In order to get out of debt one must know the different ways of resolving it.
I am sad that i have to post that the bodies of Bud and June Runion have been found. The couple from Marietta, Georgia went missing after going to look at a Ford Mustang that was advertised on craigslist. Unfortunately there was no Mustang which seems more like a ploy to commit robbery. The suspect in the Runnions’ disappearance and death, 28-year-old Jay Towns, has been apprehended. The Runions’ vehicle was found submerged and their bodies were found nearby but not underwater.
Here’s something that I forgot to mention in my last post. I don’t post about every craigslist scam anymore. There are so many that it would be too time consuming for me to post every one. However with the last few months I have heard of a scam where scammers are posting ads on classifieds sites like craigslist advertising either high dollar value or classic cars. In too many cases the cars don’t exist and are just bait to fleece people out of their money. Unfortunately in this case the cost was much greater.
My heart breaks for the Runion family and my prayers and condolences go out to them.
UPDATE 2/2/2015: The autopsies showed that the Runions were both shot in the head.
UPDATE 6/23/2015: Prosecutors are saying that they will seek the death penalty against Towns.
UPDATE 5/3/2017: Back in mid-April, Towns entered a plea of not guilty.
Authoirties in Georgia are currently searching for Bud and June Runion of Marietta, Georgia. The couple have been missing since Thursday after leaving to go look at a classic Mustang that was advertised on craigslist in McRae, Georgia.
The Runions’ family have set up a Facebook page in hopes of getting information out to help find the couple.
Bud Runion 5’9 was last seen wearing a corduroy collared shirt and a blue canvas jacket.
June Runion 5’6 was last seen wearing a pair of tan or beige slacks and a plaid shirt.
Anyone with information is asked to call 911 or The Cobb County Police Department.
According to Google the Cobb County Police Department phone number is (770) 499-3900.
My thoughts and prayers go out to the friends and family of the Runions and I pray that they are returned safely,
UPDATE 1/25/2015: Police have named a suspect in 28-year-old Ronnie “Jay” Adrian Towns. He is currently at large and believed to be the last person the Runions talked to on the phone and has allegedly given false information to investigators.
Anyone with information about the couple’s whereabouts is asked to call Cobb County Police at 770-499-3900.
Indiana State Sen. Brandt Hershman recently introduced a bill to the Indiana legislature that would make a school shooting where victims are killed an aggravating factor that would allow prosecutors to seek the death penalty. Sen. Hershman says he was influenced by the shooting of Andrew Boldt by Cody Cousins at Purdue University in 2014. After pleading guilty and showing no remorse Cousins was only sentenced to 65 years. Sen. Hershman believes this would be a deterrent to would be school shooters.
“By including school shootings on the list of qualifying factors for the death, I hope it will deter future tragedies and allow for the most deplorable criminals to receive punishment to the fullest extent of the law,”
While I admire Sen. Hershman’s stance on the matter and as much as I am a firm believer in the death penalty, ultimately this will not deter school shooters if history is any indicator. First off this would not apply to suspect’s who are minors as the U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that even minors who have been charged as adults can not be executed. Secondly, most adult school shooters are of the mindset that they will not live to be apprehended. Cho Seung-Hui, Stephen Kazmierczak, and Charles Carl Roberts IV, all committed suicide before they could be taken in. Even Cody Cousins killed himself in prison. None of these men were rational individuals so trying to deal with them on a rational basis would not have deterred them from their respective atrocities.
I think a better solution to deterring school shootings is making mental healthcare in our society less stigmatized and more readily available but even that’s not a perfect solution.
This week the Florida Supreme Court upheld the death sentence for David Sparre. Sparre was convicted in the brutal 2010 stabbing death of 21-year-old Tiara Pool. Sparre had met his victim through the casual encounters section of craigslist in Jacksonville, Florida. The pair had sex before Sparre stabbed her almost 90 times. Sparre was convicted and then sentenced to death for Tiara’s murder. After his sentencing Sparre sent a letter to his ex-girlfriend bragging about how he enjoyed killing Tiara. So it came as a surprise to me that an appeal of his death sentence was even being entertained.
