Grisly details released in Oklahoma craigslist killing

Grisly details released in Oklahoma craigslist killing

Baker and Garcia-Boettler

I initially posted about the murders of Alize Smith and Jarron Moreland here. Back in April, the two 21-year-olds from Moore, Oklahoma, were shot and killed during a craigslist gun sale gone wrong. Their bodies were found days later, weighted down in a pond. 22-year-old Kevin Garcia-Boettler and 43-year-old Johnny Barker were charged with their murders. Also charged was Garcia-Boettler’s 16-year-old brother who has now been identified as Brett Boettler who has been charged as an adult. 40-year-old Crystal Rachelle Boettler, the mother of the two brothers, has been charged as an accessory after the fact.

After allegedly shooting the two victims in their van, the Boettler brothers took their victims to their mom’s home where Barker, Mrs. Boettler’s boyfriend, is said to have helped the brothers dispose of the bodies. Reports are also now saying that Smith’s and Moreland’s bodies were dismembered before being thrown into the pond.

According to court documents, detectives found the White Chrysler Town and Country van which was seen during the shooting, at the Boettler home.

After looking inside, they found “cleaning products and a power washer around the vehicle,” “dried blood spatter on the ceiling of the van” and “a bucket of water with a chainsaw bar inside and soaking in the water along with several jigsaw blades.”

Again, all this senseless violence could have been prevented if craigslist had only moderated their own site for illegal gun sales. Selling firearms is against their terms of service, but they refuse to enforce it.

Two Okla. men killed during craigslist sale

Two Okla. men killed during craigslist sale

Baker and Garcia-Boettler

Just because craigslist removed its personals section doesn’t mean it’s any safer. Last weekend, two men, 21-year-olds Alize Smith and Jarron Moreland, went missing in Moore, Oklahoma, after witnesses saw them being taken into a van. Moreland’s family claimed that he was meeting someone to sell something through craigslist. Sadly, the bodies of Moreland and Smith were found weighted in a pond earlier this week. Three suspects have been arrested and charged in their murders, and they are 22-year-old Kevin Garcia-Boettler, 43-year-old Johnny Barker, and the 16-year-old brother of Garcia-Boettler.

According to police, Moreland and Smith were said to be selling a gun on craigslist and the trio of suspects were meeting with the two men to purchase the gun. Once Moreland and Smith approached the suspects’ van, one of the suspects claims they heard a gun being cocked by one of the victims. This resulted in one of the suspects firing on the two men, killing them both. Tragically, this could have all been prevented.

Craigslist’s terms of service forbids firearms from being sold or traded on their site, yet it happens all the time. The problem with craigslist is the usual one as they hardly ever do any kind of moderation on their site for any kind of illegal items or sales. Instead, they rely on their users to flag any kind of inappropriate ad, the same users who are posting the illegal ads to begin with. This is akin to the inmates running the asylum. Craigslist has the ability to screen for ads like this as they have done so in the past with unlocked iPhones when that was still illegal. Yet they allow guns to change hands without even batting an eye.

A gun is a coward’s weapon

A gun is a coward's weapon

I’m done. For 18 years I stood up for the rights of ‘responsible’ gun owners but no more. After yesterday’s school shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School that left 17, mostly children, dead, I reached my breaking point. While I realize that shootings like this are part of the plane crash principle, where you only hear about the planes that crash and not the ones that make it safely, if there had been three plane crashes with massive losses of life since the beginning of the year, you bet your ass there would be calls for regulation against the airline industry. Yet when it comes to guns we just throw our hands up and go ‘What can we do, it’s in the Constitution.’ You know what else was in the Constitution: slavery, prohibition, and denying women the right to vote but all of those have been changed. Now it’s time to change the Second Amendment which hasn’t been changed in centuries. I’m not talking about gun control, I’m talking about gun eradication. Sorry to you responsible gun owners, but the bad apples have spoiled the bunch. No grandfather clauses and no exceptions. But you hunt? Too bad. Welcome to bow season motherfucker.

