Apparently the jury did buy Kenny Bartley’s line of crap at his trial because they found him not guilty of first-degree murder in the 2005 shooting death of Campbell County High assistant principal Ken Bruce. He was found guilty on the lesser charge of reckless homicide than was released on $7500 bond. I guess $7500 is how much Ken Bruce’s life was worth in the eyes of the court.
He was also found not guilty on charges of attempted first-degree murder for the shootings of Principal Gary Seale and Vice Principal Jim Pierce.
I thought that a new trial would have gotten him more time than his original 46 year plea. Obviously I thought wrong.
Cherish every day that you’re out Kenny for two reasons. The first is that Ken Bruce doesn’t have any of those days left because you were a selfish drug addict. The second reason is you’ll be back soon enough. Your type always is.
In Naperville, Illinois, Charles Clark posted an ad on craigslist looking for a roommate in mid to late January. Police say that the ad was responded to by 21-year-old Grant Van Muren. The pair signed a lease agreement and Muren moved in.
Eight hours later Muren allegedly strangled Clark to death, took his money and tried to burn down the house to cover up the crime scene. What struck me about this story was the way Muren tried to burn the house down.
Police say that Muren opened up the gas on the oven and placed their lease agreement in a toaster before fleeing. If that sounds familiar because it was what Matt Damon did in one of the Jason Bourne movies. Muren obviously doesn’t watch Mythbusters or else he would have known that particular way of causing an explosion was busted. It hasn’t stopped the police from charging him with arson in addition to Clark’s murder.
If you’re looking for a roommate I’d recommend using something that’s more reliable than craigslist. Granted there are millions of transactions that take place on craigslist every day without incident you have to keep the plane crash correlation in mind. What I mean by that is we always hear about the planes crashing but never hear about the number of planes that deliver their passengers safely every day. However if one airline had as many crashes as craigslist has had killings that airline wouldn’t be in business anymore.
UPDATE 5/5/2014:Muren is now trying to claim self defense. He says that the victim tried to gouge his eyes out and that’s why he killed him. I’m sure the robbery and the attempt at burning down the house was just coincidental.
Jeffrey Miller Wallace, 36, and Alphalena Jo Littlejohn, 30, were arrested recently for smoking meth in the parking lot of a Spartanburg, South Carolina Hospital. Police also say that the pair were there over night smoking meth while their kids, ages 6 and 1, were in the car not properly dressed for the weather. I live in the Carolinas and while we haven’t had the bitter cold weather that has been happening in the North, overnight lows have been in the 30s. If not properly dressed and kept in the car like that overnight children that age can succumb to exposure.
Allegedly the pair of tweakers have admitted to smoking meth but claim they didn’t smoke it in the car with the kids. I guess that makes it ok then. Also there was no food in the car but there was an open container of booze. I wonder if that was for the kids since mommy and daddy had their delicious meth to smoke.
I wonder if they sold their kids clothes on the way to their dealer.
They may have been using the hospital parking lot since DSS was already on to them.
Is it just me or does daddy methtard look like Squidward? I didn’t know they had tweakers in Bikini Bottom.
It seems like 47-year-old Paul Andrew Vangelder of Port Charlotte, Florida, was feeling a little lonesome on Valentine’s day so he did what any perv would do, he looked for companionship on craigslist. And to what should his wandering eyes doth appear but an ad for parents who were willing to turn out their kids. Not just any kids though but two special needs children, one a 3-year-old boy and the other a 9-year-old girl. Vangelder was said to have described what he wanted to do to the children in great detail to the parents and then set off to North Port, Florida, to meet them.
Wen Vangelder arrived at the home he was greeted by the officers of the North Port police. This was all a sting to catch craigslist creepers. You know, for the grant money and not to put actual criminals in jail or anything, as some would have you believe. Except that this was allegedly found on him…
Officers found a bi-pod camera stand and a digital camera with an SD memory card inside of it in Vangelder’s silver Nissan truck.
While searching the SD card, officers found a pornographic video of four young boys committing sexual acts on each other.
