Back in March, two different fathers were arrested in the San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles for the alleged school shooting plots of their sons. In the home of a 16-year-old, two revolvers, one semi-automatic handgun, a rifle and 90 rounds of ammunition were found to be unsecured in the home. In the home of a 17-year-old, police are said to have found a loaded semi-automatic handgun unsecured in a bag. Both teens had threatened to shoot up their respective schools. Both fathers were arrested on charges of unlawful firearms storage.
Since Columbine I’ve been saying that parents need to be held more responsible for what takes place under their roofs. How many times have kids like this have gotten their guns from parents who either gave them the guns or improperly stored their guns around the home and didn’t even notice they were missing? That’s a rhetorical question. The answer is too many. If these kids had gone on to kill using their parents’ guns, how could we not hold the parents responsible?
Maybe if we had started pressing criminal charges against the parents of school shooters who allowed the shootings to take place, parents of future shooters would have gotten involved in their kids’ lives and prevented further bloodshed.
Registered sex offender and possible missing link Christopher Coates, 41, of Carpinteria, California, recently pleaded not guilty in a Los Angeles court to allegedly making and receiving child porn on mobile messaging app Kik. Coates is no stranger to the world of child porn as he was previously convicted of child porn twice and for sexually assaulting a disabled female at a home for the disabled where he worked. Obviously those ‘harsh’ jail sentences and ‘rehabilitation’ didn’t have an effect on this one not to mention his time on the registry. Then again he is just a caveman pedophile and our world frightens and confuses him. Sometimes when he gets a message on Kik he wonders if little demons got inside his phone and typed it.
I originally posted about the craigslist murder of Rene Balbuena here. He was shot and killed on the streets of L.A. in front of his 15-year-old son. He was lured to his death by someone who was supposed to be selling him a cell phone. Instead two people allegedly fired into Balbuena’s car, killing him and grazing his son.
The suspects were at large until late last week when 17-year-old Ryan Roth and 18-year-old Markell Thomas were arrested and charged with Balbuena’s murder. Police say that they both belong to a branch of the infamous Bloods gang and are allegedly connected with a series of craigslist armed robberies using the same M.O. Roth is being charged as an adult.
Here’s how police say it went down…
Thomas allegedly jumped in the backseat of Balbuena’s car and pointed a gun at the victim’s 15-year-old son, demanding property.
Balbuena stepped out the car and was shot multiple times in the torso, allegedly by Roth, who was waiting outside the car.
Rene Balbuena and his 15-year-old son were sitting in his car on the streets of Los Angeles waiting for a craigslist seller who was going to sell them a cellphone. Instead two men came up to the car and started shooting killing Balbuena and grazing his son. As of this posting the suspects were still at large.
This murder snapped a 10 day streak of 10 murder free days in Los Angeles.
I’ll post more details as they come available and since this happened in a media-centric city like L.A. maybe this will shed some much-needed light on the inherent dangers of doing business on craigslist.
Last week 18-year-old Abraham Lopez stabbed his ex-girlfriend, 17-year-old Cindi Santana, to death in the lunchroom of South East High School in Los Angeles.
My guess is this macho douchebag lived by the ‘If I can’t have you no one can’ credo considering that 3 days prior to Cindi’s murder Lopez was released from jail after being arrested for making threats against her. I’ll get into more of that in a second.
I’m not sure how this came about but police thought that Lopez may have planted a bomb in the Santana’s family car so the parking garage at the hospital had to be evacuated.
The high schools in our country have declined into nothing but coed prisons where anybody can be shanked on any given day and do you know whose fault it is? The parents of these thugs who refuse to do anything about their violent kids. Lopez got out of jail after somebody paid the $50,000 bail. Who do you think probably paid that bail to get their stabby little snowflake out of jail?
It’s not going to get better either. With each generation we become a more trashy and violent society and eventually the bad will outnumber the good and violent crime will spread to every corner of our country.
I used to be a fan of Lenny Dykstra when he played for the Phillies but once he left I didn’t follow him much. From what I understand he’s had his fair share of controversy since then. I think this one tops them all.
