Backpage has killers too, this one happened in Minn.

Alberto Prece Palmer

Alberto Prece Palmer

Woodbury Man Arrested as Suspect in Brittany Clardy Murder Case:

Man arrested in death of St. Paul teen found in towed car was wanted in violent attacks:

18-year-old Brittany Clardy of St. Paul, Minnesota was reported missing on February 11th. Her body was found on February 21st inside of a car that had been towed from a Brooklyn Park apartment complex to a police impound lot. Investigators say that she was working as a prostitute that had been advertised on Backpage. Police now believe that they have captured her killer.

In March police arrested 23-year-old Alberto Prece Palmer who was staying at a residence in Woodbury, MN. Palmer also has warrants out for his arrest in Georgia where he had attacked other prostitutes from Backpage.

Alberto Prece Palmer, 23, is accused of putting the woman in a closet and raping and beating her. He then allegedly bound and gagged her, wrapped her in blankets and put her in a plastic storage container in her car. She reportedly escaped hours later, said Chamblee, Ga., police Sgt. Ernesto Ford.

So not only does Backpage have their hands in all sorts of sex trafficking of women and children but they also have their hand in a number of murders. Sadly Ms. Clardy is far from the first women to advertise on Backpage to be murdered. Yet Backpage will still insist that it’s their First Amendment right to not only advertise these women but to make a nice little profit off of them as well. It doesn’t matter how many children have been sold for sex, how many girls and women have been raped or how many have been killed. For Backpage it’s all about their bottom line. Apparently the First Amendment rights of Backpage are infinitely more important than the lives of the women and children that are advertised on their site. Again not enough people are outraged about Backpage and they should. I guess ‘Backpage Killer’ doesn’t have the same punch or alliteration as ‘Craigslist Killer’ for these stories to be national headlines.

Licensing and zoning more important than sex trafficking

2 women post $10K bail on new Oxford massage parlor charges:

This is an article from the Worcester Telegram about Lanyun Ma, 42, and Wei Ma, 22, who were both charged with human trafficking while running a backpage advertised massage parlor in Oxford, Mass. However instead of focusing on the horrors of human sex trafficking the article focused more on the matters of the local city council.

Foreign sex workers are often brought in illegally from other countries in horrid conditions and are forced to work of their ‘debt’ by being forced to sexually pleasure any degenerate who can come up with $60 and a tip. Often they are basically kept prisoner, forced to live in the same room they’re violated in and are often held against their will or have their families back home threatened with violence.

Instead of focusing on that the article instead focused on the licensing and zoning of massage parlors in the Oxford area.

This is why hardly anyone gives a crap about sex trafficking in this country. While countless women and children are being sold and violated people in this country are more concerned about what is it doing to their property values.

Des Moines police arrest Backpage lady-trafficker

Maria Jansen

Maria Jansen

Police Arrest Alleged Prostitution Ringleader:

Des Moines police arrest alleged ringleader of prostitution ring:

Police in Des Moines, Iowa have arrested 25-year-old Maria Jansen for allegedly running a prostitution ring on the Village Voice Media owned

As I’m sure you can guess the twist in this story is that police have arrested an alleged female trafficker. It’s a rare occurrence on this site but it dies happen. While female traffickers may be a different stripe of pimp we should refer to them as pimps and not the more romanticized term of madam. They still use similar tactics that are employed by their male counterparts…

“We identified a person who preys on people who are at a bad time in their life,” said Sgt. Chris Scott. “It might be financial issues, it could be other issues and they’re on the edge.”

Just like male pimps female pimps will take advantage of someone’s downfall to sell them into sexual slavery.

Jansen is looking at 15 years behind bars if convicted. Unfortunately due to her gender she would probably serve even less time than the males of her criminal ilk do.

Meanwhile Backpage just continues to count their money they make off of sexual slavery.

Nicholas Morales-Macedo is your latest Backpage rapist

Nicholas Morales-Macedo

Nicholas Morales-Macedo

Silver Spring Man Charged With Sexual Assault:

Man impersonating police officer sexually assaults prostitute in Silver Spring:

Police in Silver Spring, Maryland have arrested 21-year-old Nicholas Morales-Macedo and charged him with allegedly raping a prostitute he got off of the Village Voice Media owned

Police say that after the woman arrived at Morales-Macedo’s home he produced a rifle and told his victim that he was a Montgomery County police officer. He then ‘made her perform a sex act’ as the article says but let’s call it what it is, rape.

