Rapists will do years in prison:
Back in March I posted about Ali Saadatmandi and Ali Tayyebi, two accused date rapists from British Columbia who used Nexopia to find their victim.
At the time of that post I hoped that they would be put away for a long time. No such luck.
Saadatmandi got only four years while Tayyebi only got three.
I’d like to hear from my Canadian readers. Is this the kind of sentence you think these sexual predators should have received?
Student who brought weapons to school wants out of detention:
If you’ve been following this site for a while you may remember the story of Robin Kittrell. He was the teen from Whitewater High School in Georgia who brought a cache of weapons to school on the first day of classes allegedly to prevent a Columbine-line situation from happening.
The weapons cache consisted of…
…a 4-inch switchblade knife discovered in Kittrell’s front jeans pocket. Among the weapons were a a Colt .38 Officer’s Model revolver, a Colt semi-automatic 22 pistol, an M1 30 caliber carbine rifle, a 22 caliber long-range rifle, a Ninja-style sword, flex-cuffs, and two speedloaders for the revolvers.
He pleaded guilty to the charges against him and was sentenced to 10 years which consists of boot camp, two years in juvenile detention, one year of intensive probation and the rest on normal probation.
Kittrell’s attorney is requesting an early release for him and to be treated as a first offender. First offender status would allow Kittrell to have his record cleared after completion of his sentence.
The prosecution opposes both requests.
The judge will rule on the requests once Kittrell himself appears in court.
As much as I feel for the kid he shouldn’t be released until he at least completes any psychological counseling that the court ordered.
Apopka Man Accused Of Having Sex With MySpace Girl, 12:
28-year-old Luis Quinones of Orange County, Florida was arrested this week for having sex with a 12-year-old girl that he met over MySpace.
Again it’s time to remind parents that the minimum age for MySpace is 14.
Anyway, Quinones admitted to having consensual sex with the 12-year-old and is using the ‘she said she was 19’ defense. There is a huge difference between a 19-year-old girl and a 12-year-old girl. If you can’t tell the two apart maybe you shouldn’t be trying to breed in the first place.
The girl admits telling Quinones that she was 19 and that they had sex over 20 times and even skipped school to have sex with him.
I would lay odds that at least somewhere along the way he found out she was 12 and didn’t care. And again the ‘she said she was…’ excuse hasn’t worked in the history of age of consent.
Let’s not forget to ask where was this girl’s parent(s)? But still the ultimate responsibility lies with Quinones.
Arraignment scheduled in LA in MySpace suicide case:
Lori Drew is scheduled to be arraigned in a Los Angeles federal court on June 16th.
Drew was indicted on conspiracy and basically hacking charges as it relates to the harassment induced suicide of 16-year-old Megan Meier
SC teen indicted on 3 federal charges in bomb plot:
Ryan Schallenberger has been indicted on three federal charges. However the most severe charge of possessing a weapon of mass destruction has been dropped. That charge could have kept Schallenberger in jail for life. The other 3 charges could keep him in jail for 40 years.
The federal grand jury indicted Schallenberger for receiving and attempting to receive an explosive, which carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison; attempting to damage and destroy real property by explosive, which carries five to 20 years in prison; and possessing an unregistered destructive device, which carries a maximum sentence of 10 years behind bars.
Schallenberger had ammonium nitrate delivered to his house in an alleged plot to attack Chesterfield High School in South Carolina.
Man pleads guilty to using Facebook to entice minors:
I originally posted about Michael Macalindong here.
Back in February of 2007 Macalindong was arrested for using Facebook to try to entice a 15-year-old boy to his home for sex. It’s actually way more complicated than that so go read my original post for all the disturbing details.
Yesterday he pleaded guilty to federal child pornography charges.
No word on sentencing yet.
Sex Predator Uses MySpace to Lure Teens:
33-year-old Gregory Scott Serrano of Monrovia, California has been indicted for using MySpace to prey on underage girls. He’s accused of having sex or taking explicit photos of at least 10 victims. Authorities believe that there may be even more victims.
He’s been charged with…
…production of child pornography, using the Internet to entice minors to produce child pornography and to meet for sex, receipt of child pornography, possession of child pornography and attempted destruction of evidence.
Serrano was investigated when a 15-year-old victim came forward. It’s alleged that Serrano posed as a 19-year-old on MySpace to lure his victims.
And the cherry on this scumbag sundae?
After his March 12 arrest, Serrano allegedly contacted a family member and asked the relative to retrieve and hide a compact disc stashed inside a rollerblade in Serrano’s basement.
The FBI recovered the disc, who allegedly contained logs of e-mail conversations between Serrano and his victims, as well as child pornography depicting them
I’m sure I’ll still get comments telling me what a great guy he is and how he was framed.
Serrano could get life behind bars.
NEW YORK (AP) — Several leading child welfare groups Tuesday urged an overhaul of federal laws dealing with transracial adoption, arguing that black children in foster care are ill-served by a “colorblind” approach meant to encourage their adoption by white families.
Yet another proposed roadblock to make adoption more difficult in this country. It’s legislation like this that makes US citizens adopt from other countries rather than kids from this one.
A 15-year-old kid gets it absolutely right…
His youngest son, Eric Jones, 15, said the family’s makeup sometimes complicates his life, but he’s convinced that transracial adoption can succeed.
“White or black doesn’t matter,” he said. “What counts is whether the parents are ready to take responsibility.”
Let parents be parents.
Ok Linuxheads, I need your help. I have an old Toshiba Portege 7100 that I think is from 1999. It has a 500mhz processor and 99MB of RAM. I need a micro mini Linux distro that will run on it. I’ve tried the following and only one of them worked but I’m not going to tell you which one yet.
The distros I’ve already tried are Puppy Linux, Mepis Antix, Xubuntu, and Fluxbuntu.
I challenge you to find me a Linux distro to work on this abomination of a laptop.
Judge again rules against use of jailhouse conversations in Odgren case:
On Friday a judge ruled once again that the taped jailhouse conversations of John Odgren. Previously prosecutors asked for all the tapes but this time they narrowed their request to 10 to 15 hours of tape.
Prosecutors want the tapes to show that Odgren doesn’t really have Aspergers which is the key to his defense.
