The Trench Reynolds Crime Report

Crime News That Matters

Would-be school shooter from Virginia Beach released from prison

Back in April of 2009, 17-year-old Philip Bay was arrested for plotting an attack against Landstown High School in Virginia Beach. He was discovered to be in possession of 28 pipe bombs, Molotov cocktails, and various bomb-making materials.

Bay also had a ‘fascination’ with Columbine and would reportedly make anti-Semitic comments to his classmates. He also constantly wore a trench coat while shooting birds with a BB gun according to neighbors. On his MySpace, which was a thing at the time, he listed his heroes as Eric Harris and “whoever invented gunpowder.” He also walked around the neighborhood with a sword and when neighbors expressed concerns to his mother, neighbors said she had a “not my son” mentality.

He was tried as an adult and was convicted in 2010. In 2011, he was sentenced to 12 years behind bars. At the time of his conviction, he had already spent two years in jail.

While details are scarce, it seems that he was released from prison today. Bay is now 28-years-old. At the time of his conviction, he apologized for his actions although I tended to believe that he was sorrier that he got caught.

Hopefully, prison has changed him from being a mass-murdering wannabe anti-Semite into a productive member of society but that remains to be seen. Here’s hoping he won’t show up in these posts again.