During his trial and penalty phase Sparre instructed his attorney, Chief Assistant Public Defender Refik Eler, to not present any evidence in his defense. Eler, who said Sparre was guilty of second-degree murder but didn’t deserve the death penalty, planned to introduce evidence he was mentally unbalanced and abused drugs and alcohol since he was 11.
But Sparre reiterated his instructions to Circuit Judge Elizabeth Senterfitt, who ruled that Eler couldn’t present the evidence against his wishes.
On appeal Tallahassee Public Defender Nada Carey argued that Senterfitt abused her discretion by not considering all the evidence that would have kept Sparre off Death Row. She said it didn’t matter that Sparre didn’t want it brought up.
In Thursday’s unanimous Supreme Court ruling the justices said that in cases where a death-penalty defendant declined to offer a defense, the judge was required to order a comprehensive pre-sentence investigation into the that defendant’s background. That was done in Sparre’s case, with the investigation addressing his physical and mental health.
So that brings Sparre one step closer to the needle which will be infinitely more merciful than the death of Tiara Pool, a mother of one who still had her whole life in front of her. It’s too bad they won’t be able to lunge the needle into him 90 times. Hell, by the time his execution date would have rolled around I’m the country will have lost its nerve on killing monsters like Sparre.
A letter published in the New England Journal of Medicine has tried linking e-cigs and vaping to dangerous levels of formaldehyde and much like the Japanese study before it, it exaggerates the actual danger.
Once again one might be inclined to read just the headline that states ‘E-Cigarettes Can Churn Out High Levels Of Formaldehyde’, read no further and think that’s all there is to the story. Once again however the true details are buried deep within the article.
From the ninth and tenth paragraphs in the article…
“We simulated vaping by drawing the vapor — the aerosol — into a syringe, sort of simulating the lungs,” Peyton says. That enabled the researchers to conduct a detailed chemical analysis of the vapor. They found something unexpected when the devices were dialed up to their highest settings.
“To our surprise, we found masked formaldehyde in the liquid droplet particles in the aerosol,” Peyton says.
That’s like saying “when we turned up the volume on a TV to the highest level we found evidence of hearing damage”. No one cranks it up to the highest setting. Not only that but what brand of e-cigs or e-juice did they test? What goes for one brand does not mean it happens for all brands across the board.
Hell, I may be biased since vaping has helped me quit smoking after 30 years but I just can’t understand why so many people are trying to discredit a method that has helped so many people get off cigarettes where most other methods have failed.
A 2-year-old girl from Wichita, Kansas, recently died after her mother claimed that the girl hit her head on a playground slide. You know the story by now though, after the girl was examined at the hospital her injuries were not consistent of that type of injury plus there were previous brain bleeds according to investigators.
Details are unclear how police came to arrest the woman’s boyfriend, 33-year-old Sly Maples, for the girls death. However reports say that the pair were only dating for 3 months and the woman and her daughter just recently moved in with Maples. So for as long as 3 months Maples may have been allegedly violently abusing this poor girl for Hell only know what reason. I’m not saying the girl’s mother intentionally lied, she may have just been relaying what Maples told her since she wasn’t at the scene at the time of her daughter’s final injuries.
Maples does have a previous history of violence as an ex of his filed a restraining order against him accusing him of choking her until she passed out.
First off to the single mothers out there be very selective on who you decide to enter a relationship with. It’s not wrong to do a background check on them since it means protecting your children. Secondly I have to once again address all the abusing scumbags out there who think they’re smarter than doctors and police. You’re not. You can try to tell them some bullshit story about how they ‘fell’ out of bed but you will be found out and you will go to prison for a long time. So how about not being an abusive assclown instead?
Also here is a good follow-up article on how to recognize the signs of continuing child abuse.
Thanks to Denise for the tip.
