As I’ve said in the past, too many people think that sex trafficking doesn’t happen where they live, and that it only happens in big cities. Have you ever heard of Auburn, Maine? I didn’t until I read this story. According to Wikipedia, the city has a population of roughly 23,000. That didn’t keep one man from violently forcing a woman to sell herself on Backpage.
A 57-year-old Auburn man was indicted this week, accused of raping a local woman, forcing her into prostitution and beating her with a gun, hammer and dinner plate in November.
And that is only the tip of the bloody iceberg.
Minor is also accused of allegedly beating the woman with a belt before tightening the belt around her throat. He is also said to have pistol whipped her in a fit of jealous rage. Kind of ironic that someone who forces a woman to have sex with other men would be jealous. He is also accused of striking the victim in the back of the head with a hammer after she woke up, and smashing a plate over her head after punching her. When the victim was finally able to make it to a hospital for her injuries Minor is said to have shown up at the hospital looking for her. Other women had ‘worked’ for Minor as well so God only knows what he did to those women too.
This story, which is sadly only one of many, should show you a number of things. The first is that human trafficking is happening everywhere, yes, your town too. The second is that this is obviously not a victimless crime, unless you consider violent assaults and rape victimless. Lastly, this is not an ‘industry’ of women who chose this way of life as many would have you try to believe. This woman, this victim, is more the rule than the exception no matter how many sex workers will tell you that they don’t know anyone who is being trafficked against their will. Those people are either turning a blind eye to the brutality before them to justify the way they make money, or are being trafficked themselves, and are just repeating a line that their pimps have told them to say.
Let’s also not forget that Backpage made their money off of this woman’s blood and pain in the name of ‘free speech’.
47-year-old Curtis H. Moody, of Whitfield, Maine, was in jail on domestic violence charges but didn’t think his cunning plan through when it came to posting his bail. Moody is accused of calling a woman and allegedly ordering her to prostitute herself on craigslist in order to raise bail money for him. He reportedly told the woman to “get it done tonight” but of course, since he was making the call from jail the call was recorded. When the woman was questioned’ she claimed that the craigslist ad was for dates with men, but not sex. You know, like what every pimp tells their prostitutes to say. One could even wonder if the domestic violence was committed against the same woman he tried to prostitute for his bail, or possibly even another woman who Moody could have been trafficking. Pimps normally don’t get women to work for them like that by asking nicely. Violence against the women that are trafficked like that is usually a way of life for them. Think about that the next time someone uses the phrase ‘consenting adults’.
Back in 2013 Kyle Dube of Maine was arrested in the disappearance in death of 15-year-old Nichole Cable. The then 20-year-old Dube used a fake Facebook profile under the name of a friend of hers to lure Nichole to a wooded area where he abducted her while disguised in a ski mask. Dube’s plan was to stash her somewhere, wait for an undisclosed amount of time, then act as her rescuer. He duct taped Nichole and tossed her in the back of a pick up truck. Somewhere during the transport Nichole died of asphyxia due to compression of the neck. Dube buried her body under some leaves in the woods and her body wasn’t discovered until weeks later.
Early in March Dube was convicted of Nichole’s murder and kidnapping. During the trial Dube’s defense attorney tried to shift blame to Dube’s ex-girlfriend who allegedly hated Nichole but the DNA evidence and Dube’s own confession to a fellow inmate was overwhelming.
Dube is looking at 25 to life on the murder charge and 30 to life for the kidnapping. Hopefully those sentences will be consecutive and not concurrent.
UPDATE 5/10/2015: This past week Dube was sentenced to 60 years for Nichole Cable’s murder and 30 for her kidnapping. The only problem is the sentences are concurrent. According to the judge Maine case law did not allow her to sentence him to consecutive sentences. I’d rather see him rot for 60 years then get out on some legal loophole so kudos to the judge for erring on the side that keeps this moron in jail for as long as possible.
No grown man should ever be in a Justin Bieber themed chatroom, ever, for any reason. Unless you happen to be an online predator which 29-year-old Benjamin Mahoney of Wales is. Mahoney used the Bieber themed chatroom on Tinychat to groom two girls from Maine that were ages 11 and 12. For those of you unfamiliar with Tinychat it is a chat room service that incorporates webcams.
After gaining the girls trust he intimidated the two girls to perform sex acts on each other and if they refused he would threaten to post the videos on the web. The girls eventually went to their local police and through the help of the Department of Homeland Security they were able to track Mahoney down to the home he shared with his mother. Go figure. Mahoney was only given five years for his deeds.
First off as I keep saying no child under the age of 18 should have a webcam unless it’s to Skype to Grandma under parental supervision. If you allow your kids to have webcams like this not only do you have to worry about the predator in your town but predators worldwide as this shows. Lastly please tell your kids that no adult online is to be trusted especially if they’re in an age inappropriate room like teen pop star chat room. If they’re in there they are only up to no good.
This past week the medical examiner in Maine released the cause of death for 15-year-old Nichole Cable. Dr. Margaret Greenwald released a statement saying that Nichole died from asphyxia due to compression of the neck.
If you’ll recall Nichole died during an alleged staged kidnapping scheme using a fake Facebook account perpetrated by 20-year-old Kyle Dube. Investigators say that Dube tied Nichole up and put her in the back of a pick up truck where she died.
I’m no forensic expert but compression of the neck makes it sound like that she was strangled somehow. Whether it was due to Dube manhandling her in the attack or the way he tied her up remains to be seen.
Either way Dube is an idiot for coming up with a plot that should have been prefaced with the phrase ‘it’s so crazy it might work’. No, they never work. Leave that shit for bad sitcoms. In the real world people get hurt and die.
