In non-school shooting, but equally as disturbing, news, the Dunbar Village gang rapists are back in the news. In case you’ve never heard of this story back in 2007, a group of four teens committed the home invasion of a mother and her son in the Dunbar Village housing project in West Palm Beach, Florida. The quartet not only gang raped the woman but they forced her to have sex with her 12-year-old son. The four tried setting their victims on fire, but when they couldn’t find a lighter they doused their victims in cleaning fluids to try to remove any DNA evidence. Three of them were sentenced to life and the fourth was sentenced to 30 years after turning on his friends. Two of the suspects, Jakaris Taylor and Nathan Walker, had their life sentences reduced to 60 years after the Supreme Court ruled that life sentences for teens were unconstitutional.
Of course, being reduced from a life sentence to a 60 year sentence just isn’t enough for a pair of rapists. Now their attorney is arguing for an even further reduced sentence. As usual, their argument contains the same old tired tropes…
“What the U.S Supreme Court has said is that juveniles need to be treated just as that, as juveniles. That their brain is still growing in essence that their ability to understand clearly right from wrong and control their actions is not fully formed. Their brain is not fully formed when they’re teenagers,” said Defense Attorney Gregg Lerman.
Same old, same old. If teenagers don’t allegedly have the brain capacity to realize that gang rape, forced incest, and trying to set someone on fire was wrong then they shouldn’t have the ability to dress themselves or use a fork without stabbing themselves in the eye. If anything their life sentences should be reinstated.
“They need to be punished. They need to be sentenced to prison time, but there should be some opportunity to show that they can be rehabilitated and be put back into society,” said Lerman.
What does it say to their victims to put them back into society? Their victims have to live their lives with the horrible memory of this atrocity. They shouldn’t have to worry about their assailants being back out on the streets and running into them again. Kids or not, these rapists are nothing short of monsters and don’t deserve to breathe the air outside of a prison ever again.
Back in February, a woman from Jacksonville, Florida, rode a bus to Macon, Georgia, for what she thought was an artist’s job. The man who is said to have promised her the job paid for her bus ticket. Instead of any art work, the woman was placed in a room and was told she was going to have sex with the men who knocked on the door. When the woman refused to answer the door she was reportedly gang-raped by a number of men. These men were said to be customers of Najiy Williams, the man accused of bringing her to Georgia and advertising her on Backpage.
Afterward, the men threw money on a table in the room. The woman later overheard Williams telling someone he’d made $900 off her that night.
So Backpage’s so-called claims of freedom of speech have resulted in the gang-rape of a too-trusting woman. And just where did the victim find this phony art job? Craigslist, so they’re partly responsible for this as well. So be careful when looking for work on craigslist. You never know when that job will turn out to be something from which you can’t escape without harm.
The 15-year-old Chicago girl, who was gang raped on Facebook live, was threatened with a pit bull attack if she didn’t comply or if she tried to escape. Of course it would have to be a pit bull. I’m not saying that pit bulls are inherently violent dogs, but it seems like a number of criminal types own them as some kind of ghetto/trailer status symbol.
In other news about the brutal assault, the 15-year-old suspect who turned himself in, was accompanied by his mother at the time of his arrest. It makes me wonder if the kid received a righteous ass beating by his mom before she dragged him to the cops. One can only hope.
Speaking of the 15-year-old suspect, his public defender argued that the suspect shouldn’t be charged with production of child porn, claiming that the 14-year-old was the main aggressor. Judge Patricia Mendoza had a very matter of fact response.
“The very nature that he’s in the video … one can assume he was manufacturing child pornography,” Mendoza said.
