Milwaukee man faces charges of sex trafficking:
34-year-old Antoine Williams of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, was recently arrested for allegedly prostituting a 19-year-old woman on Backpage in Nashville, Tennessee. I was actually going to pass on this story since it’s impossible for me to post about every sex trafficking story that takes place on Backpage. That was until I read how Williams was captured.
The victim used what the article called the state’s little-used human trafficking hotline. In case you were wondering like I was it’s 1-855-55-TNHTH and they have a Facebook page here.
First off, every state should have a human trafficking hotline if not a federal one to help people escape and secondly it should be openly posted in all hotel rooms.
Police: Man Posts Fake Craigslist Job, Rapes Applicant:
This is another story that happened lat last month that I’m catching up on. Just because there’s been an unfortunate amount of school violence lately doesn’t mean that I’ve forgotten about you craigslist. As long as you continue being the online haven of scum and villainy that you are I will never forget.
In Nashville, Tennessee police arrested 38-year-old Timothy Story for the alleged rape of a woman. Police say that Story placed a false ad for a receptionist position on craigslist and repeatedly raped a woman who responded to the ad during a fake interview.
Here’s the thing. Job ads on craigslist are paid ads if my memory serves me correct. So for any future would be rapists out there this leads a trail right back to you. However it further proves that no section of craigslist is safe when it comes to violent criminals and sexual predators. You’d probably be safer taking your resume to your local crack house.
Hopefully his new cellies will be sticking to their Story.
Craigslist Meeting Ends with Deadly Shooting:
30-year-old Joshua McLean was shot and killed on Saturday night in Nashville, Tennessee. McLean and his brother were meeting two other men as McLean was selling two of his guns on craigslist. McLean’s guns were recovered and were not used to shoot him. The suspects are at large.
It is against craigslist’s own terms of service to sell firearms on their site. Now tell me that they don’t need to moderate their site.
More on this as details become available.
UPDATE 9/24/2013: A year later and still no arrests have been made.
Man, Two Teen Girls Arrested In Prostitution Sting:
When there’s not a craigslist news story that doesn’t capture my attention, which is rare, the Village Voice Media owned backpage is always there to pick up the slack.
37-year-old Tyree Walker of Macon, Georgia was arrested in Nashville, Tennessee for allegedly prostituting two 17-year-old girls on backpage. Police set up the usual sting and charged him with trafficking for sexual servitude.
The girls were from Georgia and Virginia. Since he crossed state lines with minors wouldn’t he be able to be charged by the feds if they wanted to? Personally I’d rather see him serve his time in a Tennessee state prison than a federal one. Hopefully whatever jurisdiction he falls into will give him a real sentence and not some lame less than 20 years crap. You can’t combat human trafficking unless you put the traffickers away for a long time.
Woman Arrested in Murder Case:
To my knowledge this is the first post I’ve made that links a murder to the Village Voice Media owned Backpage.com.
The body of Jiro Kanazawa was found in a Nashville motel. He allegedly responded to a backpage ‘escort’ ad placed by 21-year-old Courtney Hambric. Kanazawa was shot and killed after an alleged burglary attempt. Police in Nashville have arrested Hambric but police are looking for Harold Doss and Christopher Doss and a third unidentified man.
No matter what side you are on of a prostitution transaction you are taking your life in your hand.
In typical fashion I haven’t seen any comments from Village Voice Media. Nor have I seen the mainstream media coming down on backpage like they have on craigslist, not that craigslist doesn’t deserve it. Also no headlines decrying these suspects as The Backpage Killers.
I received an e-mail from Michael who was looking for a condo in Nashville and found one that was too good to be true. When he e-mailed the ‘seller’ this was the response he got.

So we can add Marcie Anderson to the list of fake scammer names.
Michael e-mailed Mrs. ‘Anderson’ back and then ‘she’ requested the usual personal information for identity theft purposes. Michael did not e-mail her back of course and he notes that the ad was removed the day after.
Let’s go over the red flags again…
- Broken English: The apartment is much available for now.
- Christian Mission: If there were as many Christian missionaries as they claim to be on craigslist the entire continent of Africa would be Christian.
- Africa: Especially Nigeria, the birthplace of internet scams.
- Asking for money sight unseen: It doesn’t matter how desperate you are for a place, never rent without seeing the inside of the place first.
And remember the old saying applies true even more with craigslist, if it looks too good to be true it probably is.
