Once again I find myself having to apologize for the tardiness of my posts. As I mentioned in my previous post I’ve been having some personal issues and blogging has been the last thing on my mind. However that should be no excuse. As bad as I have it there are people who have it worse.
For example a few Friday nights ago in Philadelphia 27-year-old Daniel Cooke, of Williamstown,New Jersey went to Philadelphia with a few friends. Not unheard of as Philly is a known nightspot for some of those in South Jersey. However Daniel was not going to Philly for a night on the town. Daniel and his friends went to the West Oak Lane section of Philadelphia to look at an ATV that had been advertised on craigslist. That’s where police say that he met up with 23-year-old Thomas Coffee.
Witnesses say that Coffee walked Daniel down the street and when was out of eyesight Coffee allegedly robbed Cooke and shot him in the face. Cooke died from his wounds at the scene. There was never any ATV according to police. Investigators say that this was a premeditated attack perpetrated by Coffee in order to lure and rob someone. Coffee is said to have a lengthy criminal record.
Even though Daniel Cooke may have made several mistakes in what he thought was a good faith business transaction Craigslist will try to tell you that there are safe ways to conduct business through craigslist. There aren’t. It doesn’t matter if you have friends with you or if you meet the seller or buyer during the day. I have posted story after story about people being attacked in what a lot of people would think are reasonably safe. That just means the safer you try to be the more brazen the criminal will try to act.
Do yourself a favor and avoid craigslist. They have lost the war to the criminals not that they ever put up much of a fight.
A year and a half ago I posted about a craigslist robbery in Trotwood, Ohio. In that robbery the victim was literally shot in the face, through his jaw if memory serves me correctly. Thankfully the victim survived.
At that time there wasn’t a lot of details that was until now. Last week the gunman, Keron Simpson, was sentenced to 14 years for the robbery and the shooting. That’s in addition to his 33 to life sentence for another robbery and a fatal shooting.
The victim got the opportunity to address Simpson at the sentencing and took full advantage of it…
That victim, Chris Voudris, was in the Montgomery County Common Pleas courtroom during the sentencing hearing on Wednesday and asked Simpson to “look me in the eye.” He told Simpson that “soon you will be nothing to society but a number” the rest of his life, an allusion to his future as a prison inmate.
In case you needed another reason not to do business on craigslist this should be it.
A man from Shelby Township, Michigan is dead after responding to a craigslist ad for an ATV.
The man and a friend went to a house in Detroit after responding to an ad for an ATV. The ‘seller’ said he needed a ride to get the keys. While in transit the ‘seller’ shot both men killing one.
The suspect is still at large and the victim has not yet been named.
One of these days I’m going to tally the body count that craigslist has left in its wake and have sort of a memorial.
Don’t forget to tell your friends that craigslist is not only dangerous but they do nothing to protect their users. Let them know about this site to show them that craigslist isn’t the trustworthy hippy commune that everyone thinks it is.
And since this happened in Murder City don’t expect to see this in the national media.
I couldn’t find an article that said what the relationship is between the suspect and the child buut for the sake of this post let’s assume he’s either the breeder or bad boyfriend.
Anyway, 36-year-old John Pollard is accused of taking off drunk on an ATV with a 23-moth-old toddler in his arms. Since he was allegedly drinking you can pretty much guess what happens next.
The ATV took a spill. No that’s mot right, the ATV is just a machine. Pollard allegedly rolled the ATV sending both him and the child flying. Of course no helmets were being worn and the drunk comes out of it without a scratch. The child was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
So far no charges have been filed but I imagine they will be.
