Police in Madison Heights, Michigan allege that 19-year-old Christopher Charles-Ruben King killed 59-year-old Fernando Gonzales on Halloween night. Gonzalez is said to have placed an ad on craigslist looking for a date. Sometime during the night King allegedly strangled Gonzales to death before setting fire to his house and stealing his car.
Again I don’t care what your sexual orientation is, but if you’re using craigslist for hook-ups or one night stands you’re inviting a world of trouble on yourself. Craigslist is rife with criminal activity and is no longer the friendly communal neighborhood site that it was roughly two decades ago.
This past week in Aiken, South Carolina, there was a craigslist killing of sort. 23-year-old Frank Frazier Jr. was shot and killed during an attempted craigslist robbery police say. A couple responded to a craigslist ad for a used car for sale but the ad was a fake used to set up a robbery. The twist here is that Frazier was one of the alleged robbers and was shot and killed by a victim who was said to be defending herself. So far no charges have been filed against the woman but police are still investigating.
Even though it was one of the supposed bad guys that was killed this time this is another example of a scam that has cost too many lives recently. As I’ve mentioned before what criminals will do is post ads on craigslist, and many other un-moderated classifieds, for a car that is either high-end and rare or has a too good to be true price. Once at the meeting place the respondents to the ad will usually be robbed. This is because the victims usually have cash in had in order to buy a used car. In recent history these kinds of scams have cost the lives of Taylor S. Clark of Illinois, Bud and June Runion of Georgia, and Robert Polk of St. Louis.
With such a low threshold of entry virtually nothing on craigslist should be trusted. When shopping for a car I would recommend instead using a website where people pay to place ads. Not only does that mean someone is usually serious about selling a car but if some kind of criminal activity does take place there should be a paper trail to the perpetrator.
34-year-old James Lee Thompson, of Fargo, North Dakota, is being charged with allegedly sending explicit pictures of himself to an 11-year-old girl from Massachusetts. Thompson is said to have sent the picture over instant messaging app Kik while police in Mass. were posing as the girl on her phone. Thompson allegedly followed up the picture with a message of “Can I c a naughty pic.”
When Thompson was approached by police about the picture he reportedly had the following to say about it…
“Thompson said he was not going to believe someone who said they were 11, because ‘what parent would allow an 11 year old on the internet,’ ” Fargo Police Detective Mark Voigtschild wrote in his report. “Thompson said there was no way this person was 11.”
I can honestly say that’s the first time I’ve ever heard that. While it’s a variation on the ‘she lied about her age’ trope I can’t believe he used the reverse of it, or that he would think that would work with police. In case you’re wondering I’ve posted at least one story where an 8-year-old girl was on Kik.
Thompson is no stranger to legal issues with children as he was previously convicted of child neglect charges in 2007. So Thompson has graduated from abusing his own kid to abusing other people’s. Allegedly.
Don’t forget folks that Kik is rampant with pedophiles and sex offenders and all your kids need to be on it is a smart phone or tablet and a wi-fi connection.
In case you’re wonder why I defaced the picture of Backpage CEO Carl Ferrer I used to do the same thing back in the day with Craigslist CEO Jim Buckmaster before they closed down their erotic services section. I thought it would be only fair to do the same thing to Ferrer.
Anyway we’re not here to talk about my childish attention seeking ways. We’re here to talk about Mr. Ferrer himself. It seems he was subpoenaed to appear before a Congressional committee that is investigating sex trafficking on the internet. He declined to appear. The committee is possibly seeking contempt charges against Ferrer.
Backpage’s legal mouthpiece Liz, McDougall, who has also gotten the Jim Buckmaster treatment in the past, compares the committee’s investigation to that of McCarthyism. Except, you know, for the fact that the people accused by McCarthy weren’t making tons of money over children and women being sold for sex.
