Hawaii sex predator gets slap on the wrist

Internet sex predator gets one-year term under plea agreement:

I originally posted about Matthew Cargill here. He was one of the first sex offenders I posted about 3 years ago. Cargill, from Hawaii, posed as a 16-year-old boy named Nico in order to meet a 15-year-old girl whom he sexually assaulted. Cargill was 29 at the time.

Even though Cargill has prior convictions for indecent exposure, open lewdness, and harassment by stalking he only gets 1 year for the assault and 5 years probation. Way to send a message to sex offenders.

Once he gets out it will only be a matter of time before he’s back in prison.

Mr. A Reports II

Mr. A brings another treasure trove of MySpace profile goodness…or in this case evil.

First up is one of the first stories I ever posted here. It was about Patrick Phelan who was arrested for propositioning a cop who he thought was a 14-year-old girl. His MySpace is here according to Mr. A. Now, why would a 42-year-old man have two 17-year-old girls as his MySpace friends?

Mr. A also brings us this story about the international child porn sting that happened recently and how Paul Roy Peters IV, 19, of Sebring, Florida was busted in that sting. Here is his MySpace profile. That would explain why someone going into the Air Force would have a pink bunny background.

Two weeks ago I told you about Matthew Cargill, a 29-year-old from Honolulu who posed as a 16-year-old on MySpace named Nico to lure a 15-year-old girl and sexually assaulted her. Could this be that Nico?

Mr. A, shining the light of truth into the dark crevices of MySpace.

Another Hawaii Arrest

Another Suspected Internet Predator Nabbed:

A third sexual predator has been arrested in Hawaii while using MySpace to select his prey…

(KHNL) — It’s another frightening reminder of the dangers lurking on the internet. A Waikiki man is in police custody, accused of sexually assaulting a girl he met on-line.

It’s at least the third time in one month that Honolulu police have made this type of arrest. That’s three different men who are suspected of turning their on-line relationships, with minors, into sexual ones.

“The fact that we have three now so far this year gives us reason to be very concerned about it,” Capt. Frank Fujii, Honolulu Police Department, said.

Officers arrested Matthew Cargill Sunday. Police say the 29-year-old posed as a 16-year-old boy on MYSPACE.COM, and arranged to meet with a 15-year-old girl.

The victim told investigators the suspect sexually assaulted her in his car, near the U.H. Manoa campus. Police recovered the suspect’s car in Waikiki.

Officers arrested Cargill for investigation of two counts of first-degree sex assault, five counts of third-degree sex assault, and one count of electronic enticement of a child.

Court records indicate Cargill has prior convictions for indecent exposure, open lewdness, and harassment by stalking.

Since he was using a fake profile I was unable to find his MySpace profile.

This should serve as a warning to that the person that they’re chatting with on MySpace may not be who they seem and as a warning to parents to what their children may be up to online.
