Seattle Pacific University gunman Aaron Ybarra was sentenced to 112 years behind bars for his 2014 attack that left student Paul Lee dead.
Prior to the sentence being handed down Ybarra had this to say…
“I realize I have damaged more than just innocent people,” Ybarra said. “I’ve damaged the community, maybe the world … I wish I could take back what I did.”
Again, probably more sorry that he got caught, and wasn’t able to join his heroes in the cowardly halls of hell.
Ybarra had also previously claimed that his plan was instructed to him by God and Satan. However, the prosecution noted that Ybarra didn’t make any such claims until he had already been in detention and heard talk of ‘God’s plan’ through ministries in jail.
There has been a lot of speculation that Ybarra is somehow representative of the failure of mental healthcare in this country. Let’s not forget that Ybarra was receiving treatment, but not only did he discount the treatment from day one, but also went off his meds so he could ‘feel the hate’.
So don’t shed a tear for Ybarra, he’s going exactly where he belongs for the rest of his natural life, away from society where he can’t hurt anyone anymore.
Yesterday, not believing his claims of being possessed by Eric Harris or the pepper spray making him lie about his intent to kill, a jury found Aaron Ybarra guilty of first-degree murder. Ybarra killed 19-year-old Paul Lee when Ybarra opened fire on Seattle Pacific University in 2014. A number of jurors said that his journal and his admission of going off his meds to ‘feel the hate’ weighed heavily toward his conviction.
Ybarra wanted to emulate his heroes, like Eric Harris and Cho Seung-Hui, but instead he’ll be just another unoriginal loser whose name will be lost to history in a few years. It’s only a shame that he had to kill an innocent man to punctuate his own failures.
Ybarra is looking at a max of 111 years when he is sentenced in January.
Seattle Pacific University gunman Aaron Ybarra, testified in court earlier this week and his testimony was not without spectacle. In his testimony Yabrra claims that he heard the voice of Columbine coward Eric Harris.
“I was hearing Eric Harris’ voice, but before that I felt God talking to me and saying something in my heart,” Ybarra said during questioning by defense attorney Ramona Brandes.
He also claims that he had heard Harris’ voice in his head for years. Ybarra also testified that he didn’t know the shooting that killed SPU student Paul Lee was real until he was in the back of a police cruiser.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Ybarra actually believed that he heard the voice of Harris. As I’ve posted previously, Ybarra is what’s know as a columbiner, that’s basically a school shooting fanboy. I’ve been researching columbiners even before they were called that. An inordinate number of them claim to have had some sort of supernatural encounter with one of the Columbine cowards. The one story that sticks out in my mind, even to this day, is a story I read on a pro-Columbine message board. A grown woman had claimed to have had sex with the ghost of Dylan Klebold, and had his ghost babies. I wish I was making that up.
The reason I think that Ybarra is going with the ever so popular ‘I heard voices’ defense is because his attorney is pursuing an insanity defense. In my opinion that’s a bold strategy to take since, to my knowledge, that defense has never worked for a living American school shooter.
Also according to Ybarra’s testimony it was the pepper spray that was used to subdue him that made him claim to police that he intended to kill people at the school.
Ybarra replied: “The pepper spray was too strong,” referring to his capture by student safety monitor Jon Meis. “I was talking too fast … It was making my mind feel worse.”
He went on to testify that he had a hard time “concentrating on telling the truth” because of the effects of pepper spray.
“The pepper spray was messing me up,” he said.
I’ve never had the misfortune of being pepper sprayed but I’ve never heard of claiming to want to kill as many as people as possible as a side effect.
Considering that Ybarra went off his meds to ‘feel the hate’, it’s obvious that Ybarra knew right from wrong at the time of the shooting. Just like every other school shooter that claimed insanity, the only malady effecting Ybarra’s reasoning is an acute case of fakeritis.
Late last month a King County, Washington judge made the journal of the Seattle Pacific University shooter, Aaron Ybarra, public. In shootings of this nature there’s almost inevitable a journal and they almost always appear like every known school shooter is reading from the same script. Ybarra is no exception.
