This past Tuesday night 18-year-old Jawad Ali Razai was shot and killed in Durham, North Carolina, after responding to a craigslist ad for a cell phone for sale. Instead, police say, that 18-year-old Jarrion Hood shot and killed Razai during an attempt to rob him. Somehow Hood was shot as well but unfortunately survived. Hood also has been previously charged with kidnapping and assault with intent to kill.
What can I say that I haven’t already said in the past 8 years since I’ve been tracking craigslist crimes? It’s not a safe way to do any kind of business no matter what side of the transaction your on, what time of day the transaction takes place or even how public the meeting place is. If someone is determined enough to try to take what you have nothing will stop them from getting it, including a possible murder charge.
UPDATE 8/31/2017: Last week a mistrial was declared in Hood’s trial. It was not because of any jury deadlock, but because Hood’s attorney’s pregnancy made her concerned about being able to provide effective counsel.
22-year-old William Bentley of Madison Township, Ohio, has been arrested for allegedly headbutting his 7-week-old infant son, repeatedly. Why? The usual I’m afraid. His son would not stop crying.
Think about that for a moment. Think about that level of violence. His rage was so much over his own son’s crying that he repeatedly slammed his own skull into the face of a helpless infant.
The infant has survived and is expected to recover but does have extensive facial injuries.
Bentley lived in a trailer park. I’ve poked fun at people who live in trailer park’s on this site but it seems that it is unwarranted as his neighbors were not only outraged over what had happened they know better than he did.
“It makes me so mad. I’m shaking. I’m shaking really bad,” Kristen Stevens said. “I don’t know what would bring someone to do that to a small child. If it’s crying, you coddle it. You try and sooth it. You don’t hurt it.”
“That’s what all kids do at that age, you know, they go to the bathroom, they eat, they cry. They want attention,” Raymond Willis said. “Anytime we hear about anything like that happening, especially to a 7-week-old, I mean, that guy should be put in jail for quite a while.”
“If you’re going to have kids, you need to treat them with respect. If you’re going to lie down and have kids, you need to make sure you take care of them,” Nicki Patterson said.
So why didn’t this troglodyte get it and what can we do as a society to see that behavior like this doesn’t continue?
I was at my local Walgreen’s not too long ago and I happened to notice that they had some vaping stuff behind the counter. The thing that caught my eye is that they were selling pre-filled clearomizers/tanks behind the counter. I thought that was interesting concept so I picked up the FIN Advanced Vaping V-Tank. For about $12 I was able to get a two pack of clearomizers that each come with 2.4ml of juice per tank with a nicotine strength of 1.6%/16mg.
Price-wise I can get 30ml of juice from my vape store for that amount however you are getting the tank with it so it kind of evens out. I chose the grape flavor which was ok, reminded me of Sweet Tarts. Decent throat hit if that’s your sort of thing. However the one discouraging thing from the FIN tanks is that on every third or fourth hit I would get this really stale tasting hit. Tried both tanks from the two-pack on both my MVP and eGo batteries and got the same resulting stale hits.
The main attraction for me about the FIN clearomizers is that they’re available at places like Walgreen’s and Wal-Mart that are open 24 hours a day. So much like the Haus tank its major attraction is convenience if you happen to find yourself nowhere near a vape store and in need of juice. They are manufactured in the USA as well.
In Estonia guns can be legally purchased but each gun has to be registered. A little more restrictive than the US but not by much and very liberal by European standards.
So much like I did in my post about the Russian school shooting earlier this year and in my post about Tommy Guns I have to say that it’s not access to guns that are to blame for school shootings in the US but the sense of entitlement that too many parents are instilling into their kids. And I don’t even own a gun nor do I plan to.
Normally I like to keep my vaping business local here in North Carolina. I want to support the local vaping businesses, except this one but I digress. However I was recently given a nice e-juice discount by the fine folks at 7’s Electronic Cigarettes. I made sure that they are from the US as it’s best to make sure you’re not getting juice made from a questionable area.
Now this is not going to be an e-juice review per se because taste in e-juices are subjective. This is going to be more of a review of my experience with 7’s.
First the juice itself. I ordered 15ml of 6mg Banana flavored juice. Their retail price is $12.49. I may have passed on this because of the price since I’m currently between jobs so the discount did help a lot. The juice came in a dark blue glass bottle with the eye dropper. I’m not a fan of this kind of packaging for juice but like I said taste is subjective and I can easily put the juice in any number of clear plastic squeeze bottle I have. While I would have preferred a more bolder taste the banana e-juice was subtly sweet and satisfying. I can’t comment on throat hit because I am asthmatic and I prefer no throat hit which I was ablle to attain with the 6mg e-juice.
The best part about 7’s is their customer service. I received my e-juice in the mail in roughly the same amount of time it takes me to get my e-juice from local vendors when I order online. Not only did they send me an e-mail when my item shipped but they sent an e-mail every day letting me know how much longer my package would be. Their website is also top-notch. It’s professional looking and easy to order on it. Too many vendors have websites that look like they’re from 1998 Geocities.
So 7’s/my7s.com gets a big thumbs up and a hearty recommendation from me.
19-year-old Afrikka Hardy is believed to have been the victim of alleged serial killer Darren Vann of Gary, Indiana. She was working as a prostitute out of nearby Chicago and was advertised on Backpage. However just because she was a prostitute doesn’t mean she deserved to be strangled to death by a serial sex offender who has allegedly confessed to killing at least 7 victims. She had family and loved ones who cared about her.
This is more blood splashed on the pages of Backpage since they facilitated the murder in my opinion but they’re not going to stop unless they’re forced to stop. Congress needs to get off its ass and update the archaic Communications Decency Act before there are more Afrikka Hardy’s. Backpage isn’t going to stop on its own while there is blood money to be made.
UPDATE 5/31/2016: Vann’s trial, which had been scheduled for July 25th, has been rescheduled for an unknown date. A hearing for the new trial date is set for August 19th. The defense requested the rescheduling stating they need more time to prepare.
UPDATE 5/3/2018:Vann has pleaded guilty to killing Afrikka Hardy and six other women. He is expected to be sentenced to life without parole later this month.
At least they have a blonde from the British Isles playing Constantine this time. Don’t get me wrong, I actually liked the Keanu Reeves movie but they should have called it anything but Constantine. It seems like they’re also sticking closer to the comic book than the movie as well showing John Constantine using others for his own personal gain and the infamous Newcastle incident.
I’ll keep watching but so far, yes I know it’s only one episode, they really didn’t make me have to tune into the next episode like Arrow and Gotham do. However as a comic book property it’s not a bad show.
I went to Google News, like I often do, to search for the specific details of a crime that’s been in the news. I enter one of the victims’ names as my search query and the first result that pops up goes to some obnoxiously pink gossip site. This isn’t the first time it’s happened either. When a major crime story breaks this is usually the first site that shows up in my e-mail notifications. So do they have some kind of agreement with Google or are they gaming the system? Sadly I think it’s because this is where more people are going for ‘news’.
Unfortunately, like a lot of Google products, no competitor is offering a similar service.
