Police in Orlando, Florida believe that Michael Gordon Luck, of Remington, Indiana, allegedly bought two underage girls. ages 15 and 16, off of Backpage while on vacation. The girls were said to have placed ads on Backpage with the help of a 19-year-old friend. Luck is said to have set them up in his condo with their own room and key and may have even supplied them with drugs.
Luck was caught because one of the girls was a runaway. Luck was initially approached by police at a mall where he was with both girls. Luck is said to have given an answer worthy of the ‘To Catch a Predator’ predators…
On April 14, Luck initially told deputies that he’d met the girls at a Publix supermarket and wanted to help them and keep them off the streets, according to the affidavit, but he later changed his account, saying he met them online.
Then he changed his story to another familiar tune that we’ve heard before…
Luck said he’d had sex with the girls but believed they were 19 and 20 years old, according to the affidavit.
Luck is facing some serious jail time since he’s been charged with unlawful sexual activity with a minor, lewd and lascivious battery, and most importantly child sex trafficking. Because of that last charge Luck is facing a possible life sentence.
But lets not forget that these girls were able to deftly circumvent Backpage’s age policy and million dollar security safeguards just by having another person post for then probably using a ore-paid credit card.
This is the kind of person that law enforcement needs to pursue more vigorously, the john. As I’ve said before they need to make the risk much greater than the reward and I think a potential life sentence for johns who use child prostitutes may actually discourage this kind of crime.
