Late last month, Federal investigators arrested 18-year-old Michael Bryant Marin of Port Chester, New York, for allegedly sexually exploiting a 13-year-old girl through the mobile messaging app Kik. Sexually exploiting is putting it mildly as Marin is said to have harassed his victim into committing explicit acts against the New Mexico girl’s will.
As is the norm with a lot of these stories, Marin is said to have posed as a minor, using the screen name ‘mike___2016’ in order to gain the girl’s confidence before requesting she send him nude photos. Once Marin received the photos he reportedly tried blackmailing the victim into sending more explicit photos and videos, even requesting a video where he demanded the victim to commit an act of bestiality.
The FBI believes that Marin may have more victims…

Even glossing over the bestiality request, a sentence I’d never thought I’d ever type, I can already tell some of you are saying that the age difference between Marin and his victim isn’t that bad, and you’d be wrong. Even if we were talking about physical contact, no Romeo and Juliet laws in the U.S., to my knowledge, cover an age gap of 5 years, and even if this girl was old enough to consent to sex, any explicit images taken of someone under 18 is considered child porn. So save it for someone who cares.
As I usually close these stories, Kik is rife with sex offenders and pedophiles, and they run the gamut in age. While 13-years-old is the minimum age allowed on Kik, talk to your kids about what should be considered proper behavior before one of these predators does.
