I originally posted about Max David Miller here. Not only did he plead guilty to luring underage girls over the Canadian social site Nexopia but he also had sex (child rape) with the girls after getting them drunk. He solicited girls as young as 10-years-old. Prosecutors are asking for a sentence of 10-12 years.
In court last week Miller ‘apologized’ to his victims while trying to get leniency from the court…
“I am truly sorry . . . primarily for the psychological problems and psychiatric trauma to the victims,”
“I want help and I want to be a contributing member of society.”
His lawyer had this to say…
“The psychological reports tell of his rehabilitation and his ability to rehabilitate himself for his deviancy,” said Hepner. “He is motivated to rehabilitate himself.
“He’s still a young man and a first-time offender. To give him a 10-year sentence would be crushing.”
You know what was crushing? The mental and physical damage that this scumbag inflicted on his victims. He may be a first time offender in the eyes of the law but he had multiple victims. In reality this was probably his first time in being caught.
10 years is a joke of a sentence for what this serial predator did. He should be put away for life. Unfortunately if history is any indicator he’ll probably only get 5 years then be out again with plenty of time to find more victims.
46-year-old Derrick Allan Hamilton of Vernon, BC (not AD) has been arrested for allegedly grooming teenage boys that he met through craigslist.
Police in Calgary say that Hamilton placed an ad on craigslist that was almost blatantly asking for sex with young boys. They also say that he had at l;east two victims, one that was 13 and another that was 14.
Hamilton allegedly got them to pose for explicit pictures and videos over their webcams. Police also say that he had sexual contact with one of his victims.
Hamilton was busted when one of his victims told his parents.
Speaking of parents, no 13 or 14-year-old boy needs a webcam in an unsupervised area. Also parents need to do a better job of monitoring their kids’ activities online. If you’re reading this you should know that craigslist is no place for any child.
Now that makes it sound like that Miller ‘just’ asked underage girls on Nexopia to have sex with him but it goes way beyond that.
Miller solicited over 300 girls for sex or explicit images of themselves through both Nexopia and MSN Messenger. He would do this to girls ages 10 to 15. He told his victims that if they got pregnant by him he would either get them an abortion or take care of them. He also said that if one of the girls did have a baby through him that he would like to ‘play’ with the baby and then teach the child about sex himself.
He would also tell his victims that if they had boyfriends it wouldn’t be considered cheating since he would be technically raping them.
Miller also asked girls to find him other victims as young as 7-years-old.
This is one of those posts that I feel the need to take a shower after typing it.
The article states that Miller is looking at a lengthy sentence but if history is any indicator it won’t be as long as it should be.
And let’s not forget that 10-year-olds don’t need to be on any social networking sites.
Matthew Alan Armstrong of Calgary, Alberta was convicted for using Nexopia to lure minors into having sex with him. If you’ll recall he’s the guy who approached a 14-year-old girl, a 15-year-old girl, a 19-year-old girl who posed as a 13-year-old girl ala To Catch a Predator, and a 13-year-old girl who was actually a police detective and had sex with the 14-year-old girl in a train station bathroom.
Previously his lawyer argued that his client should get time served because he allegedly has muscular dystrophy which affects his judgment. Never mind the fact that the 27-year-old Armstrong told his victims that age is ‘just a number’.
He might as well have gotten time served because for all his actions Armstrong only got less than 2 years behind bars. After that he’ll be on probation for only 3 years and be a registered sex offender for 20.
So once he’s 47 he’ll be free to prey on young girls again. Pathetic.
26-year-old Ian Stuart Johnson of Calgary, Alberta, Canada pleaded guilty to child porn charges. It seems that Johnson would lure underage girls over the Canadian social site Nexopia offering them money and alcohol.
Everytime a Nexopia user would complain about Johnson they would shut down his account only to have him open a new one.
The prosecutor said all of the communications Johnson had was with females who reside in Calgary and were between 14 and 18 years old.
The correspondence, which occurred under the user names satellite_eye, Secureca, Coca-cola55 and dmwarehouse – all Johnson’s – occurred between August 2002 and February 2005 and elicited several complaints from other Nexopia users, prompting site owner Timo Ewalds to terminate the man’s accounts one by one.
While I’m glad that this scumbag is being put away I wonder why it is that you don’t hear about the Canadian government putting pressure on these sites. Maybe they actually think it’s a parent’s job to protect their children.
A 14-year-old from Calgary was arrested back in April for threatening to kill two of his teachers on the Anniversary of Columbine. Recently the charges against him were dropped after he agreed to what the article calls one-year peace bond.
The peace bond requires the teenager to report to a probation officer, reside with his parents and not have any contact with the two teachers or any students involved in the matter.
He’s also not allowed to go within one city block of the southwest junior high school he once attended, use the Internet without supervision or come into contact with any firearms.
My beef here isn’t with the kid because he told his parents who went and got him help. However as the headline states he came to the conclusion that he wanted to kill his teachers after viewing Michael Moore’s ‘documentary’ Bowling for Columbine.
This isn’t the first time I’ve posted about a potential threat against a school that wasn’t in some way influenced by the film. Yet you never hear the media speaking out about the movie. It’s always video games or violent movies that they usually cite as the cause.
Do I think Michael Moore’s disgrace of a film caused this kid to want to shoot his teachers? No, of course not. I just think if people are going to get into an uproar about video games and the like they should be getting into an uproar about this film as well.