In the first part of the released journal Ybarra talks about how he underwent mental healthcare for two and a half years and how he felt it didn’t help. Considering he went into it on day one determined that it wouldn’t help him it’s no surprise. You can’t be helped if you don’t want to be. He also talked about how he only underwent treatment because his friends and family kept urging him to. If everyone you know is telling you to get help maybe there is actually something wrong with you.
I’ll also remind the anti-pharmaceutical Luddites that Ybarra went off his meds before attacking SPU. That doesn’t matter to them anyway because they like to play both sides of the argument. If he was on meds it was because of the meds. If he went of his meds it was because of the meds. They are the living embodiment of trying to have your cake and eat it too.
Next, Ybarra talks about all the people he wanted to get revenge on for perceived slights against him and his family. None of whom, as far as I can tell went to SPU and none of them were Paul Lee, the man who Ybarra killed. Like most school shooters Ybarra is just another coward lashing out violently against people who had nothing to do with his own inadequacies and over-inflated sense of entitlement.
Then Ybarra notated about how he scouted out SPU and how everyone was so nice and helpful to him. You think that may cause someone to reconsider their actions but not Ybarra. Like most school shooters he’s just a selfish punk looking to make a name for himself.
Lastly, on the day of the shooting he writes about how he used to feel bad about the people killed during school shootings but now he’s being guided by Eric Harris And Cho Seung-Hui. Like those who came before him Ybarra is just another unoriginal loser unable to cope with the real world.
While some may think that this is a good way to make a name for themselves in a few years his name will be forgotten. We may remember the Jesse James’ of the crime world but how many outlaws were there whose names have been forgotten to history?

Apparently it’s not the media’s job to inform anymore but to incite. It’s not about reporting the facts anymore, it’s about how to get as many pageviews and clickthroughs as possible and the best way to do that is to piss people off. For example, take an article from the Seattle Times about Seattle Pacific University shooter Aaron Ybarra.
The headline from the article is “SPU shooting suspect once had AK-47, 7 other firearms at home”. The article constantly mentions that Ybarra’s family owned the guns but not him. The article also goes on to state that the guns in question were stolen from the home and none of the guns mentioned were the one that Ybarra used when he killed SPU student Paul Lee.
The article also obsesses over the fact that one of the guns owned by the Ybarra family was an AK-47. I don’t know why the AK-47 keeps getting demonized just because it’s one of the most mass-produced guns in the entire world. It’s the Toyota Camry of guns. It is no more or less deadly than any other gun but for some reason the media has this obsession over the AK-47.
What really gets me is that while the article obsesses over guns that had no part whatsoever in the SPU shooting it totally buries the lede in the article.
Aaron Ybarra and his family members kept eight firearms in a safe at their Mountlake Terrace home, even though Ybarra had been hospitalized in 2010 after hearing the voice of Columbine killer Eric Harris telling him to hurt people, documents say.
So let’s blame the shooting on guns and not the fact that he’s a psychotic mutant.
While I consider myself to be a centrist on the issue of guns, having guns in the house is not like having some kind of radioactive element in the house that infects everybody with wanting to kill disease by being exposed to it.
Prosecutor: Seattle campus shooter went off meds:
Prosecutors in Seattle say that SPU gunman Aaron Ybarra went off his stopped taking his psychiatric medication before he went on his shooting spree because he wanted to ‘fell the hate’. No word yet on what the medication in question was but this will open the door once again for the anti-psychiatry Luddites to blame the shooting on his meds, even though they can never make up their minds if being on the meds or off the meds makes someone violent. With this evidence this leads me to believe that Ybarra was very cognizant of what he was planning since he was supposedly still on them when deciding to go on this shooting spree. I wonder is his mother knew if he was off his meds since she was the one who previously refused to have him detained.
Ybarra is also said to have had the pre-requisite journal in which he noted his admiration for the cowards from Columbine and Virginia Tech. That officially does make him a mutant or Columbiner if you will.
It was also noted that Ybarra may have scoped out other colleges besides SPU. Still no word on motive or why he picked SPU except for when he told police that he had hatred for the world in general.
He is facing a life sentence on first degree murder charges.
