One of the complaints we receive from the entrapment whiners is there aren’t any real children on craigslist. So whenever someone is busted by police posing as an underage ad poster on craigslist the whiners cry entrapment. Well, the police in Manchester, Connecticut may disagree.
It was in Manchester where police arrested 36-year-old Luqman Gotti on charges of soliciting and receiving child porn. Gotti allegedly responded to an ad placed by a 13-year-old boy in the casual encounters section which read…
“Sub young looking for dom near manchester,” and said, “I’m a teen under 18 looking to get dominated, or just casual sex.”
Gotti is said to have responded to the ad, then the 13-year-old sent Gotti explicit images and videos of himself. Gotti then reportedly sent the boy a sexually explicit picture in return. Gotti was found out when the boy’s mother had discovered the messages between the boy and Gotti on the boy’s iPad. As usual we have a ‘To Catch a Predator’ type excuse from the suspect. He claims that his conversations with the boy were all talk because he was bored. Manchester police were more than happy to respond to that claim.
A detective then showed Gotti a printout of the conversation with the boy in which he first asked for the boy’s age and then later requested that the teen send photos of himself, the warrant says.
“Gotti then told police, ‘I understand where you’re coming from and I understand where it makes me look bad,’” the warrant says.
It’s also worth noting that conversations between the boy and other men were found as well. So, to say there are no children posting ads on craigslist is just wrong.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not blaming the victim. He obviously has had some kind of trauma or bad influence to where he’s into BDSM at the age of 13. You can talk about sexual exploration all you want but no 13-year-old should be posting these kinds of ads on craigslist.
Lastly, the boy mentions in his ad that he is under 18. If craigslist moderated their own site this ad would have never seen the light of day.
As I have mentioned before, one website that doesn’t get nearly as much attention as it should in the media is Omegle. It is the anonymous webcam chat site whose motto encourages you to ‘Talk to Strangers!’ One of the more popular search quries that lead people to my site is ‘can you get arrested for using Omegle?’ This leads me to believe that not only are predators grooming underage children on Omegle, but it’s also being used to trade child porn.
For example, 50-year-old Douglas Mehan is a former school custodian from Milford, Connecticut. He’s been arrested for allegedly using Omegle to trade child porn. While Omegle definitely appears to have a child predator issue, that doesn’t prevent them from contacting the NCMEC when they find one, and that’s exactly what they did here.
Once police caught up to Mehan he is said to have said that he only started getting into child porn within the past few months. That didn’t stop him from allegedly having 378 child porn videos on his laptop. I’m guessing that his interest in this has been for more than just a few months. These scumbags always seem to have some kind of story when they’re caught, to try to lessen what they’ve already done. In my opinion they’re justifying it to themselves as anyone else wouldn’t care how long he was viewing child porn as most would be equally appalled by his activity.
As a warning to parents, Omegle is not an app, it’s a website that can be used by any internet connected device that has a camera. This includes, smart phones, tablets and laptops. This means that there will be no app icon to look for and you would need to check your children’s browser history to see if they’ve been visiting the site.
Talk about a twisted determination. This assclown traveled for days by bus, which seems to be the preferred method of transportation for interstate child molesters, in order to basically kidnap a 13-year-old girl. God only knows what could have happened to this girl if they had made it back to his place.
Anyone who has information concerning this incident is encouraged to contact the New London Police Department’s Detective Division at 860-447-1481 or anonymous information can be submitted via the New London Tips 411 system.
By now I shouldn’t have to tell you that Kik is crawling with any number of sex offenders and pedophiles. While Kik does often cooperate with police they’re really not looking out for anyone’s kid. In our always connected world a vigilant parent is the best and in most cases the only line of defense between their kids and online predators.
Since I’ve started this website I’ve always been fascinated by the excuses that alleged criminals give for their crimes. That fascination grew after the popularity of the To Catch A Predator series when most of the suspects were asked why they were there said they just wanted to hang out.
For example take 25-year-old Krishna Royster, of Bridgeport, Connecticut. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children said they found a number of child porn images being posted to Tumblr. Investigators are said to have allegedly traced the images back to Royster’s computer. This is supposedly how Royster explained his actions to police…
When they later confronted him, police said Royster admitted uploading the images to Tumblr but claimed he didn’t have any urges to act on what he saw with children.
“He said he just tried to put outrageous things on Tumblr and the child pornography photos and videos were part of that,” police said Royster told them.
Why didn’t you say so? That makes everything ok. You’re free to leave. It really can be like listening to a 6-year-old trying to explain why the lamp is broken. There is no excusing child porn for whatever reason.
