After a mistrial I’m actually surprised that Oliver took the plea. I thought there would have been a good chance he would have been acquitted if they had gone to trial again. I’d rather see him go to jail for 13-27 then walking out free.
Recently the family of the victim of the Taft Union High school shooting has filed a claim against the school on the grounds that the school failed to protect the victim. No wait, I read that wrong,. The family of the gunman filed the multi-million dollar claim for the school allegedly failing to protect their precious snowflake.
Not only do I hope that Oliver is found guilty during his retrial later this month but I hope the family of Bowe Cleveland sue Oliver’s family for every penny. You relinquish any claims of victimhood when you shoot an unarmed kid in the chest.
UPDATE 6/7/2015: Oliver’s mom has been dismissed from the lawsuit against the school. I wish I could say it was because a judge thought she deserved no money but it was actually because she waited too long to file.
I have said from the beginning that I pray for Bowe Cleveland and I said under oath on the stand that he didn’t deserve this. But my son Bryan is the ultimate victim in this case. He was tortured, teased, called faggot, ginger and fatty everyday by these kids including Bowe Cleveland and Jacob Nichols. At least Jacob had the decency to testify truthfully about his treatment of my gentle but different son, who simply snapped after enduring the torture.
First off your victimhood kind of lessens when you shoot someone in the chest with a shotgun putting them in a medically induced coma. Second, your son didn’t ‘simply snap’. The shooting had to have been planned well in advance. Also let’s not forget that mass murder is not a reasonable response to being bullied. He intended to kill and should not be excused from his actions.
Back in January of 2013 a then 16-year-old Bryan Oliver stormed Taft Union High School, in Taft, California, with a shotgun and discharged the gun into the chest of his victim, Bowe Cleveland. Cleveland had to be induced into a medical coma and had further complications after his initial release from the hospital. Oliver fired another shot at another student by the name of Jacob Nichols. A teacher prevented Oliver from committing anymore violence. Oliver was charged as an adult with two counts of attempted murder. Yesterday during the sentencing phase of Oliver’s trial a mistrial was declared.
As in most school shooting cases bullying was used as the main defense. I’m still of the opinion that the bullying in Oliver’s case may have just been a case of him being a violence obsessed loser in the vein of Cho Seung Hui but I digress. It appears that the defense was a successful one for now because of bleeding heart jurors…
“I think he went in there to shoot the child, but I don’t think he went in there to murder,” he said. “Just because you shoot somebody doesn’t mean you want to kill them.”
In the end, Miller said, the greatest failure was on the part of the school district.
“They didn’t step up,” he said. “This boy was crying out for help, and they didn’t give it to him.”
With all due respect sir you are a fucking moron. When you shoot someone, with a gun, killing them is your only intention. Especially when the person holding the gun was discovered to have written bloody revenge fantasy stories. If for some reason Oliver goes free after the retrial in January and goes on to commit violence again you should be the second person held responsible.
In most school shootings bullying is almost always brought up as a motive. It’s a go to for most knee jerk reactions to school shootings. In my opinion this is a misconception because I have yet to see bullying being proven as a motive in any school shooting. The shooting at Taft Union High School in California is no exception.
Right after the shooting witnesses have told the media that gunman Bryan Oliver was bullied for being a ginger. As I said in my previous post if this is what passes for bullying that causes kids to go on shooting sprees then we are raising a bunch of emotional marshmallows. When I was bullied it was because I was smaller than everyone else, nothing more. My bullying resulted in concussions, a separated shoulder and many other trips to the hospital. In Oliver’s case he may have brought the bullying on himself.
In their investigation police found a short story allegedly written by Oliver called ‘Phycopath” that was posted online.
The story, which was posted in June, details the tribulations of a bullied high school student who slaughters his former tormentors as an adult.
Peers torment the abused main character, “Demian,” pretending to befriend him to gain his trust only to use “that to destroy him.”
“In school (Demian) couldn’t make any friends at all no matter how much he tried. It soon seamed [sic] that everyone that looked at him became determined to make his life hell,” the story said.
