It was the Tongans’ car’s fault

Lawyer probes Explorer’s safety:

This is why I really fucking hate criminal defense attorneys…

REDWOOD CITY The lawyer for the teen accused in the deaths of a royal Tongan couple and their driver wants to explore how much of a role the vehicle carrying the victims may have played in the tragedy.

“We’re checking to see what effect this particular vehicle had,” San Jose-based attorney Randy Moore said

Thursday after a brief court appearance for his client, Edith Delgado, 18, of Redwood City.

Delgado had been scheduled for a preliminary hearing in San Mateo County Superior Court, but Moore asked that the proceeding be postponed so he could gather more information.

Authorities said Delgado was driving a Ford Mustang at a high rate of speed and apparently racing a black Cadillac Escalade on Highway 101 in Menlo Park on July 5.

The Mustang then struck the Ford Explorer transporting Tonga’s Prince Tu’ipelehake, 55; his 46-year-old wife, Princess Kaimana; and their driver, Vinisia Hefa, 36, of East Palo Alto. All three died when their Explorer rolled several times.

Outside the courtroom Thursday, Moore said such things as how safe Explorers are built or how prone they could be “to implode when they roll over” should be studied.

“It could become a critical issue,” he said. “That’s always something to be investigated.”

Pay attention you weasely little fuckwit of a lawyer. The critical issue here is that your client was racing illegally. If she had not been then the Tongan Royal Family would still be alive.

“It’s the car’s fault” is probably the stupidest defense I’ve ever heard.
