Even though the woman responded to a craigslist ad for adult videos, and even though she may have known she was going to a porn audition, and even though she changed her mind about it once she was there, none of that is ever an excuse for rape. Although the article doesn’t state it, one has to wonder if Cox has any connection to porn or was he just using the ad in an attempt to deceive women into having sex with him? In case you’re lacking any sense of moral decency, that would be considered rape as well.
35-year-old Timothy Gilmore, of Cape Girardeau County, Missouri, has been arrested for allegedly posting child porn online of a 16-year-old girl from Fort Wayne, Indiana, but the charges don’t even come close to telling the whole story. It’s not made known in the article how Gilmore met his victim, but he allegedly used the pervert trifecta of Tumblr, Kik and Snapchat to communicate with her. According to authorities, Gilmore made the girl refer to him as ‘Master T’ while he referred to her as ‘slave’. This may indicate to some people that this was a consensual BDSM relationship, but not only did Gilmore have another woman, who the victim was made to address as Mistress, order the teen around, but Gilmore allegedly wanted the girl to live with him when she turned 18 so he could breed future sex slaves with her. The child porn charges stem from when Gilmore is said to have posted images of the girl on Tumblr. Along with Kik, Tumblr is a popular destination among child porn traders.
What is it with Missouri and guys who want sex slaves? Ok, that’s actually unfair to Missouri, but this story reminds me of Edward Bagley Sr. of Lebanon, Missouri. He took in a 16-year-old runaway and made her his personal sex slave. He not only traded her out to his friends but he sewed her vagina shut as a punishment. Sadly, that could have been the life of Gilmore’s victim if he had his way. He may be only looking at 15 years behind bars but he deserves much more.
It was 11 years ago today that 16-year-old Jennifer Parks, of Randolph, New Jersey, was brutally murdered by her neighbors, James and Jonathan Zarate. It may then be somewhat fitting that yesterday Jonathan Zarate had his latest sentencing appeal denied. Jonathan Zarate was 18 at the time of Jennifer’s murder and was convicted and sentenced to life in 2009.
Zarate’s latest appeal claimed that his counsel was ineffective by not further pursuing an insanity defense. The courts ruled that Zarate’s counsel did adequately pursue those options before pursuing a defense of diminished capacity.
Someone asked me earlier today if there is one particular crime that I’ve posted about that sticks out in my mind. That answer will always be Jennifer’s murder. Not only was it particularly violent, but it’s probably the most senseless murder I’ve ever posted about. Jennifer had so much potential to bring the world and the fact that she wasn’t able to is a travesty.
Yesterday, the FBI offered a $25,000 reward for information leading to the location of Erica Parsons. If you’ll recall, Erica went missing in 2011 from her home in Salisbury, North Carolina, but wasn’t reported missing for two more years. Her adoptive parents, Casey and Sandy Parsons, have claimed that Erica went to live with her biological grandmother in Asheville, North Carolina, but no one can prove that the woman, allegedly Irene ‘Nan’ Goodman, actually exists. The Parsonses also continued to collect the government benefits for Erica while she was missing. They were convicted of fraud and are currently serving out their sentences.
Earlier this month Adam Herrman’s adopted father, 61-year-old Doug Herrman, passed away. Adam disappeared in 1999 at the age of 11, but his adoptive parents, Doug and Valerie Herrman, did not report him missing until 2008. They continued collecting government benefits for Adam and were each sentenced to less than a year for fraud. They’ve both been considered suspects in Adam’s disappearance from Butler County, Kansas.
Police in the state of Washington, received over a thousand responses after posting ads on craigslist that purported to be offering children for sex. One of the ads was entitled “New to Spokane. Young fam fun.” Out of those thousand responses police managed to arrest 40 people who were looking to basically rape children. Only two of those arrested were registered sex offenders. Even a married couple was arrested where the husband allegedly claimed that his wife had fantasies of having sex with a child but never had the opportunity.
The number of responses to these fake ads show that there are obviously real ads on craigslist where children are being traded for sex. It is well within craigslist’s power to do something about these ads but they continue to fail to do so. Not only are there software solutions to this problem, but there are companies that specialize in moderating this kind of content. In the past craigslist has banned ads for unlocked iPhones when that was still frowned upon but continues to do nothing about the obvious sexual predators that inhabit their site.
