumblr right before the shootings took place. They also say that Aguilar waited so that the time of his shooting coincided with the same time that the Columbine shooting started. I think it’s safe to say that this coward was just another mutant. Mutant is the term I use for people who emulate, worship, or have sympathies for school shooters, specifically the Columbine cowards Harris and Klebold.

In his private journals Aguilar talked about being mentally ill and hearing non-violent voices. He went to a doctor who referred him to a psychiatrist but Aguilar never saw one. Apparently he was not comfortable talking to his mom about it. So rather than being a man and going to get help on your own or being man enough to talk to your mom about it you just go ahead and kill two random strangers in tribute to your cowardly heroes.

There’s no shame in seeking help but there’s plenty in cowardly violence.

Sandy Hook report released

Newtown gunman Adam Lanza had ‘obsession’ with Columbine:

Adam Lanza

Adam Lanza

Another story that I’ve been woefully behind on is that of the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School last year. Back in late November the state of Connecticut released their final report. You can read a PDF of the report here.

What a lot of media outlets have been focusing on is that Adam Lanza was obsessed with Columbine. I was about to dismiss this as media hyperbole again especially considering that Lanza had a not only a spreadsheet that detailed numerous mass murders but he also had newspaper clippings and documentation on the shootings at NIU and Nickel Mines, Pennsylvania. That was until I read the report.

On page 27 of the report it states that among the evidence that was seized from Lanza’s room were ‘large amount of materials relating to Columbine shootings.’ So Lanza was just another copycat mutant, an anti-social loser with no originality. And just like his coward heroes the only way he could make himself feel relevant was through the barrel of a gun. Also just like his coward heroes he took the coward’s way out making the flames of hell burn just a little more yellow.

Also listed in the evidence seized were ‘materials regarding the topic of pedophilia and advocating for rights for pedophiles.’ So not only was he a mutant but he was pedo-defending scum too.

Lessons in journalism and The Myth courtesy of the Daily Mail

Actual Daily Mail headline

Actual Daily Mail headline

Bullied schoolboy, 16, ‘plotted British Columbine-style massacre targeting schools, mosques, cinemas and 19 teachers and pupils':

There’s a trial going on over in England right now where a teenager is accused of not only plotting to attack his school but also theaters and mosques.

While reporting on this the Daily Mail calls the suspect a bullied school boy in the above headline then goes on to describe him not only as a self-avowed neo-nazi but also as a racist, a fan of the English Defence League, and a mutant. Well they didn’t use the M word per se but did add that he was a fan of Columbine.

Yeah, if you’re going to be a neo-nazi racist you’re probably going to draw some negative attention to yourself so if this kid was bullied he more than likely brought it upon himself.

When large publications use the word bullied in a headline like this it’s not only a pathetic grab for attention but it perpetuates the myth about school shooters being bullied when the majority of them were not.

UPDATE 11/3/2013: While I expect this kind of thing from the Daily Mail it seems the much vaunted BBC has gotten into the act as well. Here’s the headline they went with recently.

That headline is supposed to catch your eye and I would assume most people would take the headline at face value without further reading the article where they would find this quote.

The defendant told the Old Bailey he had been called a Nazi, a fascist and a racist, at school.

That’s because he is all of those things. If you publicly embrace these kind of ideas you’re inviting abuse on yourself and you don’t deserve any sympathy.

UPDATE 12/8/2013: Back in November the jury deadlocked and a retrial has been ordered.

UPDATE 5/31/2014: The little racist bastard was acquitted after the jury deadlocked again. Sleep well Great Britain as he walks among you.

UPDATE 7/5/2014: It seems there has been a modicum of justice as the suspect has been ‘detained indefinitely’ for mental health issues.
