The Trench Reynolds Report

All Crime Is Personal

More on the UNCC shooting

Once again I am sorry for being so late in bringing this to you.

First off, I was wrong about the number of victims. In my initial post, I said that there had been two killed and two wounded. That was incorrect. There had been two killed and four wounded and the victims’ names have been released. Those killed were 19-year-old Ellis Parlier of Midland, NC and 21-year-old Riley Howell of Waynesville, NC. Howell was said to have thrown himself at the attacker preventing further bloodshed. Those wounded were Rami Alramadhan, 20, of Saihat, Saudia Arabia; Sean Dehart, 20, of Apex, NC; Emily Houpt, 23, of Charlotte, NC; and Drew Pescaro, 19, of Apex, NC.

The main offenses Terrell has been charged with are two counts of murder and four counts of attempted murder along with various firearms-related offenses. The murder charges could carry the death penalty, however, no one has been executed in North Carolina for 13-years.

Terrell was said to have purchased his gun legally. As I said previously since he had no criminal record there was very little in the way for him to purchase a firearm legally in North Carolina. Terrell was also said to be in possession of 10 magazines ammunition.

I may have also been wrong about the shooting being a retaliation instead of a random act of violence. Again, in the initial post, I likened the shooting at UNCC to that of the one that happened in Oikos University back in 2012 since the two seemed eerily similar. However, most reports are saying that the craven shooter, Trystan Terrell, had scouted several different locations for the attack, had studied the Sandy Hook shooting and was planning the shooting for months.

However, since the shooting took place inside a classroom where Terrell attended the class I can’t help shake the feeling that this was some form of retaliation against the school or the class in particular. It may have even been something that no one else was aware of since these cowards already seem to think that the world is against them for whatever reason. But it just seems like to me there was some perceived slight in Terrell’s mind that couldn’t go unchallenged.

It’s also been claimed by Terrell’s family members that he’s autistic. This should not be used as either a motive or defense as there are multitudes of people on the autistic spectrum that lead meaningful lives without being violent.