And don’t give me that shit about Nazi Germany stripping their citizens of weapons. You’re not living in Nazi Germany. This is the modern-day and if you can’t recognize that the landscape has changed since then, you’re an idiot. “But what if we need to defend ourselves against the government?” You mean the government that hasn’t come after you in over 200 years? Bitch, please. If the government wanted to become a dictatorship there’s no amount of guns that compares to those owned by the US Military. Plus you sound you like should join one of those whack job militia groups that hole up in the woods. Speaking of militias you’ll say that the Constitution guarantees that we’re entitled to a well-regulated militia. What do you think the National Guard is?

I still believe that the main causes of school shootings are lack of sufficient mental healthcare, the stigma of seeking psychological help, and the over-inflated sense of entitlement these cowards have. But what else do they all have in common? The gun. But since most of you also think that healthcare isn’t a right and should be expensive, fewer people who need it aren’t getting the treatment they should.

Also, some of you thinks the solution to that is to arm teachers. That’s one of the stupidest ideas I’ve ever heard. Sure, let’s put even more guns in our schools. I’m sure teachers will act like perfect automatons when it comes to the handling of firearms and not one will be lost or misused.

The gun is not a multipurpose tool. It’s only purpose is to destroy whatever is put in front of it. Another argument I hear is that baseball bats are used to kill people and they’re still legal. Baseball bats can’t be swung 45 times a minute or used from a distance of hundreds of feet away or from a window that is ten stories up.

I’m also sick of the good guy with a gun myth. Where do you think most bad guys with guns get theirs? Either purchased legally or stolen from a ‘responsible’ gun owner. Let’s also talk about the overly used ‘Guns don’t kill people’ trope. While it does take a person to pull the trigger of a gun to kill someone, the gun makes it a whole lot easier to do so. Then there’s the ‘If guns are outlawed only outlaws will have guns’ trope. You’ve got to start somewhere and it seems to be working ok for Australia, who banned guns after the Port Arthur massacre and has seen a steady decline in homicides since enacting the legislation.

Do I think that police and military should be disarmed? No. Don’t be ridiculous. However, most of the police and military go through a career’s worth of training to learn how to handle their weapons in highly volatile situations. While they’re not always perfect, they do a hell of a lot better job than most armed civilians who sometimes can’t even clean their guns without shooting themselves or a loved one.

Have I pissed you off? I don’t care. You’re clinging to a belief that died when the US became a military superpower. You no longer have to worry about King George trying to tax your tea. Your thinking is fossilized and belongs in the dustbin of history. Want to unfriend me? Fine, then obviously our friendship wasn’t that strong. Want to stop reading my site? That’s fine too. Have fun wrapping yourself in your comfortable little bubbles on Facebook where you only commiserate with people who think exactly like you. God forbid you should step outside of your narrow world view. Call me a liberal communist if you want. I was registered Republican until 2016 whereas now I’m officially unaffiliated with any party. They both suck for their own reasons.

In summation, guns suck and serve no purpose in modern society except for inflicting death.

We get letters: What to do about a possible gun owning ex-con

I received an e-mail not too long ago about a person who was featured on this site many years ago. The person in question committed a crime as a teen but was charged as an adult and was sentenced to prison time. Unfortunately, they weren’t sentenced to much prison time and they are now out of prison. This person is now the legal age to own a gun and they live in a gun friendly state. Back to the e-mail.

The e-mail I received was from someone who claimed that the person in question committed an armed crime against them. The matter is said to have been investigated by police but no arrest has ever come from it. Unfortunately, without a public record of arrest there’s not much that I can do about as far as making it public knowledge however, I did a little digging. I went to the Facebook of the person in question and it’s very pro 2nd-Amendment and anti-government. That’s their prerogative and all but I have yet to meet anyone that pro-gun without owning one. If memory serves me correctly people convicted of felonies in this country, no matter which state, are ineligible to own firearms for the rest of their lives. As far as I know the conviction has not been expunged.

So my question to you dear reader is this, what can be done at this point to ensure the safety of the community around this former felon who is possibly in possession of firearms?

Woman buys guns off of craigslist for 15-year-old son

Police in Grants Pass, Oregon, have arrested a 15-year-old boy who allegedly made threats against police and local schools and wanted to get into an armed confrontation with police. When police searched the boy’s home they reportedly found…

…three guns, several ballistic vests, a Kevlar helmet, ammunition, miscellaneous law enforcement badges and a tactical baton…

That’s not even the scariest part of this story. Much like in the vein of Nancy Lanza and Oregon’s own Laurel Harper, it was the boy’s own mother who is said to have bought the guns and vests for him off of craigslist.