I originally posted about the shooting murder of Jesus Silva here. He was shot to death in New Britain, Connecticut, after responding to a craigslist ad for a car he was selling. Jesus Sierra, Joel Jaquez, and Idaliz Zavala-Burgos have been charged with his murder. Before I said that I did not have any information on the motive for the murder but now new warrants have been released that allege what the motive was.
Investigators believe that Silva was involved in the drug trade and was ordered to be executed after he allegedly came up short with the money he owed his supplier. So far it is unknown if the supplier is going to be charged. Silva was also said to have brokered car sales frequently and it appears that his assailants used that information to lure him to his death.
Murders have been solicited for on craigslist many times before but this is the first time I’ve heard of a victim of a contact killing being lured to his death through the online classifieds site. It seems that criminals of all forms have some kind of use for craigslist.
On December 30th of 2014 Jesus Silva of Meriden, Connecticut, was found shot to death in his car on the streets of New Britain, CT. Since his murder police have arrested Jesus Sierra, Joel Jaquez, and Idaliz Zavala-Burgos, all of Springfield, Mass., and have charged them with Silva’s murder.
Today in a court hearing it was revealed that the murder may have been a craigslist killing. Mr. Silva had an ad on craigslist selling his car. His family said that he was in phone contact with someone about his car the night of his death and police say records indicate that he was allegedly speaking to Sierra.
No word yet if the motive was robbery or something more sinister. I’ll post additional details as they become available.
Police departments can offer all the space they want for people to feel safe while transacting business through craigslist but something like this can’t be prevented unless parents make sure their kids are staying off of craigslist. Craigslist sure isn’t looking out for your kids after all.
Again I’m left asking what is it with school teachers and coaches and Snapchat? This time 57-year-old Jeffrey M. Sirois has been arrested for allegedly sending a video of himself cranking it on Snapchat to a number of teens. Sirois was a girls soccer coach for a high school in Storrs, Connecticut and yes the video is said to have gone to some of the girls on his team.
Sirois claims that he meant to send the video to his girlfriend but accidentally sent it to some of the members of his team. I’m sorry but that’s not much better. No teacher or coach should ever be friends with their students or players on Snapchat. I can’t be the only one who thinks that is inappropriate. There’s a myriad of ways for faculty to get in touch with students these days, the disappearing picture app isn’t supposed to be one of them.
I originally posted about the murder of Felix DeJesus here. The 39-year-old father of two was gunned down in 2013 while still in his car in Hartford, Connecticut. He was selling a tablet computer and went to meet the seller since the seller said they didn’t own a car. A year passed without an arrest being made although police had a person of interest.
While a lot of transactions take place through craigslist with no incident in my opinion there’s enough that end in tragedy that cause me not to use Craigslist. To me it seems like a game of Russian Roulette anytime someone uses craigslist for no matter what purpose. Eventually someone is going to get the bullet.
UPDATE 6/30/2014: Hartford police have arrested a 2nd suspect in 20-year-old Marvin Mathis. It’s unclear at present what Mathis’ alleged role was in the murder of Felix DeJesus.
UPDATE 12/1/2016:Moon is currently under trial and is believed to have allegedly taken advantage of a mentally diminished Mathis into committing the crime. Moon is facing charges of felony murder, first-degree robbery and conspiracy to commit first-degree robbery.
UPDATE 12/8/2016:Moon has been convicted of felony murder and robbery. He’s looking at 60 years at his sentencing in February.
UPDATE 5/25/2017:Mathis was found by not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect. Mathis is said to have had a history of paranoid schizophrenia and suffers from hallucinations. He will be more than likely committed to a state psychiatric facility.
How sad is it that a craigslist murder took place and it escaped my attention. I probably got it mixed up with one of the other several dozen. What’s even more sad that in that time no one has been brought to justice for the death of Felix DeJesus.
Felix DeJesus, of Hartford, Connecticut, was engaged to be married and a father of two young children. Her was selling two tablet computers on craigslist. Normally he would meet the buyers in public but this buyer said that he didn’t have a car so Felix felt sorry for him according to his fiance and the mother of his children. Sounds like a genuinely nice guy. Unfortunately someone took advantage of Felix’s big heart.
Felix was shot and killed while still sitting in his car. Hartford police have a person of interest but no arrest has been made in the year since Felix’s murder. Hopefully it’s just a case of the police dotting their I’s and crossing their T’s. I hope that Felix’s killer is brought to justice soon.
If you’re selling something on craigslist I would advise you not to. If you decide to anyway I would recommend meeting the buyer at the local police station. That should weed out a lot of potential threats.
