The article I linked to is a 5-page piece of self-serving dreck from the allegedly vaunted Village Voice. In it, they question a statistic that says 100,000-300,000 children are being trafficked in the US every day. Specifically, they call out celebrity couple Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher because of their Demi and Ashton Foundation (DNA) and their Real Men Don’t Buy Girls campaign.
What the Village Voice says is that number is more like 800 because that’s the number of arrests of child prostitutes they came up with in only 37 cities.
But come on. Who are they trying to fool? The only reason that the Village Voice is going after the child trafficking numbers is that Village Voice Media is the parent company of Backpage.com where scores of children are being trafficked. VVM considers this a first amendment issue basically saying that anyone who says they should get rid of the prostitution ads on their sites are basically engaging in censorship. That’s not very impartial reporting if you ask me.
As I’ve said before, Village Voice Media is only concerned about the part of the first amendment that protects them and not the rights of the children and women that are trafficked on the pages of their sites.
Then again what do I know? I’m just a twit-wit.