So far this has all been handled in juvenile court. I would imagine that prosecutors are awaiting the additional arrests and evidence before the teenage suspects are charged as adults. I can’t imagine them not charging them as adults as it would be a grave injustice if the alleged perpetrators were only held until their 21st birthday or less. more “Chicago gang rape victim was threatened with pit bull attack”
Chicago police have announced that yesterday they arrested a 14-year-old male in connection with the gang rape of a 15-year-old girl that was livestreamed on Facebook Live. The unnamed suspect has been charged with aggravated criminal sexual assault, manufacturing child pornography and dissemination of child pornography, all of which are felonies. So far, I have yet to see any mentions of prosecutors wanting to try him as an adult, but I can’t see why they wouldn’t.
The police also announced that they have issued an arrest warrant for a 15-year-old male they also believe was involved with the rape. They expect that individual to be arrested soon. Several other teens and at least one adult are also suspected to face charges along with whoever was working the camera at the time.
Sadly, the investigation isn’t going as fast as police would have hoped since the victim has not only been severely traumatized, to say the least, but as mentioned previously, she is also being harassed by people in her neighborhood. It’s also unfortunate that the people who viewed the video as it happened and didn’t call police can’t be traced. According to this 2015 article from the Chicago Tribune, there is no law in Illinois requiring you to call 911 if you witness a crime, which is sad in itself as everyone who viewed this video and did nothing should have to face judgment for being the heartless monsters that they are.
A 15-year-old Chicago girl was dropped off at her home on March 19th after spending the weekend with her relatives. Sometime during that Sunday, the girl went missing. She didn’t return home until the following Tuesday, but before she had been found, she had been gang-raped by up to six men as it was being broadcast on Facebook Live, Facebook’s live streaming service. Up to 40 people watched the video live and not one of them reported it to police or Facebook. A teenager was able to get the video to one of the girl’s relatives who took it to a neighborhood activist who contacted police. However, the girl’s torment did not stop there.
After the victim returned home, she started receiving threats online including threats of violence. The girl and her family have since been relocated to a safe place by Chicago authorities.
So far no arrests have been made but a juvenile was taken into custody shortly after the girl was found.
This isn’t the first time Facebook has made headlines out of Chicago with these types of crimes. Back in January, four people were arrested for allegedly broadcasting the torture of a developmentally challenged man who thought one of his attackers was his friend. Also, in 2013, prior to the advent of Facebook Live, a gang of Chicago teens raped a 12-year-old girl, then posted the video to Facebook.
I’m surprised that the Chicago papers used the term rape in their articles. Then again I guess it’s hard to say ‘have sex’ when it’s done at gunpoint but I’m getting ahead of myself.
Police in Chicago recently arrested Scandale Fritz, 16, Kenneth Brown, 15, and Justin Applewhite, 16, for the alleged December rape of a 12-year-old girl and posting the video of the rape to Facebook. The girl went to Fritz’s house and when she got there police say that Fritz raped her in his basement. Fritz then brought his buddies Brown and Applewhite down into the basement who raped the girl at gunpoint while the entire atrocity was recorded by Fritz. Fritz is said to even have turned the camera to his own face. Brown was said to have been shown waving the gun while the trio shouted gang slogans. A few days later the video was posted to Brown’s Facebook then shortly thereafter on Fritz’s and Applewhite’s
So far to my knowledge it hasn’t been made public why it took investigators 5 months to make the arrests. However Fritz has allegedly admitted to making the video.
No word yet if the trio are being charged as adults but how can they not be. These scumbags deserve to spend the rest of their lives in the hole getting their karma tickets punched on a nightly basis. Where the fuck were their parents when all this was going on too? Maybe they should be jailed as well for being parental failures.
UPDATE 11/2/2013: A fourth teen has now also been charged with taking place in the alleged gang rape. Chicago police recently arrested 16-year-old Dyquier Garrett. Garrett is accused of raping the girl after being shown the video by Fritz.
Fritz told Garrett the girl, then 12 years old, would have sex with him also, prosecutors said. Garrett went into the basement with the girl alone and forced her to have sex, prosecutors said.
The reason the arrest took so long was that the police were waiting on forensic lab results.
This past January 20-year-old Jonathan Leanos of Stickney, Illinois raped a 14-year-old girl that he met on MySpace. Not only that but he also recorded the rape on his cellphone. Still, he wasn’t done there.