UPDATE 6/30/2014: Ybarra recently pleaded not guilty and his attorney is said to be pursuing an insanity defense.
Seattle Pacific shooting: Despite ‘rage inside,’ Aaron Ybarra found ‘not detainable’:
Another day has passed and a clearer picture is starting to emerge about what happened at Seattle Pacific University and maybe even a little bit of the why.
First off please allow me to extend my prayers and condolences to the friends and family of 19-year-old Paul Lee. Mr. Lee was the lone fatality in the shootings.
Getting back to the suspect, Aaron Ybarra, most reports are stating that Ybarra had severe mental issues and substance abuse issues. In 2010 he supposedly told police that he had a rage inside and wanted to kill himself and as many people as possible. In 2011 he went to the ER saying he was hearing the voice of Columbine coward Eric Harris urging him to commit violence. No word on if he wanted to have Dylan Klebold’s ghost babies. In 2012 he is reported to have said that he wanted SWAT to make him famous. So he is a mutant (Columbine fanboy) and this is more than likely a copycat shooting but the question is was he a mutant before or after he started having mental issues? Personally I think you have to have mental issues if you admire two cowards like that.
Speaking of the two cowards it seems that Ybarra may have had similar parenting…
He was twice evaluated by psychiatrists, but was found “not detainable” after his mother refused to have him admitted.
Again as a society we need to remove the stigma of getting help for mental health issues. It’s nothing to be ashamed of. Personally i would rather have someone commit me than be a danger to others. It’s not a question about guns but of mental health. Where do we draw the line when someone’s mental health issues make them a danger to society against their right to freedom? Although I am curious where he got the gun from.
Ybarra is also said to be saying that he’s sorry about the shootings. That was said through his lawyer so take that for what it’s worth. As usual I bet he’s more sorry about being caught before he could take the coward’s way out. Speaking of which he’s on suicide watch. I pray that the he is not successful in taking his own life. His death would only make him a martyr to the Columbiners of the world.
I’m sure by now we’ve all heard about the shooting at Seattle Pacific University where four students were shot and unfortunately one of them died at the hospital. I used to post these stories as soon as they happened then I realized it was better to wait a day so all the fallacies that are usually involved with shootings like this can filter themselves out. Even a day later while most of the information has been made available there are still some conflicting reports.
What we do know is that 26-year-old Aaron Ybarra entered the school armed with a shotgun and began firing. Four people were struck before he could reload and while reloading he was subdued by several students including a monitor who pepper-sprayed him. We do know that Ybarra was not a student of the school. What we don’t know yet is motive.
Some reports are saying that he was obsessed with Columbine while others say he merely researched it. There has also been conflicting reports that he had previously visited Columbine itself while others say he didn’t. Does this make a difference? To me it does. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if he was the Columbine fanboy as some of the reports say that he is. He’d be far from the first and probably not the last. My only surprise is that he’s 26. While not the oldest mutant ever that’s pretty old to still be worshiping the Columbine cowards.
Some reports are saying that he was a nice guy, which we’ve heard about way too many killers, while others have described him as angry, anti-social and disaffected. Also not surprisingly he lived with his parents.
Yesterday there were also reports of a second gunman. Ever since Columbine every one of these shootings have had reports of a second gunmen that never turn out to be true but keep the conspiracy nuts busy. Police reported that there was confusion about a second gunman because of one of the students who was trying to disarm Ybarra.
There have also been reports that Ybarra was socially awkward so don’t be surprised if Asperger’s starts being used as a defense or an excuse. By now you should already know my feelings about that. Asperger’s does not turn people into killers.
I haven’t heard the bullying trope yet either. Even if he was bullied in school so what? He’s been out of high school for at least 7 or 8 years and since he didn’t go to high school at SPU it shouldn’t matter. If you’re still obsessing about your bullies into your late 20s you’ve let them win.
I’m sure the motive will be just like most school shootings. Some guy with an over-inflated sense of entitlement feels that the world owes him something so rather than owning up to his own failures takes it out in violence.
I’m glad that he was taken alive. Too many of these scumbags take the coward’s way out before they can face justice. Unfortunately the governor of Washington has put a moratorium on death sentences.
