The Charlotte Observer is reporting that the skeletal remains of Erica Parsons have been found. Erica went missing in 2011 from her home in Salisbury, North Carolina, but wasn’t reported missing for two more years. Her adoptive parents, Casey and Sandy Parsons, have claimed that Erica went to live with her biological grandmother in Asheville, North Carolina. They were convicted of fraud and are currently in prison. Casey Parsons always maintained that Erica was alive even once saying that she would travel to New Orleans to find her. At the time I sarcastically asked if she would be traveling with OJ Simpson on his trek to find the ‘real killer’.
Erica’s remains were found in Chesterfield County, South Carolina, not too far from where Sandy Parsons’ mother lived. It’s rumored that Sandy Parsons had been talking to authorities while in prison but its unknown if he told them the location of Erica’s body. When the Parsonses were sent to prison after their fraud convictions I wondered how long it would take for one of them to turn on the other. No cause of death has been discussed, but authorities will be holding a press conference next week, although it’s doubtful they’ll have that information at that time.
My prayers and condolences go out to the true friends and family of Erica.
Investigators responded to a craigslist ad from the Virginia Beach area that reportedly said…
“Im an older Spanish freak man in need of fetish sex with young girl”
They posed as a 14-year-old girl and arrested 50-year-old John Francis Aragon after Aragon allegedly exchanged explicit texts with investigators. When law enforcement approached him, Aragon reportedly replied by saying that he didn’t think the girl was really 14, because he thought that everyone on craigslist was 18, and asked the investigators if they knew what catfishing was.
Police were also said to have found texts from Aragon to a 15-year-old boy, and to someone whom he bragged to about allegedly molesting a 13-year-old boy. The father of three is said to have claimed that these texts were simply ‘fantasy’. All that was missing from his story is that he either wanted to just hang out with the girl, or that he was going to warn her about talking to strange men on the internet. If he had used either of those he would have had craigslist creeper bingo.
Until craigslist starts cleaning their own yard, so to speak, these arrests will continue, which means there are also predators on there who haven’t been caught yet.
UPDATE 11/21/2016:Aragon has pleaded guilty, and is looking at 10 to life at his sentencing, which is sentenced for February.
The man who was found murdered was 47-year-old Jeffrey Dewitt Osborne, the father of the 14-year-old shooter. The shooter’s name has still not been released due to his age. The boy allegedly shot his father several times in the chest before the boy called his grandmother in hysterics. His grandmother couldn’t understand him so she went to their home where she found Mr. Osborne’s body. It was shortly after that when it’s believed the shooter opened fire with a handgun on the playground section of the school.
Yesterday, I mentioned that the injuries the victims received were non-life threatening, that wasn’t exactly correct. One of the 6-year-old children almost died from his injuries and is still in critical condition. One witness has said that the shooter had additional ammo with him and it could have been worse if the gun had not repeatedly jammed. The shooter was subdued by a volunteer firefighter who was first on the scene. No motive has been disclosed as of yet, and the shooter’s connection to the school is unknown as he was said to have been home schooled after being suspended for allegedly bringing a weapon to school. One of the students has been quoted as saying that she heard the shooter say that he hated his life. The shooter was also said to be wearing all black at the time of the shooting.
While it has not yet been discussed, under South Carolina law, a 14-year-old who is charged with murder can be tried as an adult.
If I had to hazard a guess at this time, with this preliminary information, I wouldn’t be surprised if the kid turned out to be a ‘columbiner’, or what I prefer to call a ‘mutant’, in other words, a school shooting fanboy. Usually an entitled selfish kid who feels that some minor transgression they perceive against them is worth killing for. As always though, this is just my amateur opinion at this point. I’d also be interested in knowing how the shooter obtained the weapon each time.
Lastly what I’d like to add is that it’s not unusual for a school shooter to kill a family member before they attack the school. Kip Kinkel killed his parents, Jeff Weise killed his grandfather who was his custodial guardian, and Alvaro Castillo killed his father. In many cases when a child kills a parent there are accusations of child abuse, it will be interesting to see if those claims are made.
UPDATE 10/1/2016: The shooter has so far been charged as a juvenile on one count of murder and three counts of attempted murder.
It’s no shock that I’m no friend of sex offenders, and if I see an app that is prone to abuse by them I’ll call it out. However, when I see an article that’s pure FUD that involves the two, I just can’t let it go.
They stop at PokéStops to buy items and at PokéGyms to battle each other, but those stops and gyms can be anywhere—including where CBS12 found more than 1,000 registered sex offenders.
Do you know where else there are Pokestops and gyms? They’re near schools, churches, libraries, museums, and businesses. They are almost everywhere. Hell, there was even a gym in front of the infamous Westboro Baptist Church. Unfortunately, in this day and age, a lot of these locations will inevitably be near a registered sex offender. That does not necessarily mean that registered sex offenders are using Pokemnon Go to prey on children. It would be incredibly stupid for them to do so since they would be the first person police would go to if anything like that happened. Personally, I have only heard of one instance where children playing the game were approached by a possible predator and that guy was driving a van. I’m not saying it’s impossible, just improbable.
