In August of 2011 a then 16 or 17-year-old (depending on the source) Eduardo Marmolejo stabbed Suzette York, his teacher and principal, to death in a classroom at the Memphis Junior Academy in Tennessee. This was no mere stabbing though. This was a cold and calculated murder. Marmolejo studied up on martial arts and close combat techniques prior to committing the murder. Unfortunately he was a good study because this is how the murder was described by the Commercial Appeal back in 2011…
On the day of the attack, he slipped his hands into gloves and first stabbed York’s windpipe so she couldn’t scream for help, prosecutor Reginald Henderson said. York was stabbed eight more times, in her face, chin and neck. Marmolejo then ran to the bathroom, where he washed away York’s blood, changed clothes and flushed the knife and gloves down the toilet, police said.
Marmolejo was charged as an adult.
All that I’ve ever been able to determine about the motive was that Marmolejo had some kind of school privilege taken away by Ms. York. I’ve never heard what that privilege might have been.
This past week a now 18-year-old Marmolejo pleaded guilty to the murder under a plea deal that sees him go to prison for 35 years. Supposedly he’s sorry…
“I apologize for my bad behavior,” said Eduardo Marmolejo, 18, after accepting a plea that will send him to prison for 35 years without the possibility of parole.
“It was wrong what I did,” Marmolejo during the hearing, which was broadcast by local media.
“I should not have done it, because it not only hurt Ms. York, but her family and her friends, her husband, and it not only hurt me, but my family and friends and people who take their kids to school,” he said, reading from a prepared statement.
“There is already too much violence in the world, especially in the schools. Instead of thinking and trying to help make things better, I made it worse,” he continued.
And guess what else…
The statement went on to say he was a changed person and that he had repented “and given my life to Jesus.”
I’m always amazed how these scumbags find religion after they’ve killed someone.
Well there’s an old cliché about prison and Jesus that goes something like “Your soul better belong to Jesus because your ass belongs to Bubba.”