Recently it was announced that Marvel Comics will be rebooting their fictional universe with the upcoming Secret Wars storyline much like DC Comics did in 2011 with Flashpoint and the New 52,
At first, much like I did in 2011, I was worried that some great stories would become non-canon like the death of Gwen Stacy or Planet/World War Hulk. Then I realized that just because those stories may be retconned out of existence that doesn’t erase them from our memories. I mean why do we as comic readers worry so much about canon? Why can’t we just enjoy good stories without having to worry about how they all fit in the grander universe and timeline?
I think as comic fans we need to unbunch our underoos every time publishers try something new.
Except for One More Day. We were totally entitled to be pissed off at that steaming turd.
31-year-old Kyle B. Rains of Park City, Kansas, was sentenced to almost 14 years in prison for distributing child porn on the webcam chat site Omegle. (Click here to catch up on what Omegle is.) Rains was streaming child porn videos on Omegle that contained scenes of a toddler being raped. He would then find young biys to target on Omegle.
Once again I have to bring up that one of the more popular searches to find this site is “Will I be arrested from Omegle?” or many one of its variants. That answer continues to be yes as once again the National Center For Missing and Exploited children (NCMEC) were contacted by Omegle when they discovered Rains’ child porn.
What makes me even more mad about this story is that there were young boys on Omegle for him to target. If you allow your kids to have a webcam in their room unattended you’re leaving an unguarded open window to your kids for every sick predator on the internet to use.
21-year-old Breanna J. Arnold and 30-year-old Zachary S. Barnes of Bluffton, Indiana, have both been arrested in the death of Arnold’s 3-year-old son, Owen Collins. The couple and an unnamed teen were using drugs when they discovered that Owen was dead in his bedroom. Rather than call police or an ambulance, you know, the right thing to do, Barnes and the teen allegedly put Owen’s body in a cardboard box, took his body to a wooded area and set the box on fire after dousing it with nail polish remover. In the meantime someone called police asking to do a welfare check on the residence.
Very few things will bring a community together like a missing child. Strangers will drop whatever they’re doing to help in the search for a missing child. What a missing child search also does is bring in multiple law enforcement departments to help investigate. In this case it was the Marion police department that found the woman who gave Barnes and the teen a ride into the woods and she of course must have told them about the box and she also led them to Owen’s body. Investigators allegedly got admissions of guilt from the teen and Barnes. The teen has been arrested as well.
Now the drug they were using has not been identified but according to some reports meth making materials were found in the home. While the cause of Owen’s death has not yet been determined Barnes allegedly admitted to police that they would put ‘dope’ in the kids’ bottles and ‘watch them have fun’. Are you for real? Is this what meth does to your mind that you think it’s funny to give your kids a drug that has been a blight in most poor rural areas? Not to mention what makes you think that your tweaker ass is smarter than multiple law enforcement agencies. Did you think that reporting Owen missing was somehow going to absolve you of your actions?
I really need to start working on that formula for meth that sterilizes tweakers.
In case you have no common sense here are the dangers of having kids in a meth lab.
Thanks to Brigette for the tip.
UPDATE 5/12/2015: It was revealed recently that according to the autopsy Owen died from blunt force trauma to the head and no drugs were found in his system. No word yet on what caused his fatal injuries.
UPDATE 6/17/2015: Barnes has pleaded guilty to the murder of Owen Collins. Under the term of the plea deal he’ll more than likely be sentenced to 50 years and have to serve at least 75% of that sentence before being possibly eligible for parole.
UPDATE 7/6/2015: The teen that’s allegedly involved with this atrocity has been charged as an adult. His name is Zachary Barker.
UPDATE 8/9/2015: Zachary Barnes was sentenced to 50 years in the death of Owen Collins.
UPDATE 9/2/2015: 17-year-old Zachary Barker has pleaded guilty to abuse of a corpse and meth dealing,
UPDATE 1/19/2017: After pleading guilty to preparing meth in a home occupied by children, Breanna Arnold was sentenced to 20 years behind bars.
