Online sale of cell phone leads to murder in Baton Rouge

Austin Rashaad Norwood

22-year-old Austin Rashaad Norwood of Walker, Louisiana, was shot and killed in Baton Rouge after going to sell a cell phone he posted online. To the best of my knowledge, it has not been made public which site or app Mr. Norwood used. Mr. Norwood and his cousin went to an apartment complex to sell the phone. Instead, at least 11 bullets ripped through the car striking both men in what police believe was a robbery attempt. As of yesterday, no suspects have been apprehended. Mr. Norwood was said to have been an honor student with no criminal record and an aspiring music producer. Another life full of potential snuffed out just because some street trash wanted to make a few quick bucks.

No matter what platform you use, if it requires face to face meetings, insist on meeting at a local police station. If they say they can’t, don’t go. If any red flag presents itself, listen to your gut. It’s not worth losing your life over. You may also want to consider just posting your item on eBay. That way, all you have to do is take it to the post office. Although, eBay presents its own set of problems, but none are as dangerous as murder.

Police are asking anyone for information about the shooting.

Anyone with information about this shooting is urged to call Crime Stoppers at (225) 344-7867.

Woman escapes death penalty for strangling twins

Woman pleads guilty, gets life in twin killings:

32-year-old Sherie Shantel Simms of Baton Rouge pleaded guilty to the strangulation deaths of her 6-year-old twin sons Samuel and Soloman. By doing so she’s been spared a dance with the needle and was given two concurrent life sentences.

In May of 2007 Simms gave her sons Tylenol PM then strangled them with an extension cord because ‘she was tired of struggling to make ends meet.’ She allegedly tried to overdose herself but obviously failed there as well.

So you were tired of struggling to make ends meet. Boo-hoo. Welcome to life sister. We all struggle. You couldn’t put your kids up for adoption or asked a relative for assistance? The failed OD attempt makes me wonder how hard did she actually try to kill herself.

Again if you’re going to off yourself be ‘man’ and go alone.

Thanks to Lori for the tip.
