28-year-old Ashley Pegram of Summerville, South Carolina, disappeared on April 4th, 2015 after leaving for a date with a man she is said to have met on the smart phone messaging app Kik. 30-year-old Edward Bonilla was charged with her disappearance and her murder before her body was found.
Earlier this month Bonilla was convicted of Ms. Pegram’s murder and was sentenced to life. During the trial Bonilla tried to claim that her death was an accident. Bonilla hit Ms. Pegram with his mom’s car then tied a plastic bag over her head before disposing of her body in a shallow grave. Her exact cause of death was blunt force trauma.
Ashley Pegram was a mother who didn’t deserve to be killed and left out in the open like that. While meeting people through social apps has become commonplace, it’s still as dangerous as ever. Always exercise caution when making such an arrangement. Let people know where you are going and who you are going with and check in with friends and family on regular basis. Protect yourself and don’t let yourself become a victim.
