Back in late January, just days after the shooting at Marshall County High School in Benton, Kentucky, that left two dead, a cache of weapons was found in the bedroom of a 14-year-old student of Uniontown Area High School in Pennsylvania. Police were tipped off to the juvenile suspect after another student recorded the suspect making a threat against the school. Whenever one of these stories breaks you always wonder where these kids get the guns from. Well, wonder no more.
The boy’s mother, 45-year-old Lenora Ann Hendrix, has been charged with knowingly and intentionally delivering or providing a firearm to a minor. When asked why she would give a 14-year-old an arsenal of weapons she allegedly replied to teach him responsibility and to “let him grow up.” Guess what, lady. He was neither responsible nor grown up.
While a parent being charged for giving their kids guns that would be used in a school shooting is rare, it’s not unheard of. On the other side of the Keystone State, in Montgomery County, Michelle Cossey was sentenced to four months in prison and five years probation for illegally obtaining guns for her home-schooled son Dillon who plotted an attack against Plymouth-Whitemarsh High School near Philadelphia.
I understand gun culture is different in rural America than in it is in urban areas. I understand allowing one of your children to possibly have a rifle to go hunting if they have an adult to go hunting with to teach them how to responsibly handle a gun. However, allowing your son to keep a semi-automatic rifle, a shotgun, two machetes, throwing knives, two lever-action rifles, a revolver, a crossbow with arrows, and bulk ammunition in his room only teaches him to be selfish and violent.
Georgia mom gets son and friends help rob bank
The band of misfits you see here are, Tawander Simmons (35), her son Benny Brice (17), David Rawlins (17) and Glenn Broom (18) all from Dekalb County, Georgia and they like to rob banks.
There are conflicting stories has to how the leader of the group Tawander, ended up with all three boys. One source says she checked them all out of school on Friday, January 28th. The school’s police say only Brice came to school and decided to leave because the other two had skipped. Dekalb school officials later said none of the boys were in school on the 28th.
Despite the differing stories what is fact is the Tawander and the three boys, robbed a Wells Fargo Bank, at gunpoint, at approximately 9 am on the 28th. Tawander and two of the boys entered the bank and one of the boys remained outside in the getaway car. Mom, armed with a handgun, approached a teller and demanded money. The three robbers exited the bank, jumped in a red Toyota Corolla and led police on a high-speed chase, clocking speeds of up to 90 mph that ended with the car hitting an embankment and railroad tracks. Oops, bet that wasn’t part of the plan.
All four were arrested and charged with armed robbery. I am not sure this is the kind of mother and son quality time that doctors and psychologist recommend. I know… it’s not funny, but come on really, how in the hell did this woman even think they’d get away with this? There are professional bank robbers that spend months, even years planning robberies and don’t get away. She grabs up three teenagers and heads to local bank and thinks they’ll commit this crime and all go home richer. Please!
It is a shame that she thought it appropriate to ask not only her son but also two other teenagers to help her commit a crime that very easily could have cost them their lives. She was an armed woman and they all could have ended up shot or killed in the car as it sped away. Just crazy and careless!

Woman Accused of Trading Daughter for Gun:
That is 33-year-old Tanya Nareau of Mesa, Arizona. She’s been arrested for allegedly trading her 2-year-old daughter for a gun.
Police received a tip and found the girl at a friend’s house who confirmed that the girl as traded for a gun. Nareau allegedly said that the friend could take better care of the girl and Nareau could not legally buy a gun because she’s banned by law.
I’m guessing that she didn’t need the gun for law abiding purposes and I am assuming that the reason she was banned from owning a gun was from a previous run in with the law.
Since she’s being held in Maricopa County Jail I am sure she is not having a fun time.
Thanks to Stephanie for the link.
Mom Charged After 5-Year Old Shot:
I don’t mean to pick on West Virginia today but that’s the way the tips came in.
This time we go to Huntington, WV where 22-year-old Brittany R. Briers was arrested after her 5-year-old daughter was accidentally shot in the foot. The girl and her 2-year-old brother allegedly found the gun under the sofa, unlocked and obviously loaded.
