PC thuggery in the wake of 9/11

We’ve all seen this picture. 3 New York City firemen raising an American flag on the rubble of what was once the World Trade Center the day after the 9/11 attacks. Their names are Dan McWilliams, George Johnson, and Billy Eisengrein. Turns out they want to make this into a statue and put it at FDNY headquarters in Brooklyn. That’s great isn’t it? Hey guess what else they want to do? They want to make one of the firefighters black and another one Hispanic. What? I said they want to make them more diverse? What? They want to reflect the ethnic make up of FDNY. What? I said they want to be more politically correct. What? I said they want to rewrite history.

First, check out this article. Then take a good long look at the picture. Ok, now I have to preface this, because I have to defend myself for everything, by saying I am not a racist. I hate people based on their stupidity not their skin color. I digress. Do you see any black or Hispanic men in that picture? Neither do I. The man who owns the property that FDNY HQ is on, Bruce Ratner, is the man who commissioned the work. He stated that he wanted a work that was representative of all 343 firefighters that died in the WTC attacks. That’s fine. Build a memorial with all their names on it. And put their nationalities also if that means so much to you. But don’t change history. Why don’t you add an Asian fireman to the sculpture. I’m sure there were some Asian firefighters that died that day too. If it were 3 black firefighters that had raised the flag would they be trying to change their ethnicity then? I don’t think so.

I’m sure most of you have seen the famous photograph and sculpture of the US Marines raising the flag at the battle of Iwo Jima during World War II. One of those Marines was an American Indian. Did they change him to white in the sculpture? Hell no. I had an uncle who was a Marine at Iwo Jima. If he was in a sculpture and they changed his ethnicity I would be mightily pissed.

Hey, if you want to build a memorial that doesn’t depict an actual event you can do whatever the hell you want with it. But if you’re going to depict an actual event in history. Don’t fuck with the details. Luckily, it looks like Mr. Ratner is going to change his mind.

But the politically correct bullshit doesn’t end there.

Brooklyn Borough president Marty Markowitz has taken down a picture of George Washington from a heavy traffic area in Borough Hall. He defends his actions saying this is 2002 and there isn’t one person of color portrayed. You know I hate that term “person of color”. We’re all some color. Again I digress. My point is that if anyone deserves to have their picture in a prominent place its George Washington. After all he did lead the revolution that made America a free country.

As it turns out in this article I read that this sort of thing has been going on since the attacks. Black firemen in Florida (go figure) refused to ride on a truck that displayed the American flag stating that it was an oppressive symbol to blacks. In an interview after the attacks black songstress Alicia Keys stated that she was torn about seeing US flags all over NYC stating that there are lies in the flag. Ok, yes white men who were patriots of this country did promote slavery, but it was also a white man under this flag by the name of Abraham Lincoln that freed the slaves. It was another white man by the name of John F. Kennedy that helped pass a lot of civil rights laws. And that was probably part of, if not the main reason, why he was killed. And I know not all blacks feel this way. Just a vocal minority that feel they speak for all blacks. I’m looking at you Sharpton.

This is America. If you don’t like it or don’t like the flag, you’re free to leave at any time. Try France. They hate us too.