Lastly for those of you who say Backpage is actually helping to combat the trafficking of children, and there are people who say that, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children seems to disagree…
“It seemed they were more interested in trying to publicly claim a partnership with (the center) on the issue rather than reducing the sale of children on their website,” said Yiota Souras, the senior vice president and general counsel for the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, who said the company refused to implement many of the center’s suggestions for stopping child sex trafficking.
She said in some cases, the company refused to take down ads even when family members pleaded for them to do so. She quoted an email to the company where a mother asked that her 16-year-old daughter’s ad be taken down. “For God’s sake, she’s only 16,” the mother pleaded.
Souras said there were more restrictions on ads to sell pets or motorcycles than there were to sell sexual acts.
Getting back to the matter at hand does anyone have any guesses where he went and will he come back to the US willingly or in hand cuffs? I hope it’s the hand cuffs so he can experience just a modicum of the humiliation that the girls and women trafficked on his website feel.
Further showing how far predators go in order to get what they want police say that Leveille posed as his sister ‘Nay Brown’ on Kik in order to request the pictures from his player. The real problem is that the victim had texted Leveille earlier to say she would not be at practice because she was sick enough to go to the hospital. So while this girl was in distress at more than likely the ER she gets a Kik message from someone asking her for nude pics. Not exactly what I would call sympathetic to say the least.
I’ve been saying for a while now that Kik is a collective for pedophiles and sex offenders but I wonder if Kik is actually doing anything to prevent this or are they taking the craigslist approach of only doing something when asked by police.
According to the criminal complaint, the Minneapolis Police Department got a tip about the ad on Saturday, Nov. 7, which said, “Homeless? Had a fight with parents or bf? Need a place to stay tonight?” The ad offered free rent, rides, food and “whatever u need” if “you help me,” according to the complaint.
Police responded to the ad posing as a 15-year-old girl where police say he asked the girl for phone sex. I guess his intentions weren’t just for helping someone off the street. Berg was arrested at a pre-determined meeting place.
As I said recently that this is an everyday occurrence on craigslist and they refuse to do anything about it. While this time there was no actual girl that doesn’t mean that victims are being preyed upon every day by people like this on craigslist. Do they all have to be 4-years-old for anyone to care?
“Southern Guy” told the boy sex is “fun” and asked the boy if he could sneak out of his house when his parents were asleep to meet him to have sex, according to the report. The complaint also says “Southern Guy” sent the 13-year-old a picture of an erect penis and a picture of a nude white man laying face down. “Southern Guy” reportedly asked the boy to send nude pictures, but the boy told him his camera wasn’t working.
Now that’s a smart kid. Unfortunately not every kid is that quick on their feet. As I’ve been documenting, Kik is lousy with pedophiles and sex offenders. If you’re not monitoring your children’s online habits someone else will and it won’t be someone with good intentions. More than likely it will be someone like this who wants your kids to sneak out of the house before they abduct and molest them if not worse. So isn’t worth a little inconvenience to your kids?
This is a story that seems to be making the outrage rounds as it should. 28-year-old Andrew Turley was arrested by Houston police for allegedly drugging a 4-year-old girl and prostituting her on craigslist. Turley is nothing short of a monster according to reports.
Turley had told the undercover cop “it may not fit in” but said the officer could “do whatever he wanted” to her, McShan said.
So by every right any person who reads this story should be outraged over what this thing was allegedly doing with a 4-year-old girl.
The thing is don’t act like this is something new. This has been going on through craigslist since as long as I’ve been keeping track. All you need to do is scroll through the craigslist archives of this site to see just a sampling of all the child predators who have been caught using craigslist. Hell, this victim isn’t even the youngest girl to be turned out on craigslist.
Pedophiles, pornographers and predators are abundant on craigslist. They have been for quite some time now. If you’re going to be outraged about what this scumbag did to a little girl you should also be outraged that craigslist does nothing to block these ads.
And to all the media types who are just finding this out for the first time where the hell have you been?