Instead of letting children roam freely playing Pokemon Go, maybe parents should learn how to play it and join their kids. You never know, you may actually have fun spending time with your kids doing an activity they enjoy.
Earlier today, a teen suspect opened fire on Townville Elementary School in Townville, South Carolina. Two children and a female teacher were struck by bullets, although their injuries are said to be non-life threatening. The suspect has been taken into custody, and is believed to be connected to a death in Townville that took place earlier in the day. The deceased is said to be an adult male whose body was found at a residence.
I’ll post more details as they become available and as time allows. The only thing I’ll comment on right now is that I’m surprised it took this long into the school year for something like this to happen.
34-year-old Joseph Coder, of Fort Wayne Indiana, has been charged with several crimes involving Snapchat, Kik, and a 12-year-old girl from New Hampshire. Police say that the victim was introduced to Coder in a group chat by one of the victim’s friends. Coder is then said to have given his cell phone number to the victims. Over the various messaging and photo sharing apps they exchanged explicit images of each other. They both claimed to be 16 online but eventually she told Coder she was 12, And Coder allegedly told the girl that he was 23. Then Coder allegedly coerced the girl to send him naked pictures of her 10-year-old sister. When Coder was said to ask for pictures of the girl’s friends, she broke the ‘relationship’ off with Coder. In an interview with police, Coder is said to have admitted that he knew the girl was 12.
According to the terms of service for apps like Kik and Snapchat, a user needs to be at least 13 years of age in order to use their services, however there is no way they can verify a users’ age. In my opinion, due to the amount of predators that inhabit both services, I would recommend not letting any child on them until they were 18. For the parents of pre-teens with cell phones, tablets, and laptops, you may want to think about securing their devices at night. You may trust your child implicitly, but can you trust the stranger on the other end of the conversation?
UPDATE 1/17/2017:Coder has pleaded guilty to vicarious sexual conduct with a 12-year-old girl and felony possession of child porn. He is scheduled to be sentenced in late February.
Former Central Michigan University Student Brendan Andrew Baia, 19, was recently arrested for allegedly exchanging explicit Snapchats with a 12-year-old girl. Baia has left the school after the criminal charges were levied against him. Even at the young age of 19, Baia seems to hit all the stereotypical online predator tropes.
He is said to have referred to this victim as ‘little girl’ and made the girl address him as ‘daddy’. When confronted by the girl’s mother, he said that he thought the victim was ‘turning 16 soon’. When the girl’s mother accused him of preying on other girls he had quite the unusual response…
“Now I’m petrified to think about the things I thought were pleasurable before and that’s how it should be.”
Lastly, he told police that his explicit exchanges with the girl were “only fantasy”. If he had said they were only going to ‘hang out’ we would have had online predator Bingo.
Even if the victim was about to turn 16, that would mean that not only would she be under the age of consent in Michigan, but the explicit images he received from her would still be child porn.
I have to commend the girl’s mother. After the girl started appearing depressed, she had the presence of mind to check the girl’s phone where she found evidence of the Snapchat exchanges between her daughter and Baia. However, parents need to be reminded that no matter how cute the Snapchat filters are, it’s not really a place for unsupervised children due to the messaging feature and the perceived notion that the messages and pictures disappear.
Brockett Lang, age not mentioned, was arrested by the FBI and Sullivan County detectives in Tennessee, for allegedly prostituting a 15-year-old girl on Backpage. Lang was charged with trafficking a child for a commercial sex act, which under a new law is a felony carrying a possible 12 year sentence. If there’s any good news to come from this story is that the girl was not being treated as a criminal and is being treated as a victim.
Even though Backpage may be in its financial and legal death throes that doesn’t mean that the problem of children being prostituted on their site has gone away. I would also be remiss if I didn’t mention that once again this is taking place not only in major urban markets, but as this and many other stories point out, it’s also taking place in small towns and rural areas. This isn’t a niche crime, it’s occurring everywhere and it’s a problem that demands all of our attention.
49-year-old Todd Terry, of Farmington Hills, Michigan, was recently shot and killed after responding to a craigslist ad in nearby Inkster. The article and corresponding video doesn’t specify what the ad was for, but since the article makes reference to the fact that Mr. Terry liked to restore bicycles and mopeds It was more than likely for one of those. Tragically there was no moped or bike to be bought as Mr. Terry’s family have indicated that he was killed just for the money he was carrying.
A suspect by the name of Tremayne Alexander has been charged with Mr. Terry’s murder and is allegedly responsible for two other similar crimes in the area.
Todd Terry’s widow is urging others to forgo craigslist…
“They’re creating something that’s not in existence for you to come and bring what? $100? $50? With the plans to kill you. So I tell people to run from it. Don’t even look at it. Don’t even open it up. I wish Craigslist was shut down,” Yvette Terry said.
As I’ve said in the past, due to craigslist’s low threshold of entry, anyone can post an ad saying just about anything they want. This lack of oversight by craigslist has not only led to numerous scams and robberies, but has also led to a multitude of rapes and murders. Craigslist has become nothing but a trap, luring in an overabundance of victims.
Mr. Terry also left behind two sons ages 16 and 13, and the family has set up a GoFundMe account. By all accounts Mr. Terry was a great man. Please donate if you can.