The problem is that even with all the bad publicity that craigslist receives for being a blatant repository for the child sex trade, it hasn’t cost the company any money. People still continue to use the site supporting it financially and unfortunately I don’t know what it would take to get people to stop. If child rape isn’t enough to make them quit then I don’t know what is.
24-year-old Jonathen Howerton, of Shepherdsville, Kentucky, was arrested late last month for allegedly trying to meet a minor for sex over the mobile messaging app Kik. Howerton was actually corresponding with an undercover investigator and was said to be carrying a loaded handgun at the time of his arrest where he thought he would be meeting the minor.
In response to these charges, Howerton’s father seems to be claiming that his son was a victim of police entrapment…
“Honest opinion, it’s partially entrapment,” he said. “I don’t see how they can legally do it. Yes, the intent was there. Was an actual crime committed? No.”
Despite many claims to the contrary, that is not correct. For example, what if a suspect solicited an undercover investigator to murder someone while thinking the investigator was a hitman? Under that logic, since the investigator wasn’t an actual hitman there was no crime committed. In reality, that’s why they have the charge of attempted murder.
As I’ve said in the past, not only is blood thicker than water, it’s also dumber.
18-year-old Kaalum Scott, of Osceola County, Florida, was arrested earlier this month for allegedly sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl. Scott reportedly met the girl last year, you know…when she was TWELVE, and recently looked her up on the mobile messaging app Kik. He is then said to have threatened the girl over Kik by sending her a picture of himself with a gun while threatening violence against her and her family if she didn’t ‘have sex’ with him. Scott allegedly got his way before his victim told her family.
While being questioned by police Scott at first denied everything, but while in questioning police say that his phone went off after receiving a new Kik message from a male friend…
The affidavit states Scott’s phone went off in the interview room with a message on Kik that read, “See, that is why I told you not to send her any pictures or anything, just deny everything!”
This would be almost comical if we weren’t discussing the sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl.
13-years-old is the minimum age to be on Kik according to their terms of service. Maybe that’s why it’s so attractive to the plethora of sex offenders and pedophiles that infest its network.
“Hadley is accused of telling the responders that the victim wanted the responders to have forcible sexual intercourse with her, even if she screamed or resisted,” the district attorney’s office said.
In case you were wondering, yes, there are desperate enough losers who think ads like this are real. Unfortunately men did start showing up at the victim’s home in Anaheim. One suspect even physically attacked the woman before she could call for help. That man is still on the loose.
Hadley had been arrested for these ads back in late June but was recently arrested again, while out on bail, for allegedly continuing to harass and threaten the victim with violence. She’s now being held on $1M bond.
Sadly, this is hardly the first case of craigslist being used for what I call rape by proxy. Just off the top of my head I can remember Jebidiah James Stipe who had his ex-girlfriend raped through craigslist three states away, the unidentified man from Kannapolis, North Carolina, who had his wife raped by another man through craigslist, and Justin Crawford who tried to have his wife raped through craigslist, but she was able to fight off her attackers.
Again, it comes down to the fact that craigslist continues to leave their ads largely unmoderated unless it suits their needs, as Hadley was reportedly able to continually post ads soliciting men to try to rape her victim.
Even though this arrest happened late last month, there’s not a lot of details concerning this story. What is known is that late in June, 22-year-old Zachary Taylor Garrett, of Kansas City, Kansas, was arrested for allegedly attempting to sell a two-year-old child on craigslist for the purposes of someone having sex with the child.
What hasn’t been made public is Garrett’s relationship to the child, which was probably done to protect the child’s identity. However, it’s currently unknown if the child belonged to Garrett or not. Another detail that hasn’t been made clear is who placed the craigslist ad that Garrett responded to. One report states that the ad was posted by someone else but doesn’t go into much detail after that. Garrett allegedly offered the child to undercover investigators, but it’s unknown if they were the ones who posted the ad, and it’s unclear what the ad was requesting. Unfortunately, someone selling a child for sex on craigslist is not exactly an uncommon occurrence.
As I’ve long lamented, as long as craigslist refuses to moderate their ads depraved acts like this will continue to occur on its pages, and as long as we act indifferently towards craigslist they’ll continue to allow it.
UPDATE 11/1/2016:Garrett pleaded guilty to raping the 2-year-old girl in order to ‘get her ready’ for someone else. This scumbag entered into a plea so the feds would drop their charges as long as he pleaded guilty to state charges and saw a sentence of at least 25 years. While this cretin deserves what he’s sown to be returned a hundredfold, he should get at least life without parole.