At graduation in the story, bullies douse Demian with a bucket of goat’s blood. Later, after a tour of duty in Iraq and stint in law school, Demian kills the student who tipped the bucket by drowning the bully in the blood of his family members. Demian continues to murder his persecutors in ways that echo their past harassment, including dropping one couple into a pit lined with giant thumbtacks.
Between the scenes of torture, Demian marries a woman who shares his interest in the Industrial Revolution and they have a child. The poem culminates violently when Demian locks his former classmates in a gym during their high school reunion and juggles knives until he makes a cartoon reference and tosses a blade into an onlooker’s neck.
This is eerily reminiscent of the badly written blood filled fantasy of Cho Seung-Hui, “Richard McBeef“. Anyway, my question is was Oliver this violence obsessed ‘phycopath’ prior to any alleged bullying or has he always been this deranged? There could be a very good reason why ‘Demian’ wasn’t able to make any friends. These are the questions we should be asking instead of just blurting out bullying every time a shooting like this happens. Nobody realizes more than me how horrible bullying can be on kids however even if there was bullying it should never be used as an excuse to commit murder.
In other Taft Union news the real victim in this, Bowe Cleveland, was re-admitted to the hospital this past week due to complications with the gunshot wound in his chest. This is after his initial hospital stay after the shooting where he was in a medically induced coma right after the shooting. I have not read if he has been released yet but I hope and pray that he is able to recover from his wounds as best as possible.
Today in court 16-year-old Taft Union High gunman Bryan Oliver pleaded not guilty. That should come as no shock. Rarely if ever do one of these cowards take responsibility for their actions. What I’d rather talk about is somethings that were mentioned in each of these articles.
In the top article I linked to it states that Oliver shot at his intended targets because they “annoyed” and “bullied” him. That was from official court documents. Annoyed is an unusual word in this circumstance but in my opinion not surprising. Most shooters like Oliver consider themselves superior in one war or another about those around them. Harris and Klebold were the perfect examples as they thought they were better than everyone else and should have been recognized for the self-inflated senses if superiority.
In the second article a student interviewed by CBS says that Oliver was bullied because he was ‘a ginger’. For the uninitiated a ginger is a person with red or reddsih hair. A few years ago on South Park a running joke was made that gingers have no souls.
If this is what passes for bullying these days no wonder these kids are a bunch of emotional marshmallows. I hate to pull the ‘in my day card’ but when I was bullied it resulted in concussions and broken bones and again not once did I ever think to pick up a gun to solve my issues. We need to stop raising our kids like there isn’t a cruel world out there because that’s all it is.
The headline pretty much says it all doesn’t it. 16-year-old Bryan Oliver is accused of shooting his classmate Bowe Cleveland in a classroom at Taft Union High School last week. The local D.A. announced today that he will be tried as an adult. The name of Oliver’s second intended victim has also been released and his name is Jacob Nichols. Nichols escaped without grave injury while Cleveland is in a medically induced coma after taking a shotgun blast to the shoulder and chest. Oliver is looking at 25 years to life on charges of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon.
Most reports are saying that Cleveland and Nichols were in fact bullying Oliver at some point. I’m not going to comment on this as of yet until I see the extent of the bullying that allegedly took place. However no matter how Oliver was supposedly bullied it does not justify trying to blow someone’s guts out with a shotgun. This is definitely not a case of Oliver just trying to scare his alleged tormentors. He planned out his ambush and carried it out with precision and without remorse.
Also as I’ve said many times before has bullying subsided since these school shootings have started taken place. No it hasn’t. It’s only forced schools to try and identify who the next would be shooter be. Nothing will ever be done about bullying in schools until the schools get the guts to stand up to the parents of bullies regardless of whatever threats they may make.
The name of the victim in the Taft Union High School shooting is 16-year-old Bowe Cleveland. Bowe is in stable condition but is currently in a medically induced coma. He is believed to be one of the intended targets of the 16-year-old gunman.
This particular article states that the gunman called out the name of his second intended target after shooting Cleveland.
My prayers and thoughts go out to the friends and family of Bowe Cleveland and I pray for his speedy recovery.
The suspect’s name has yet to be released.
That’s all the new that’s out now that I’ve found to be worthwhile. I’ll have more as details become released and as time allows.