So it sounds like this may not be his first rodeo but I’m sure we’ll hear about he was an innocent man entrapped by the greedy police.
Look, this is a real thing. There are actually parents out there who will turn their kids out on craigslist. This is no urban legend. In my opinion any use of craigslist, since they can’t be bothered to monitor their own site, is helping support the continued violation of children by the craigslist creepers.
Ah, those picture captions just keep getting longer don’t they?
Anyway triple convicted child killer Damien Echols had his hype machine out at the University of New Hampshire recently for an anti-death penalty rally. Let’s see how the local media handled it…
Following the small rally, hundreds of students gathered in the Memorial Union Building to hear from Damien Echols, one of the infamous “West Memphis Three” wrongfully convicted of the murder of three 8-year-old boys in Arkansas in 1993.
Not even close. And they continue their dumbfuckery. Yes, I know that’s not a real word.
Echols spent 18 years and 76 days in prison, most of that time on death row, before being released in 2011 under an unusual plea deal that essentially lets him and the other two men convicted maintain their innocence while pleading guilty.
Except they weren’t and it doesn’t. Sigh. Let’s go through this again people.
The Alford Plea that allowed them to walk free states that the defendants admit that sufficient evidence exists with which the prosecution could likely convince a judge or jury to find the defendant guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Sounds like a guilty plea to me.
Echols and his wife of about 15 years, Lorri Davis, told the story of his arrest and imprisonment, of the brutal prison conditions, beatings, isolation and frustration at the injustices in the criminal justice system.
Christ, what a pair of drama queens. The so-called brutal prison conditions and beatings have never been proven and apparently he liked the isolation because it gives him an excuse to wear his sunglasses indoors at all times.
They talked of the failures on the parts of police and prosecutors to introduce all of the evidence or to admit when they were wrong.
I’ve been noticing that they’re playing it cool when it comes to mentioning the so-called DNA evidence that they think points to another man. Afraid of a lawsuit are we?
Davis said she felt compelled to help Echols after seeing an HBO documentary about his case made in 1996. Two years later she moved from New York City to Arkansas.
Which is not in the least bit crazy.
They ended up gaining the support of some big names, including actor Johnny Depp, musician Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam and famed filmmakers Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh.
Just because you’re a celebrity doesn’t mean you’re smart.
In the end, Echols had a team of about 14 lawyers on the case, in addition to investigators and forensic science experts and the Arkansas Supreme Court ruled that a new trial should be held, leading to the plea agreement which precludes Echols from ever seeking compensation from the state for his wrongful conviction.
That’s just flat out wrong. A new trial was never ordered. It was a hearing to see if the ‘DNA evidence’ would grant them a new trial. They pleaded guilty before the hearing could take place.
Echols said he completely lost faith in the justice system early on, but he never lost faith in people and shares his story in the hope of empowering others to create change.
Faith in people or suckers?
When I first read this article I was going to give them a pass because I thought it was the UNH student paper. Then I discovered that it’s Manchester’s newspaper. Wow, I guess research is a thing not done at newspapers anymore.
Amateur Professor Trench gives this article a big ol’ F. Class dismissed.
38-year-old David Courson of Monticello, Florida, has been charged with manslaughter in the January death of his 6-year-old daughter Becca. Police allege that Courson was letting a 13-year-old drive his truck when the accident happened. They say that Courson was drunk and liquor, weed and what sounds like to me were homemade redneck fireworks, i.e., a bomb.
And oh yeah the 13-year-old was not his daughter but he’s been arrested for allegedly having sex with her.
With Courson’s wife listening in court on Monday, the prosecutor read some of those messages including one from Courson to the girl about his wife.
“I think she’s jealous of you, you’re everything she is not…pretty, sexy and smart,” said the message.
There was also this exchange between Courson and the girl about their sexual encounter and what Courson’s wife would think about it.
“If she knew what had happened in her bed she would need counseling,” said Courson. “It was on her side of it too,” the girl replied. “Ha, ha, ha all she would need is sound effects,” Courson replied.