Before we get to the obvious questions let me address the craigslist aspect. According to craigslist’s own list of prohibited items, guns are not supposed to be sold on their website. Since they don’t actually moderate their site it goes on anyway. I bet you they would have changed that policy if this kid had killed someone. Craigslist are the kings of closing the barn door after the horses have gotten out.

Now on to the question that’s on all of our minds. What kind of person would buy guns, more than likely illegally, and bulletproof vests for their 15-year-old. What in the blue hell did she think he was going to use them for? Most importantly, why has she not been arrested?

Too many people who don’t deserve the title of parent are coddling these special snowflakes who are nothing less than psychopaths and being excused of the actions that they helped initiate.

AZ woman trades daughter for gun

Woman Accused of Trading Daughter for Gun:

That is 33-year-old Tanya Nareau of Mesa, Arizona. She’s been arrested for allegedly trading her 2-year-old daughter for a gun.

Police received a tip and found the girl at a friend’s house who confirmed that the girl as traded for a gun. Nareau allegedly said that the friend could take better care of the girl and Nareau could not legally buy a gun because she’s banned by law.

I’m guessing that she didn’t need the gun for law abiding purposes and I am assuming that the reason she was banned from owning a gun was from a previous run in with the law.

Since she’s being held in Maricopa County Jail I am sure she is not having a fun time.

Md. man punches daughter in the face, pushes son in leg braces down stairs

Man Pushes Son in Leg Braces Down Steps, Punches Daughter, Threatens Wife:

I think we have a contender for father of the year here.

Christopher Donnie Smith Sr. of Lexington Park, Maryland allegedly punched his 16-year-old daughter in the face repeatedly and pointed a gun at her. He’s also accused of pushing his 13-year-old son who wears leg braces down a flight of stairs. He also pointed a handgun at his wife and said that he had nothing to lose and would make her famous.

It makes me wonder how guys like this are able to get married in the first place.

I’m sure we’ll hear about how he’s really a nice guy though.

12-year-old killed when gun being cleaned by dad went off

Boy, 12, killed by gun being cleaned by dad:

12-year-old Ian Dunn died this past Tuesday after being struck by a round that discharged from a gun his father was cleaning. Kevin Dunn claims that the gun was stored for a long time and he had forgot that the gun had a round in it.

Police are still investigating but they say it appeared to be accidental.

I’m not going to jump on Mr. Dunn because he has to live with what happened.

But when you store a gun aren’t you supposed to make sure that it’s unloaded?

Parents, if you have guns and kids in your house please take every precaution possible to avoid accidents like this.

Thanks to Kathy for the tip.

Needle found in crib on Maine drug raid

Drug bust finds needle in child’s crib:

A drug raid on a Holden, Maine trailer park ended in the arrest of 21-year-old Scott Knowles and 26-year-old James Smith. Police found 2 lbs. of pot, a loaded gun, a few grand in cash and Knowles’ 4-year-old son.

On top of that they found a needle and a spoon and in the child’s crib. I think we all know what that means.

The child was returned to his mother.

Look at the mugshots while you’re at it. This comes as no surprise looking at these two.

Thanks to Stacey for the tip.

OKC man used scoped rifle to kill daughter

Affidavit: Scoped Rifle Used To Kill Girl, 6:

That’s it. There’s too many idiots with guns and kids out there that I’ve created a category strictly about guns. I don’t have a problem with people who legally own guns. I do have a problem with people who use them so irresponsibly that some one ends up injured or dead.

For example take 23-year-old Matthew Peoples of Oklahoma City. He claims he accidentally killed his 6-year-old daughter when he pointed his scoped rifle at his daughter, Denise Anderson, and pulled the trigger forgetting that he had loaded the rifle the day before. I don’t know why he would then dump his daughter’s body outside of town but here we are.

Let’s just take his story at face value even though I don’t believe it. What is with some people who treat guns as a joke? I have never owned a gun in my life and I don’t plan to. But even I know that you always treat a gun as if it we’re loaded.
