Sandy Hook documents to remain secret

sandyhook

A Connecticut judge has ruled that documents seized in the Sandy Hook investigation that belonged to Adam Lanza will remain secret. The judge cited that if Lanza had survived and was tried for his crimes, the court would have ordered the private property returned to its rightful owner.

While it wasn’t mentioned in any article I saw, it could be safe to assume that another reason the documents were ordered to remain private were to prevent copycat shootings. Personally, I’m of the opinion that releasing these documents won’t cause copycats to increase. Conversely, with the release of such documents I believe it can go a long way in helping to identify future threats.

This recent ruling reminds me too much of the Columbine depositions that were ordered sealed for 20 years, along with the infamous Basement Tapes that were destroyed without any public notice.

Knowledge is power and the more knowledge we have into understanding the warped minds of these mass murderers the better chance we would have of preventing future tragedies like these.