So drunk redneck letting his 13-year-old squeeze drive the truck that killed his daughter. Did I forget anything? Oh yeah. His wife may or may not be standing by her man.
Following his arrest last month his wife told us she was supporting her husband.
After court, we asked her if she still was and she referred us to David’s lawyer.
If this story was any more classy I’d have to rent a tux.
This story makes me want to break out the old chestnut of you need a license to own a dog but any idiot can have a kid.
Today Kenny Bartley testified in his own defense in his retrial for the school shooting death of Campbell County High assistant principal Ken Bruce in 2005. Bartley also shot and wounded Principal Gary Seale and Assistant Principal Jim Pierce. Bartley was 14 at the time of the shooting and pleaded guilty and agreed to a plea that got him 45 years in prison. Last year a new trial was ordered.
In Bartley’s defense he claimed something that seemed contradictory to me. Please tell me if you agree or disagree. In his testimony Bartley claims that on the day of the shooting he snorted Valium and Xanax. Then when he was called into the office about possibly having a gun he said he panicked when he fired the gun. So which is it? Was he high on two different meds that are designed to prevent panic or did he panic because he was on Xanax like he claims? Seriously is it just me or should this testimony be considered insulting not only to the jury but to common sense? Yeah, I know. The two don’t always go hand in hand.
28-year-old Daniel Vincent Colarusso is accused of allegedly raping a 4-year-old girl from Pasco County, Florida. He advertised his services as a nanny on craigslist and a Pasco County woman responded leaving her 4-year-old daughter in his care while she worked. Instead of caring for the girl police say that Colarusso repeatedly raped the girl.
Police say that he also recorded himself raping the girl on his phone. His former landlady is said to have found the SD card where the images were contained.
I realize how hard it can be for single parents to find child care however I implore you to stop looking on craigslist for it. With the low threshold of entry and the perceived notion of anonymity on craigslist it’s just crawling with predators in all sections.
If you won’t listen to me will you listen to the police?
“Finding a babysitter on Craigslist is a bad idea,” Sheriff Nocco said.
When I last talked about Miranda Barbour and her satanic serial killer claims I said she might actually believe what she’s claiming. I thought that she might be mentally ill. After having read the linked article with her Dad’s interview I’ve done a complete 180 on that position. Sonny Dean says his daughter is a liar and a manipulator because of her heroin addiction which makes a lot of sense now. If you’ve ever lived or are close to a substance abuser you know the depths of lying and manipulation they will go to in order to get their fix and how they would sacrifice friend or family alike if it meant just one more high.
Mr. Dean also said that he believes she was involved in a killing in Alaska but not the 22+ victims she’s claiming. Surprisingly he also said that if his daughter got the death penalty not only would he go to the execution but would hold the hand of Troy LaFerrara’s widow at the execution. While I’m not celebrating the fact that Mr. Dean’s daughter killed another man this is a change of pace of the usual blood is thicker than water thinking we see with most parents.
So in conclusion if she’s so fond of needles the state of Pennsylvania should give her one.
In 2011 a then 17-year-old Tyler Hadley bludgeoned his parents, Mary Jo Hadley, 47, Blake Hadley, 54, to death with a hammer in their Port St. Lucie, Florida, home. Right after their murders Hadley went to Facebook and invited all his friends over for a party. The party took place while his parents battered bodies were still in their bedroom. Hadley even showed the bodies to one of his friends.
This past week Hadley pleaded no contest to first degree murder charges. I’m not that big a fan of the no contest plea. It means that the defendant does not admit any guilt but admits that the prosecution has enough evidence to convict them. Just another way for scumbags like Hadley to avoid taking any responsibility for their actions. The only good thing about it is that they’re sentenced like they had pleaded guilty.
Sentencing will begin in March. Hadley was charged as an adult and could receive life without parole. I wish this little twerp could face the death penalty since it’s been reported that he’s become somewhat of a prison celebrity. Hadley will probably be one of those jackasses who thrives in prison.