Morales-Macedo is being held on $2M bail. You can’t tell me this is a simple assault with that kind of bond.

I would hazard a guess that this probably wasn’t his first rape rodeo. Not only are rapes severely under-reported I would imagine that not a lot of prostitutes in his victim’s condition would go to the police.

And once again we have the vaunted defenders of free speech at Backpage facilitating yet another rape through their adult section, only this time no money was exchanged.

Detroit backpage murder case moved

James Brown (Obviously not THE James Brown)

James Brown (Obviously not THE James Brown) Murder Case Moves to Macomb County:

Wayne County, Michigan, which includes Detroit, has dropped all their charges against James Brown. Brown is believed to be involved with the murders of Demesha Hunt, Renisha Landers, Natasha Curtis and Vernithea McCrary. Three of the women are believed to be prostitutes that were advertising on the Village Voice Media owned

With Wayne County dropping the charges, charges have been filed by nearby Macomb County. Previously investigators said that it was unknown where the murders actually took place. With these new charges being filed I would hazard a guess that they believe they took place in Macomb County.

I guess if Liz McDougall was quoted for this article she’d probably say how great it was that Backpage was able to help catch a killer.

UPDATE 12/2/2012: Brown’s attorney entered a plea of not guilty on his client’s behalf.

ND man facing 20 years for sex trafficking and Trench thinks that’s too much

Chad Lee Lindley

Chad Lee Lindley

Human trafficking charge filed against Fargo man accused of hiring prostitutes on Craigslist:

40-year-old Chad Lee Lindley of Fargo, North Dakota is looking at a 20 year stretch in prison on human trafficking charges. Police say that he was an aspiring pimp advertising for new recruits on craigslist…

“I do have job openings that will provide the fun, provide the case, and provide the lifestyle that you’ll love,”

“Gorgeous young women between the ages of 18 to 40 years old ready to make up to $10,000 or more a week,”

“Must be experienced or know what this job is, professional, seductive, passionate and most of all sexy.”

Now you should know by now that I want to eliminate all forms of human trafficking especially those that are proliferating on craigslist and backpage however 20 years for this schmo is too extreme. Granted he’s a wanna be pimp assbag but as far as I could tell he never actually had any women working for him.

The problem is he’s being made an example. In 2009 North Dakota passed a law that specifically targeted human trafficking. This is the first time it’s being used in the Fargo area. While I most certainly agree that examples should me made out of traffickers this guy isn’t who you want as the poster boy for enforcing trafficking laws. You want the guy who has actually trafficked women and children and sold and traded them as sex slaves. You want the guy who has used violence and intimidation to keep their victims in line. This guy is just Henry Winkler in Night Shift.

Don’t get me wrong, the guy should be charged but any talk of 20 years when traffickers much more deadly than him get less than half of that is laughable.

UPDATE 9/3/2013: Lindley was sentenced to three years. I can live with that.

Feds bust major backpage human trafficking ring

Feds: Sex trafficking ring used ads:

Recently the feds handed down a 50 page indictment against one 27-year-old Johnelle L. Bell of New Jersey for allegedly running a nationwide prostitution and human trafficking ring on the Village Voice Media owned

The ring was based out of Little Rock, Arkansas but trafficked women and girls as young as 17 in at least a dozen states from November of 2009 to June of 2011.

Bell is said to have used the typical cowardly pimp tactics. The girls thought they were in a relationship with Bell before he turned them out on Backpage. He violently assaulted the girls including chokings, beatings and whippings with a belt. There was also the threats of violence against their families. He even had one girl tattooed with his street name of ‘Victorious P’.

Also charged in this ring was 21-year-old Brittany Lawson. While Bell and Lawson were advertising the girls on Backpage Lawson was checking out other women on Backpage that they thought they could ‘recruit’. So in essence Backpage is the new slave trade market.

Of course in such a headline grabbing bust Backpage’s head legal weasel Liz McDougall had something to say of little to no value…

Liz McDougall, general counsel at Village Voice Media, said she was still reading through the indictment Thursday. Generally, she said, “When the feds are able to indict a pimp or a trafficker, I think that is a really good thing.”

No shit? How about commenting on how Backpage facilitated in the trafficking and beatings of these girls? How about commenting on where the money goes from the ads that Bell took out goes? Anything? No. Instead you blather about how it’s a good thing that a pimp was indicted like a mindless drone who had been fed her lines. Tell me Ms. McDougall, is someone at Village Voice Media beating you and threatening your family? If not you’re sure acting like it.

