I don’t know why this should matter, but it turns out that the volunteer fireman, Jamie Brock, who was first on the scene was armed. No word on if Brock used his firearm when he subdued gunman, Jesse Osborne.
As expected, Jesse Osborne has been charged with a second count of murder, after 6-year-old victim Jacob Hall died from his injuries. This is in addition to the initial charge of murder for the shooting death of Osborne’s father, Jeffrey Dewitt Osborne. Osborne was also charged with another charge of attempted murder as a new juvenile victim was identified. That victim’s injuries were said to be minor.
Prosecutors in South Carolina have asked the court to try Osborne as an adult. As I mentioned before, under SC law a 14-year-old charged with murder can be charged as an adult. The court will rule on this once Osborne has been psychologically evaluated. As of this posting, no motive has yet to be made public.
UPDATE 4/18/2018: A judge has ruled Osborne will be tried as an adult.
