More on the Townville Elementary School shooting

The man who was found murdered was 47-year-old Jeffrey Dewitt Osborne, the father of the 14-year-old shooter. The shooter’s name has still not been released due to his age. The boy allegedly shot his father several times in the chest before the boy called his grandmother in hysterics. His grandmother couldn’t understand him so she went to their home where she found Mr. Osborne’s body. It was shortly after that when it’s believed the shooter opened fire with a handgun on the playground section of the school.

Yesterday, I mentioned that the injuries the victims received were non-life threatening, that wasn’t exactly correct. One of the 6-year-old children almost died from his injuries and is still in critical condition. One witness has said that the shooter had additional ammo with him and it could have been worse if the gun had not repeatedly jammed. The shooter was subdued by a volunteer firefighter who was first on the scene. No motive has been disclosed as of yet, and the shooter’s connection to the school is unknown as he was said to have been home schooled after being suspended for allegedly bringing a weapon to school. One of the students has been quoted as saying that she heard the shooter say that he hated his life. The shooter was also said to be wearing all black at the time of the shooting.

While it has not yet been discussed, under South Carolina law, a 14-year-old who is charged with murder can be tried as an adult.

If I had to hazard a guess at this time, with this preliminary information, I wouldn’t be surprised if the kid turned out to be a ‘columbiner’, or what I prefer to call a ‘mutant’, in other words, a school shooting fanboy. Usually an entitled selfish kid who feels that some minor transgression they perceive against them is worth killing for. As always though, this is just my amateur opinion at this point. I’d also be interested in knowing how the shooter obtained the weapon each time.

Lastly what I’d like to add is that it’s not unusual for a school shooter to kill a family member before they attack the school. Kip Kinkel killed his parents, Jeff Weise killed his grandfather who was his custodial guardian, and Alvaro Castillo killed his father. In many cases when a child kills a parent there are accusations of child abuse, it will be interesting to see if those claims are made.

UPDATE 10/1/2016: The shooter has so far been charged as a juvenile on one count of murder and three counts of attempted murder.