UPDATE 6/7/2012: Johnelle Bell has had his bail denied.

UPDATE 10/14/2012: Lawson has pleaded guilty.

UPDATE 12/2/2012: Bell has been convicted.

UPDATE 7/22/2013: Bell was sentenced to 30 years.

We get letters: Some of us want to be on backpage.

I received the following e-mail from someone who is making a living on the Village Voice Media owned the way you think. She (I’m guessing) is taking me to task for my stance that VVM should shut down the adult section of backpage.

You know what?”? There ARE some people out here like me who have ads on backpage in the adult section for a reason. Some of us out here are just trying to SURVIVE and keep a roof over our heads. And maybe I am the exception to the rule, but I do this not because I WANT to, I do it because I HAVE to. Otherwise my rent doesnt get paid or any of my other bills. I had to live on the gd street one time for 2 years and sleep on a picnic bench at night and I will be DAMNED if I go back to living on the street ever again. I tried looking for a phukking job for 4 YEARS and no one would hire my ass to save my life between my bad credit and a bad past you better forget that noise. I am close to 50 yrs old and I am just barely getting by. No one is making me do this, I am making myself do it because I know what its like to live on the street and I know what its like to have been married a long time ago to an abusive a——— and I had to get rid of that jerk too. Not all of us out here are underage or doing human trafficking crap or whatever else you want to call it. But I will say one thing, you take away the adult section on and I will just go find another website to post my ads on. No one is going to take away what very little income I make and Im talking very little, i just barely make enough to pay my bills and buy everyday essential items. Im below poverty level and thats no joke. So before you go get high and mighty and think you are going to solve the problem, think about some of us out here like me who are just barely making it. If you think I am joking think again. Its like what do you want me to do? starve and live on the street like a bum again? phukk that..

I just have a few things to say about this. The first is some times the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few. I am sorry that you have had to resort to this lifestyle to try to make ends meet however at some point you have to stop blaming others for your circumstances and start taking responsibility for yourself. If you are not under the control of a pimp then there is no excuse. There are programs to assist people like yourself to find a better life.

Is this life worth risking being controlled by a pimp or being raped by a john?

Arrest made in Detroit Backpage murders

Renesha Landers and Denesha Hunt

Renesha Landers and Denesha Hunt

Charges announced in “ Murder Investigation”:

Around last Christmas Detroit was rocked by two pairs of murders. This is Detroit we’re talking about so it takes a lot to shock them. On December 19th the bodies of cousins Demesha Hunt, 24, and Renisha Landers, 23, were found in the trunk of a car. Then on Christmas day the bodies of Natasha Curtis, 29, and Vernithea McCrary, 28, were found inside a burning car. Three of the four victims were prostitutes that advertised on the Village Voice Media owned

24-year-old James Brown of Sterling Heights, Michigan has been arrested in connection with the murders but has not yet been charged with the murders. Police say that’s because they believe the murders themselves may have taken place outside of Detroit.

Backpage actually tried claiming that they were ‘helpful’ in the investigation as soon as the murders occurred. What they should have done is admitted that their site was the directory a murderer used to find his victims. Unfortunately they have 27 million reasons not to do that.

Trafficker used craigslist to recruit women and backpage to sell them

Roshaun Nakia Porter

Roshaun Nakia Porter

Long Beach Man Accused of Running Sex Trafficking Ring:

Long Beach man indicted for allegedly luring women on Craigslist and forcing them into sex trafficking:

Long Beach man allegedly forced women into prostitution in OC:

36-year-old Roshaun “Kevin” Nakia Porter of Long Beach, California was recently indicted on charges of sex trafficking. He’s accused of allegedly forcing several women into prostitution in the Orange County area.

Investigators say that Porter would meet these women on craigslit and a site that bills itself as being the #1 site to find a sugar daddy. The women say they thought they were becoming Porter’s girlfriend. Instead he put them to work on the streets. Just like every other cowardly pimp he threatened them or their families with violence.

Then to complete the circle of slavery he advertised them on the Village Voice Media owned

He was eventually arrested by the Santa Ana police.

Surprisingly he’s looking at life in prison which is what all sex traffickers deserve.

This story points out two things. The first is don’t meet guys on craigslist. They’re probably scummy in one way or another. The second is backpage will say that this is a free speech issue and it’s their constitutional right to make money from the ads where these women are sold against their will.