He then had three friends, 23-year-old Vincente Hernandez, 19-year-old Majeed Khalifeh and 16-year-old Alex Picallo, allegedly rape the girl while again, it was recorded. To top it all off Leanos raped her once more.
Let’s dissect this for a moment. Rape is one of the worst crimes that can be perpetrated on a woman. Now imagine it happening to a 14-year-old girl, not once but repeatedly in one night. Then think about the fact that the rapes were recorded as if it were just another party video. You would think that with such a heinous crime the group would be thrown in jail with the proverbial throwing away of the key but you’d be wrong.
Khalifeh pleaded guilty in October and got six years in jail, ten years of probation and has to register as a sex offender. This past Friday Leanos and Picallo pleaded guilty. Picallo got six years in prison and Leanos got nine. Both of them also got 10 years probation and have to be added to the registry. As usual those sentences are a joke. They’ll be out in plenty of time and as I’ve shown many times before the sex offender registry is really no deterrent to offending again.
Hernandez’s case is still pending.
Is this justice? Hardly. They’ll come out with the knowledge that they’ll gain in prison with an even tougher street cred for having been inside. The victim will have to live with this all her life why shouldn’t these lowlife rapists have to do the same?
Much like his cohort Nathan Walker, Dunbar Village gang rapist Jakaris Taylor has been re-sentenced to 60 years. Taylor had been given a life sentence for his role in one of the most heinous crimes I’ve ever posted but had to be re-sentenced because of the Supreme Court’s idiotic ruling that teens could only be given life sentences in cases of murder.
Taylor and three others were convicted of gang raping a woman and making the woman’s young son having sex with her. The group also used guns and bottles to rape the woman. Why the Supreme Court doesn’t think that this isn’t worthy of a life sentence is beyond me. They just keep giving criminals more rights than their victims. As I have said before the woman and her son will have to live with this for the rest of their lives. So should the perpetrators regardless of their age.
If you’ve never heard of the Dunbar Village case it’s one of the worst stories I’ve ever posted if not the worst.
Back in 2007 a group of teens pulled a home invasion of a mother and her son in the Dunbar Village housing project in West Palm Beach, Florida. Not satisfied with just robbing them the group not only gang raped the mother but forced her son to have sex with her. Then they threw cleaning products on them in order to try to get rid of any DNA evidence.
Four teens were arrested for the atrocities. Three of them got life sentences. A fourth, Avion Lawson, got 30 years. Lawson got 30 years because he rolled on his homies otherwise he probably would have met the same fate.
Now Lawson is saying that his sentence was unfair because he claims he was forced to rape the woman at gunpoint by the group’s leader, Tommy Poindexter.
Tough shit. The gang rape of a mother where six suspects have never been brought to justice is unfair. The emotional scarring that her son will probably have for the rest of his life is unfair.
Now that I think about it 30 years is unfair. It should have been much more. He knew what he was getting into.
It’s been a long time since I last posted about the Dunbar Village gang rape. In case you’re new here back in 2007 a group of kids gang raped a woman in the Dunbar Village housing complex in West Palm Beach, Florida. Not only was she gang raped but they forced her young son to have sex with her and then doused them both with cleaning fluids to try to destroy evidence.
Nathan Walker was 16 at the time he committed the crime. He was charged as an adult and sentenced to life in prison. However the U.S. Supreme Court struck down this sentence stating that juveniles should only be sentenced to life in cases of murder. So Walker will now receive a new sentence.
Apparently the Supreme Court thinks that gang rape and forced incest is not worth a life sentence. I would imagine most of my readers would think it deserves a death sentence no matter his age. The Supreme court is sending the wrong message by negating the life sentence. You won’t go to jail for life kids as long as you don’t commit murder. Everything else is fair game though.
UPDATE 8/4/2011:He got 60 years. The judge says it was the closest to life that he could be sentenced to.