UPDATE 6/18/2013: Dube’s public defender is asking for a psychiatric evaluation for his client to see if Dube is competent to stand trial. I don’t think being a selfish predatory dumbass is the same as mental incompetence.
No, the crime didn’t happen recently. Even with its most recent revamp no one is using MySpace these days.
Anyway a 41-year-old man was charged with sexual abuse of a minor for having sex with a 15-year-old girl and impregnating her four years ago in Palermo, Maine. I bet you think you caught me for using the phrase ‘having sex’ instead of statutory rape didn’t you? Well, the suspect in question is using the ‘I thought she was older’ defense and for once I don’t think he’s lying.
The man met the girl on MySpace and she began to help him out with his children and other chores around the house. Apparently sexy time happened and nine months later a MySpace baby was born. The woman, now 19, says that she has DNA testing that shows there is a 99.9% chance of the man being the father. Here’s the kicker. The man isn’t denying paternity and is cooperating with police.
In this one instance from the surface it appears that the man did not really know the girl’s age. Whether it was by deception it’s unknown but let me stress this story is the exception and not the rule.
According to additional information released today police say that 15-year-old Nichole Cable remained friends with her alleged killer, Kyle Dube, even after an alleged sexual assault.
According to an affidavit the night before she went missing Nichole Cable was allegedly assaulted by Dube. Reports say that he tried to kiss her, groped her and even left a bite mark on her. Remember that Dube is 20-years-old. That’s not kosher in any US jurisdiction.
The affidavit also says that Dube, posing on the fake Facebook account as Bryan Butterfield, lured her out of her home with the promise of free weed.
Cable nevertheless remained friendly with Dube, continuing to text him on May 12. She told Dube that she was meeting a man named Bryan Butterfield to get a “free 20 bag.”
Cable expressed reservations about meeting Butterfield at the end of her dirt road, asking Dube “is it alright to be a little scared?” Dube texted back, “No I wouldn’t be.”
This should serve as a couple of lessons that parents need to discuss with not only their daughters but sons as well.
If any person continues to make unwanted sexual advances toward your kids even after they have said no they are not your friend and never will be. They only want one thing and will obviously use any means to get it. The second lesson should be this is why underage kids should not get mixed up with drugs and alcohol. Not only is it legal and getting caught with it could mess up their futures but also they are weapons in the sexual predators arsenal. How many “To Catch A Predator” episodes had guys showing up to the house with weed and alcohol besides the candy and fast food?
Another thing I want to bring up is previously I was under the impression that Nichole’s body was found the day after her disappearance. That was incorrect on my part. Her body wasn’t found for another week. So this child creeping assclown knew her body was out in the woods while her family, friends and community were desperately searching for her holding on to the faintest glimmers of hope that they would find her alive while all along he knew that she was death as his hands over his idiotic ‘hero’ plot.
Maine has no death penalty but I think they should bring back some colonial New England type justice for this scumbag.
In case you couldn’t tell I’ve been a week or two behind in posting stories. I try to post them in order which is why it was two weeks later that I posted last night about the disappearance and murder of 15-year-old Nichole Cable. Today I’ve tossed out that personal rule because of what information has come out about her murder.
Today in an affidavit released by Maine State Police it’s alleged that her suspected killer, Kyle Dube, kidnapped Nichole in order to ‘rescue’ her. The affidavit was previously ruled to remain sealed until Dube’s indictment and he was indicted today. Why he wanted to do this is unknown at this time but if I had to hazard a guess it may have been some kind of idiotic ploy of his to get out of his jail sentence for eluding police.
The affidavit states that Dube used a fake Facebook account to lure her into the woods where he abducted her while wearing ski mask. He then duct taped Nichole and put her in the back of his father’s pickup truck. Somewhere between the abduction point and Dube’s destination Nichole died. I can’t even imagine the fear that she must have been going through being bound and thrown in a truck not knowing that her abductor was someone who she may have considered a friend. Later Dube dumped Nichole’s body in the woods and covered it up with branches. At this time the cause of Nichole’s death has not been made public. The fake Facebook account that Dube is said to have used was in the name of Bryan Butterfield who is an actual friend of Nichole’s. Facebook was able to track the fake account to Dube’s home. The actual Butterfield told investigators that Dube had previous sexual advances rejected by Nichole. That doesn’t surprise me in the least. Maybe his hero ploy was so that Nichole would be come romantically infatuated with Dube after her ‘rescue’.
So either way Nichole’s life was more than likely slowly taken away from her body because of scheme this assclown probably got off of some idiotic TV show or movie. He should be dropped in the middle of some God forsaken third world hell hole where black bag kidnappings are a common occurrence and let him see how the professionals do it. Of course with the knowledge that there will be no ransom and there will be no rescue and have the life slowly drained from his as it was Nichole.
15-year-old Nichole Cable of Glenburn, Maine went missing on May 12th. At the time of her disappearance her family thought that she may have been lured away from her home by a man on Facebook using the alias of Bryan Butterfield. The Facebook profile in question was deleted shortly after Nichole went missing. Tragically this story does not have a happy ending as Nichole’s body was found the next night.
Charged in her murder was 20-year-old Kyle Dube. He was due to report to jail the Friday after her body was found for trying to elude police on a motorcycle at speeds in excess of 100 MPH. Friends of Nichole say that she knew Dube and that the two had planned to see each other the weekend before Dube was to report to jail.
Other details in the case have not been made public because a judge has sealed an important affidavit in the case because Dube’s lawyer is worried about pre-trial publicity. However one of the prosecutors has said that social media did play a role in the case but did not elaborate.
My thoughts, prayers and condolences go out to the friends and family of Nichole Cable.
If it turns out that Facebook or any social media is a non-factor in the story I will still continue to post about it as details become available.
