All Crime Is Personal

NC Mountain town lawyer charged with 59 sexual felonies walks on minimal bond

Andrew C. Jackson Jr.

I originally posted about Andrew C. Jackson Jr. here.  He’s the 38-year-old attorney who was practicing in Jefferson, North Carolina. He was arrested back in October for allegedly placing a spycam in one of the restrooms in his office. Jackson had previously had his license suspended fin 2017 for some financial discrepancies within his office but the suspension was delayed for four years if he kept his nose clean. His nose is reportedly anything but clean at this point.

In my initial post about Jackson, I worried that justice may take a back seat to local backdoor politics as Jefferson is a pretty small mountain town. Or as I put it,  I’m concerned that Jefferson may be a community where legal favors could be exchanged among those in the legal profession. It seems my fears may have been justified.

While Jackson has been charged with 57 felonies charges of misuse of a photographic device, he’s also been released on a mere $15,000 bond. Not a typo, fifteen thousand dollars. For a man who has racked up close to 60 felony charges not only does $15K seem terribly low but even a lawyer in the Appalachians could probably gather that kind of scratch in a short amount of time.  And really, this pittance of a bond is an insult to anyone whose most intimate privacy he may have violated.

My hope is that everyone who reads this story shares it to their social media account of choice as the judicial system not only in Jefferson but also in Ashe County need to have a bigger eye kept on them instead of just one lonely blogger. So for me, please share this story so we can make sure that true justice is carried out in the courts.
