25-year-old Cora Lynn Watkins has been arrested in Houston, Mississippi, for allegedly abandoning her newborn baby in a storage shed. She allegedly gave birth alone, left the baby wrapped in a blanket then returned to work. Luckily some children heard the baby crying. The article states that the kids got some family members but it’s unclear, to me at least, if they were Watkins’ family members. Either way the baby was taken to the hospital and at last report is doing well.
However this isn’t the first time that Watkins has done something like this. She was arrested back in 2010 for abandoning a baby at a Salvation Army. She received probation for that offense and was just released from probation last month. I doubt this time she’ll be so lucky.
It may have been a while since we discussed this but baby dumping like this is so unnecessary. All 50 states have Safe Haven laws where you can drop a newborn off safely with no questions asked. Specifically in Mississippi you can drop a newborn up to 3 days old at a hospital, adoption center, emergency room or EMS station.
Once again I have to ask are the safe haven laws so unknown that this keeps happening?
Normally lately I’ve been posting the sentences of criminals in the same posts of their convictions because it saves me a lot of time. Not this time. This sentence however does require a blog post of its own.
You’ll remember the story about Christopher M. Spiehler from Slidell, La. He’s the child raping scum who raped an 11-year-old girl that he met on VampireFreaks and then dumped her in Mississippi.
In my last post about Spiehler I posted that he was convicted and was scheduled to be sentenced on the 13th of October and I mentioned that I hoped the 13th (yesterday) would be his unlucky day. Boy was it ever.
Yesterday Spiehler was sentenced to a mandatory life sentence for the rape of the girl. In addition to that he received 100 years for the child porn that cops found on his computer. That’s consecutive too, no concurrent bullcrap here.
“Possession of child pornography is not a victimless crime,” State Judge Peter Garcia said from the bench. Children were hurt to create the images, he said, and a demand for them will ensure “exploitation of children in the future.”
Of course his lawyer plans to appeal…
Spiehler’s attorney, William Alford, said he plans to appeal.
“I have all the respect in the world for the judge,” he said. “But I think it was an extremely harsh penalty. There is going to come a time when the taxpayers are not going to be able to afford all these people being sentenced to life in prison.”
You know what’s harsher? Raping an 11-year-old girl. If my taxes are being raised to house child rapists for life I will happily pay it.
I originally posted about 30-year-old Christopher M. Spiehler of Slidell, Louisiana here. He was one of two men who raped an 11-year-old girl on the same day. Spiehler is the one who met her on VampireFreaks then dumped her in Mississippi after raping her.
Last Wednesday Spiehler was convicted of aggravated rape, simple kidnapping and 20 counts of child pornography. It seems that after police nabbed him they found child porn on his computer.
Spiehler originally told police he thought the girl was 18 but when confronted with the girl’s age he told police that “She can make her own choices” and about having sex with her he said “Maybe it would relax her.” Keep in mind she was 11 at the time.
He’s looking at a mandatory life sentence when he’s sentenced on October 13th. I really hope that will be his unlucky day.
UPDATE 10/7/2011: The second rapist, 21-year-old Sean Robertson of Waveland, Miss., pleaded guilty.. He raped the girl after she was dumped in Mississippi by Spiehler. The thing is he was only convicted of statutory rape. The girl was 11-years-old at the time. How the hell can that be statutory? He did get 25 years though.
In Flowood, Mississippi police have arrested two men believed to have had sex with a 15-year-old that they met on craigslist.
25-year-old William Crisler and 25-year-old Justin White have been both been charged with statutory rape of the teen boy. Crisler was found in a car with the boy in a library parking lot.
The boy had placed an ad on craigslist looking for sex which begs two questions. The first is where the hell were this kid’s parents in allowing their kid to post sex ads on craigslist. Secondly where was the much vaunted craigslist community policing to flag this ad. Even if the kid didn’t post his age on the ad, which still probably wouldn’t have gotten the ad flagged, I’m sure there was probably some code words use to indicate that he was underage.
When will craigslist learn that you can’t let the inmates run the asylum?
Finster over there is 29-year-old Christopher M. Spiehler of Slidell, Louisiana. He’s accused of the statutory rape of an 11-year-old girl from Tammany Parish that he met through VampireFreaks.
Let’s get this out of the way first. No 11-year-old should be on VampireFreaks let alone any other social networking site.
The girl allegedly told Spiehler that she was running away so he picked her and took her across state lines into Mississippi. There he ‘allegedly sexually assaulted’ (raped) the girl and left her at gas station.
While at the gas station police say she was picked up by 21-year-old Sean Robertson of Waveland, Miss. who took her back to his place and raped her as well.
What are the odds?
And there is no way in hell that the ‘She said she was 18 excuse’ is even plausible in this case. There is no way an 11-year-old girl can look 18.
These scumbags are nothing more than child molesters. How can a 29-year-old man possibly be physically attracted to an 11-year-old girl?
They should be charged with child molestation instead of statutory rape not that either charge will probably get them any real jail time.
In the tiny town of Poplarville, Mississippi on October 10, 2005 12-year-old Ashley Andrews missed the bus to school. What real parents would do at that point would be to drive their kids to school. Even if they didn’t have a car they could arrange for someone to take the kids to school.
Not Ashley’s family. Ashley lived in Poplarville with her mom Christina Dillard, her stepfather Shaun Dillard and half brother Kyle Dillard. Rather than try to get Ashley to school they beat her with tree limbs, a belt and a fishing rod. Rather than letting her go to school the next day they kept her home in fear of the abuse being reported. That didn’t stop the beatings though. The next day she had hair pulled out during the beating and the autopsy showed that she was killed that day due to manual strangulation. The autopsy also revealed that she had been sexually assaulted.
Shaun Dillard was sentenced to life without parole. Christina Dillard recently pleaded guilty to negligent manslaughter and she’s facing 20 years.
Police in Jones County, Mississippi wanted to talk with Chris Hurtt after his young child, age and sex unknown, ingested chemicals used in the manufacturing of meth. So he did was all responsible parents do in this situation and turned himself into police. Nah, just kidding. He lo9cked himself in a trailer. Police finally arrested him without incident.
You know the only thing missing from this story to complete the trailer trash trifecta is a certain breed of dog.