Not just any gun mind you. Not a hunting rifle. Not a handgun for personal protection. No, it was the preferred gun of gang bangers and terrorists, the AK-47.
Even if the gun was owned for less than nefarious purposes, which I doubt, leaving it like that unlocked around children in the worst hiding place ever is just asking to have your kids killed.
Thanks to Angie for the tip.
Gunshot to face slays girl:
Not only should there be an IQ test before becoming a parent there should also be one if you’re going to own a gun. For example take 36-year-old Duke Lawrence Watrous of Oak Point, Texas. He is accused of shooting his 10-year-old daughter in the face on Christmas Eve possibly while intoxicated.
The article states that other unsecured guns were removed from the premises.
Again guns, alcohol and children can have very deadly consequences.
Thanks to Lori for the tip.
Police: Father Says He Accidentally Shot Son:
14-month-old Travis Bohannon was shot and killed while his father was pushing him along in a stroller in Midland, Indiana. Originally his father, 29-year-old Ronald Bohannon, told police that it was some kind of random shooting.
Eventually he admitted to police that he was carrying a gun in his hand while pushing the stroller and the gun went off.
How much of a stupid freakin’ idiot do you have to be to be carrying a gun in your hand while pushing a baby stroller?
Again I’m all for the 2nd Amendment but there are way to many idiots with guns.
Police: Couple Smoked Pot With Baby In Car:
In Indianapolis 27-year-old Marshall Chatman and 25-year-old Constance Payne decided to hit the drive through at Arby’s with their 1-year-old in the car. Nothing too suspicious there except that the drive through clerk noticed the distinct smell of weed coming from the car.
Here’s an interesting fact that a police officer told me once. Nothing else in the world smells like marijuana.
Anyway the clerk stalled them telling them to wait for theiir order while police were on their way.
When arrested the pair told police that Chatman had been smoking a ‘cigar’. *cough*blunt*cough*
A loaded handgun was also allegedly found in the car.
And who says weed doesn’t make you stupid. Or are people already stupid because they smoke weed? I guess that’s the chicken and the egg question.
Man Pushes Son in Leg Braces Down Steps, Punches Daughter, Threatens Wife:
I think we have a contender for father of the year here.
Christopher Donnie Smith Sr. of Lexington Park, Maryland allegedly punched his 16-year-old daughter in the face repeatedly and pointed a gun at her. He’s also accused of pushing his 13-year-old son who wears leg braces down a flight of stairs. He also pointed a handgun at his wife and said that he had nothing to lose and would make her famous.
It makes me wonder how guys like this are able to get married in the first place.
I’m sure we’ll hear about how he’s really a nice guy though.
Boy, 12, killed by gun being cleaned by dad:
12-year-old Ian Dunn died this past Tuesday after being struck by a round that discharged from a gun his father was cleaning. Kevin Dunn claims that the gun was stored for a long time and he had forgot that the gun had a round in it.
Police are still investigating but they say it appeared to be accidental.
I’m not going to jump on Mr. Dunn because he has to live with what happened.
But when you store a gun aren’t you supposed to make sure that it’s unloaded?
Parents, if you have guns and kids in your house please take every precaution possible to avoid accidents like this.
Thanks to Kathy for the tip.
Affidavit: Scoped Rifle Used To Kill Girl, 6:
That’s it. There’s too many idiots with guns and kids out there that I’ve created a category strictly about guns. I don’t have a problem with people who legally own guns. I do have a problem with people who use them so irresponsibly that some one ends up injured or dead.
For example take 23-year-old Matthew Peoples of Oklahoma City. He claims he accidentally killed his 6-year-old daughter when he pointed his scoped rifle at his daughter, Denise Anderson, and pulled the trigger forgetting that he had loaded the rifle the day before. I don’t know why he would then dump his daughter’s body outside of town but here we are.
Let’s just take his story at face value even though I don’t believe it. What is with some people who treat guns as a joke? I have never owned a gun in my life and I don’t plan to. But even I know that you always treat a gun as if it we’re loaded.
