FBI issues warning about Yellow app

FBI issues warning about Yellow app

I initially posted about the app Yellow here. At the time of that posting I said that it reminded me of Omegle because it encouraged users to make new friends on Snapchat, you know, as in random strangers. Since that time it seems that Yellow has upped its game and turned into an almost duplicate clone of the infamous dating app Tinder. You swipe right for people you like and left for those that you don’t.

The problem with Yellow, as is with most apps, is there’s no real verification of identity, and anybody can enter any age they want. This has caused the FBI to issue a warning about the app stating that it is being used by predators. While I personally have yet to hear about an arrest made because of Yellow, that’s not to say it hasn’t happened.

I installed the app, and at first I entered my correct age upon installation, and it only allowed me to view people only as young as 18. While creepy for someone of my age, it’s still legal. However, when I reinstalled the app and entered my age as being 14, it allowed me to view the profiles of any of its users that are underage. You don’t even need a Snapchat account to use Yellow anymore.

I know it’s tough for parents to keep up with every app on their kids’ smart phones but I would recommend that parents keep their eyes out for this one. Again, I’ve included a picture of the app’s icon at right. Yep, as of right now, it’s just a yellow box.

If you think there’s no harm to your kids sharing pictures online remember this: it doesn’t take much information gleaned from the pictures of your kids for predators to find out where they live or go to school. All it takes is something as innocent as picture of them in a soccer uniform or having something with their school colors in the background of the picture, and those are only two examples.

While it has yet to reach the absurd levels of predators like Kik, if the FBI is worried about Yellow then so am I, and so should you if you have children.

FBI report says mass shootings sharply increased since 2007

crimesceneshooting

The FBI recently released a report after studying 160 ‘shooting incidents’ from 2000 to 2013. They came to the understanding that most of the shootings took place at either a school or workplace. However the most damning piece of news to come out of the study is that mass shootings have been on a very sharp upswing since 2007.

According to the report, an average of six shooting incidents occurred in the first seven years that were studied. That average rose to more than 16 per year in the last seven years of the study.

Since the report was released a lot of people have been blaming the increase in shootings on whatever their pet cause is whether it be gun culture, video games or the media. I am no different except I like to think that my pet causes make a little more sense.

Again, as the dead horse I continue to beat, a lot of these gunmen were mentally ill. While not excusing their actions it does tell us that, in my opinion, that they may be too afraid to seek treatment due to the stigma that is still placed on seeking mental healthcare in our society. Let’s be honest, if you had a friend or co-worker who confided in you that they were seeking mental health treatment for whatever reason most of you would not only look at them differently but you’d probably start going out of your way to avoid them. There;s also the other side of the mental health coin too. When does the safety of the public outweigh the ‘feelings’ of the criminally and violently insane? Because that’s what it’s come too, that we don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings by telling them they need to be committed.

The next reason is that as each year passes our society becomes more and more entitled. Too many people think that they’re special invaluable snowflakes who are owed by the world. Let me tell you something, the world doesn’t owe you shit. I had bad grades in school. Was it every teacher’s fault? No it was mine because I wouldn’t apply myself. I’ve been out of work for the better part of a year, I can’t get hired to save my life. Is that my former employers’ fault? No it’s mine and I’m trying to better myself so that I can get hired on somewhere. In either of those cases what I didn’t do is commit a mass violent atrocity. If things suck in your life there’s a good chance that it’s your fault. You can either blame everyone else or suck it up and try to do better. Killing a bunch of people shows just how incapable you are of being a rational adult.

The last reason is because of misinformation. True journalism is dead. It’s more important now to be first rather than true. After every mass shooting how much false information is spread through the internet? How much of that misinformation is believed as fact afterwards? How many mass shooters have identified with previous mass shooters because of that misinformation? The answer to all of those questions are too many.

So what’s the solution? There isn’t one. It’s too late. We’ve become a society of gullible, emotional, narcissistic and ignorant marks. It’s going to get much worse and will never get better.

ICP sues FBI. WTF?

The Insane Clown Posse Will Sue The FBI:

Last year the FBI named Juggalos as one of the most dangerous gangs in the country. Think about that for a second. The FBI, the nation’s law enforcement, supposedly the brightest minds in criminal investigation, have put Juggalos on the same threat level as Crips, Bloods and MS-13. Ninja please.

While it pains me to say this it takes brains and effort to run a large gang, something most Juggalos are severely lacking. While I have been down on the clowns as it were, having the feds classify them as a gang is an extreme waste of taxpayer money. While there are gangs of Juggalos not all Juggalos are gang members. For the most part they’re either suburban white kids with no taste in music or stoners who are so baked they don’t realize that painting your face like an idiot is for kids at birthday parties.

Having said that the band that started it all, Insane Clown Posse, are now suing the FBI to get their fans declassified as a gang. This isn’t a waste of the legal system at all. Not to mention do you really want to piss off the FBI? I’m not saying it’s right but they could make ICPs life a living hell if they wanted to.

Anyway the while situation is laughable. I would think that the FBI would have better things to do with their time like, oh I don’t know, fight human trafficking rather than picking a fight with a bunch of retarded mimes.

Whoever wins, we all lose.

FBI on Stickam

FBI calls popular new Web site for kids ‘evil’:

It seems that the FBI has the same opinion of Stickam that I do.

“I describe this as an evil page,” said FBI Special Agent Jane Brillhart, “The total webcam thing out there is just evil waiting to happen.”

According to law enforcement agents, webcam chats between strangers can lead to unwanted sexually graphic images being shown live to children or adults.

Special Agent Brillhart goes undercover looking for sexual predators. She expects future prosecutions to come from webcam complaints.

“I think this is something we’re going to start getting information on and tips from people who say there’s things happening on this page that are inappropriate,” said Brillhart.

Sadly, it’s only a matter of time.
