Rocori shooter’s mental state scrutinized: (Log in info)

Forensic psychiatric evaluation for Jason McLaughlin: (Log in info)

The first article is about the testimony heard in John Jason McLaughlin’s insanity trial. The second is the psychological evaluation of McLaughlin by Dr. Maureen Hackett. Read them both at your leisure. I’ll even have the evaluation posted on the second page of this entry because it’s worth saving.

A doctor for the prosecution had this to say…

But on Wednesday, Dr. Katheryn Cranbrook, a state psychologist called by prosecutors, said McLaughlin is faking his illness in part because of the teen’s “fantastical” symptoms and because his illness has gotten better even though he has been off medication for a time this summer.

I have to agree based on what I’ve read. According to Dr. Hackett’s evaluation, McLaughlin started having hallucinations while in the sixth grade. He shot Seth Bartell when he was a freshman in high school. So you’re going to tell me that for 3 years no one noticed anything was wrong with him. I find that very hard to believe.

By what Dr Hackett wrote, his symptoms were obvious……
Wow, NO ONE noticed for 3 years! I don’t buy it!!!

I must agree with you Denise. A parent, a teacher, a friend… someone would have noticed something was wrong.

HAVE YOU NOT EVER SEEN A BEAUTIFUL MIND. HOW LONG BEFORE ANYONE KNEW HE WAS MENTALLY ILL? IT HAPPENS PEOPLE. FIRST OF ALL JASON WAS NOT LETTING ANYONE KNOW SOMETHING WAS WRONG AND SECOND ALL OF HIS BEHAVIOR WAS NORMAL FOR A BOY THAT WAS BEGINNING TO HIT PUBERTY. BOYS ESPECIALLY BEGIN TO WITHDRAW FROM FAMILY AND BEGIN DOING THINGS MORE AND MORE ON THEIR OWN AT THAT AGE. IT IS POSSIBLE NOT TO NOTICE JASON IS PROOF OF THAT.

What is your obsession with that movie Jaci? So you’re going to compare a man who won the Nobel Prize in Mathematics to a punk kid who shot and killed
two people? Here’s the big difference. John Forbes Nash wasn’t trying to get out of a jail sentence. If you think someone can hide auditory and visual hallucionations from everyone around him, friends, family, school teachers, doctors, etc. then you’re more gullible than I thought.

I’ve worked with kids for years… and, like I said, I have a son Aaron’s age. But as you said, Jaci, behavior for boys that age was normal? Nope! They may not hang around their parents as much, but withdrawing like that isn’t normal, dear. I’m agreeing with Trench on this one!

I AM JUST SAYING IT HAPPENS QUITE OFTEN NOT JUST IN MOVIES. I WAS USING THE MOVIE AS AN EXAMPLE. I WORK WITH PEOPLE THAT HAVE MENTAL DISORDERS AND MANY TIMES IT ISNT FOUND OUT THAT PEOPLE ARE PARANOIND SCHIZOPHRENIC UNTIL EARLY TO MID TWENTIES. TO LIVE WITH THAT KIND OF ILLNESS AND TRY TO HIDE THINGS YOU KNOW ARE NOT NORMAL IS EVEN MORE DAMAGING TO THE BRAIN BUT IT HAPPENS BECAUSE WE LIVE IN SUCH A SOCIETY THAT PEOPLE ARE SO AFRAID ANDASHAMED OF WHAT IS DIFFERENT ABOUT THEM THAT THEY FEEL THEY MUST HIDE IT IN ORDER TO BE ACCEPTED.

Jaci, you work with people with mental disorders? Then you know that paranoid schizophrenia is not known to occur in pre-pubescent kids…

Jaci – I have a question for you, since you work with people with mental problems? Jason has been off of his medication since Feb, He sat threw the trial without any problems, he feels better off the medication. Professionals state that when you are as sick as Jason says he is that everyone would notice his problems when he is off of the medication. How can Jason be better off of the medication?

It is funny… Jason was offered a plea bargain a year ago stating that he could go the Saint Peter hospital for help, and when they deemed he was well enough he would go to a state prison. Jason did not like that and didn’t accept. But… yet… the defense stated that is where Jason would like to be now. Is that because he could then play video games and order in pizza?

Jason does not feel anything for murdering two people. He only feels bad that he cannot be at home and with his Mom and Dad. When asked if he could do this differently. He didn’t say I would not do this again. He said he would have done it differently… Scarry, ha.

People have forgotten that people can be evil. It doesn’t matter how old they are. And yes, children do know what happens when you point a gun at someone else and shoot them. Jason went threw gun training and was shown how hollow point bullet would damage whatever he shot. This is the bullet he chose because he knew what would happen. Nice Kid…

Never mind her, rosebud, she has joined the elite group of people who think that psychology can heal any kind of ailment. Just sit a quack and talk about your problems and they will all go away. 🙄
