As I’ve said before one of the more popular searches that this site gets is “Do people from Omegle get arrested?” Once again I’m here to say yes and once again Omegle is the one turning people in. For those of you who may be unfamiliar with Omegle, it’s a webcam chat site that connects you to random people using the site. Its motto is “Talk to strangers”. It’s the more pervy successor to Chatroulette.
Police in Palm Beach County, Florida say that 26-year-old Raphael John Connor, formerly of Lake Park, shared images on Omegle of a 3-year-old girl being raped. To Omegle’s credit, they reported the incident to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC).
During the investigation, it was discovered that the inside of the house that the rape took place in looked a lot like the inside of Connor’s home and that the man in the video had a lot of physical similarities to Connor. Subsequently, Connor was charged with child molestation charges as well. Currently, he is being held on $725,000 bail.
So if you’re thinking about trading child porn or preying on underage kids on Omegle you may want to think twice because they are watching and apparently have no trouble calling the cops. However, I would still not allow any kids on there unsupervised if I was still a parent to teens.