Dykstra is accused of exposing himself in his Los Angeles home to several women that he allegedly met on craigslist. It wasn’t any of the usual dark corners of craigslist where Dykstra placed the ad. according to police Dykstra placed an ad on craigslist looking for a housekeeper/personal assistant. Dykstra allegedly told the women that the job would entail massages at which point Dykstra is alleged to have exposed himself. This is one step above the guys who pretend they need their diapers changed.
What’s a matter Lenny? Are you that broke that you can’t find yourself a gold digger?
It just goes to show even if you’re semi-famous you can still be a craigslist creep.
We get a lot of feedback asking for more stories that have happy endings. Normally the stories we post on this site have very tragic outcomes but being in the spirit of the season, albeit belated, we have this story out of the City of Angels.
In Los Angeles on Christmas Eve a woman turned over an hours old newborn to a fire station. The baby was healthy and nicknamed Noel by the fire fighters for obvious reasons.
In California a baby can be brought to a fire station or hospital within 72 hours without the parent being charged.
This story has actually made me think of something. In the past we’ve talked about how there are safe haven laws in most states if not all of them however the laws need to be advertised better. My New Year’s resolution is to post more of these stories where a child was safely and legally taken to a safe haven to let people know that there are all alternatives to injuring or killing a newborn.
If we can get just one person to take a baby to a safe haven rather than dumping it we’ll have done our job.
Police in Los Angeles arrested 34-year-old Leroy Bragg after they found him allegedly prostituting a 13-year-old girl. The girl was able to use a cell phone of a good Samaritan to contact her parents who contacted the LAPD. The girl was being held against her will so Bragg is being charged with kidnapping as well.
LAPD discovered in their investigation that Bragg was also holding a 14-year-old girl against her will and forcing her into prostitution as well. They believe that Bragg may have had dozens more victims.
Anyone with information is asked to call LAPD Det. Hector Sanchez at (213) 486-0957. After hours they can call 1-877-LAPD-24-7. For those wishing to remain anonymous, the Crime Stoppers number is (800) 222-TIPS, or (800) 222-8477.
Tipsters may also contact Crime Stoppers by texting to phone number 274637 (C-R-I-M-E-S on most key pads) using a cellphone. All text messages should begin with the letters “LAPD.”
And you may think that only the children that are being prostituted are being held against their and you would be wrong. Many adult women are also held against their will by traffickers and pimps and are kept that way through violence, rapes and threats. By soliciting a prostitute you are giving these criminals more ways to keep these women against their will.
Police in Los Angeles arrested 35-year-old Samuel Francisco (yes kids, his name is Sam Francisco) for allegedly kidnapping and sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl that he met on MySpace.
Police say that Fransisco lured the girl away from her middle school and took her to another location where she was sexually assaulted.
Apparently L.A. takes this kind of thing very seriously as the Internet Crimes Against Children Unit, Major Crimes Detectives, Secret Service Agents and Immigration Custom Enforcement Officers all went to Fransisco’s residence to get the girl back and to arrest Francisco. That must have been the biggest can of whupass on the other side of his door.
Fransisco may have had other victims as well.
Anyone with information about this crime is asked to contact Los Angeles Police Department’s (LAPD) Internet Crimes Against Children Unit, Lieutenant Andrea Grossman at (562) 624-4028 or 1-877-LAPD-24-7.
I originally posted about Kevin Dale Pierce here. Back in 2007 the then 33-year-old Pierce was arrested for posing as a 19-year-old art student from UCLA soliciting nude pictures from underage girls over MySpace. When he was arrested he told police he did not believe he was breaking the law as long as he did not meet the girls in person. Because apparently he thinks that California must not have child pornography laws.
And it seems that they may not as Riverside Superior Court Judge Mark Mandio gave Pierce probation after he pleaded guilty to…
…two counts each of annoying or molesting a child under 18 years old and communicating with a minor with the intent to commit a specified offense and 25 counts of bringing into the state matter depicting a child sexually.
When he was first arrested police sound they found several external hard drives yet all he gets is probation. See Canada, I’m not just picking on you.
So this scumbag poses as a 19-year-old ‘art student’ to get nude pics from underage girls and all he gets is probation. Good job Judge Mark Mandio, you set loose another dangerous predator back on the internet.
