The NYPD are looking for a man who they believe raped a 21-year-old woman in the Bronx. The victim says that she responded to a modeling ad on craigslist. After going to meet the man at the Paradise Motor Inn on Boston Rd., the victim tried to leave before the suspect raped her.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at nypdcrimestoppers.com
Police on Thursday released photos and videos of the suspect, and are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS.
What I refer to as the modeling scam is one of the more preferred tricks in the online sexual predator’s arsenal. Mostly, I’ve posted about how it’s used to target underage girls, but it’s not unheard of being used to target adults. Again, if you have such aspirations you probably should avoid craigslist since anybody can say that they’re a modeling agent considering that the ads are free.
27-year-old Jonathan Blum is a high school teacher in the Bronx although that may not make him the brightest bulb. New York investigators say that Blum posted a craigslist ad allegedly looking for sex with someone underage who was “interested in messing around with a licensed real teacher.” He might as well have just called the police to turn himself in and eliminate the middle man. Instead police posed as a 14-year-old girl and were able to arrest Blum at a pre-arranged meeting place.
At least this exposed a teacher as an alleged predator before he could hopefully harm any kids.
UPDATE 7/31/2016: Blum was sentenced to six months in jail.
Bronx judge sentences “despicable human being” to max for pimping out 13-year-old girl on craigslist:
34-year-old Sahim Lucas of The Bronx was sentenced to 25 years in prison for prostituting a 13-year-old girl on craigslist. Bronx Supreme Court Justice Megan Tallmer gave him the max sentence allowed under New York law and had this to say about the defendant.
“You are as despicable a human being as I have ever come across,” she said sternly. “There is nothing here that would call for any type of leniency.”
Like so many other pimps and predators Lucas promised the runaway girl a career in modeling after meeting her in my old stomping grounds of Atlantic City in 2008. Once they got back to the Bronx things were much different. He advertised the girl on craigslist with explicit photos that he took of her. Also like most cowardly pimps he assaulted her and tortured her into working the sex trade for him.
During his trial Sahim showed no remorse even going as far to represent himself. Insert cliché quote about what kind of person represents himself.
“This is about you smiling for the cameras,” he shouted. “I didn’t do anything to this girl.”
You know, except for the assault, and torture and making her work like a slave for you.
We need more judges like Judge Tallmer that aren’t afraid to put these scumbags away for a long time where they belong.
If there is any true justice in the world Lucas will be traded around prison like the bitch that he is.
Bronx pimp convicted in teen prostitution ring:
25-year-old Ross Campbell of Queens was convicted of forcing several women into prostitution and advertising them on craigslist in 2008. His victims were at least three women, two were 19 and one was 18. Campbell raped the 18-year-old before forcing her into prostitution. She was ‘given’ to Campbell by an associate because the associate owed Campbell money for weed.
Sometimes I am horrified how economics works in the criminal world. What I’m not shocked by is how much of it has taken place on craigslist.
Campbell is looking at 50 years on his convictions of kidnapping and human trafficking.
NYPD arrests slain woman’s MySpace friend:
23-year-old Nimzay Aponte was stabbed in a Bronx park this past Tuesday. She told police that ‘Mike’ did it. ‘Mike’ was a MySpace friend of hers that wanted to meet her but she refused. She would later die from her wounds.
‘Mike’ turned out to be 35-year-old Dennis Raymond. He’s been charged with 2nd degree murder.
While I’m not blaming the victim this should serve as an example as why you should keep as little as your personal information from being online.
