Former school janitor charged with trading child porn on Omegle

Former school janitor charged with trading child porn on Omegle

Douglas Mehan

As I have mentioned before, one website that doesn’t get nearly as much attention as it should in the media is Omegle. It is the anonymous webcam chat site whose motto encourages you to ‘Talk to Strangers!’ One of the more popular search quries that lead people to my site is ‘can you get arrested for using Omegle?’ This leads me to believe that not only are predators grooming underage children on Omegle, but it’s also being used to trade child porn.

For example, 50-year-old Douglas Mehan is a former school custodian from Milford, Connecticut. He’s been arrested for allegedly using Omegle to trade child porn. While Omegle definitely appears to have a child predator issue, that doesn’t prevent them from contacting the NCMEC when they find one, and that’s exactly what they did here.

Once police caught up to Mehan he is said to have said that he only started getting into child porn within the past few months. That didn’t stop him from allegedly having 378 child porn videos on his laptop. I’m guessing that his interest in this has been for more than just a few months. These scumbags always seem to have some kind of story when they’re caught, to try to lessen what they’ve already done. In my opinion they’re justifying it to themselves as anyone else wouldn’t care how long he was viewing child porn as most would be equally appalled by his activity.

As a warning to parents, Omegle is not an app, it’s a website that can be used by any internet connected device that has a camera. This includes, smart phones, tablets and laptops. This means that there will be no app icon to look for and you would need to check your children’s browser history to see if they’ve been visiting the site.

Va. Beach suspect caught with +5000 child porn images

Va. Beach suspect caught with +5000 child porn images

David A. Campbell

63-year-old David A. Campbell of Virginia Beach has been charged by federal authorities with allegedly possessing over 5000 images of child porn. Authorities were tipped off by the NCMEC twice when it came to Campbell. Once by Microsoft since he was allegedly using his MSN email account to trade child porn and another time by Tumblr who noticed comments allegedly made by Campbell where he claimed to have molested 10-year-old boys. Campbell even claimed that he used the private message feature on Twitter to trade child porn but was locked out of his account. He even said that he didn’t think Twitter monitored private messages. If you think anything on the internet isn’t monitored by someone you’re in for a surprise.

Campbell reportedly said that his Tumblr comments about molesting boys was only ‘fantasy talk’. If history is any indicator he may wish he had molested boys since molesters seem to get lesser sentences than those who trade in child porn.

Backpage CEO no-shows Congressional Hearing

Backpage CEO Carl Ferrer

Backpage CEO Carl Ferrer

In case you’re wonder why I defaced the picture of Backpage CEO Carl Ferrer I used to do the same thing back in the day with Craigslist CEO Jim Buckmaster before they closed down their erotic services section. I thought it would be only fair to do the same thing to Ferrer.

Anyway we’re not here to talk about my childish attention seeking ways. We’re here to talk about Mr. Ferrer himself. It seems he was subpoenaed to appear before a Congressional committee that is investigating sex trafficking on the internet. He declined to appear. The committee is possibly seeking contempt charges against Ferrer.

So where is he you may ask? His lawyers state that he is on international travel. I wonder if that happens to be to a country that has no extradition treaty with the U.S. Backpage’s parent company, which may either be SPECTRE or HYDRA, are located in The Netherlands which does have an extradition treaty with the U.S.

Backpage’s legal mouthpiece Liz, McDougall, who has also gotten the Jim Buckmaster treatment in the past, compares the committee’s investigation to that of McCarthyism. Except, you know, for the fact that the people accused by McCarthy weren’t making tons of money over children and women being sold for sex.

Lastly for those of you who say Backpage is actually helping to combat the trafficking of children, and there are people who say that, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children seems to disagree…

“It seemed they were more interested in trying to publicly claim a partnership with (the center) on the issue rather than reducing the sale of children on their website,” said Yiota Souras, the senior vice president and general counsel for the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, who said the company refused to implement many of the center’s suggestions for stopping child sex trafficking.

She said in some cases, the company refused to take down ads even when family members pleaded for them to do so. She quoted an email to the company where a mother asked that her 16-year-old daughter’s ad be taken down. “For God’s sake, she’s only 16,” the mother pleaded.

Souras said there were more restrictions on ads to sell pets or motorcycles than there were to sell sexual acts.

Getting back to the matter at hand does anyone have any guesses where he went and will he come back to the US willingly or in hand cuffs? I hope it’s the hand cuffs so he can experience just a modicum of the humiliation that the girls and women trafficked on his website feel.

Child porn poster just wanted to put outrageous things on Tumblr

tumblr

Since I’ve started this website I’ve always been fascinated by the excuses that alleged criminals give for their crimes. That fascination grew after the popularity of the To Catch A Predator series when most of the suspects were asked why they were there said they just wanted to hang out.

For example take 25-year-old Krishna Royster, of Bridgeport, Connecticut. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children said they found a number of child porn images being posted to Tumblr. Investigators are said to have allegedly traced the images back to Royster’s computer. This is supposedly how Royster explained his actions to police

When they later confronted him, police said Royster admitted uploading the images to Tumblr but claimed he didn’t have any urges to act on what he saw with children.

“He said he just tried to put outrageous things on Tumblr and the child pornography photos and videos were part of that,” police said Royster told them.

Why didn’t you say so? That makes everything ok. You’re free to leave. It really can be like listening to a 6-year-old trying to explain why the lamp is broken. There is no excusing child porn for whatever reason.

NCMEC reports Kik child porn perv to police

James Miller

James Miller

As I have posted before the Kik messaging app is a tool of the trade for pedophiles and predators. Not only is it used by predators to groom and lure kids but it’s also used by child porn purveyors to trade child porn among them. That’s not to say that Kik isn’t actively reporting such activity.

For example there is 40-year-old James Miller of Lincoln, Arkansas. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received a tip that child porn was allegedly being traded through Kik which led to Miller’s arrest. A lot of times the NCMEC receives these tips from the website’s or app’s administrators as they have in the past from sites like Tumblr and Omegle.

So if you’re a predator or child porn perv don’t think that you’re not being watched or the app or website won’t report you because they will.

More child porn posted on Tumblr

tumblr-icon

Why do so many pedophile scumbags feel the need to post child porn to Tumblr? Do they really think that no one is going to report them? Tumblr is owned by tech giant Yahoo who have received enough bad publicity about predators in their old chat rooms. They don’t need any more bad press over something like that. In previous instances of Tumblr child porn, Tumblr has reported it to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. People have been arrested for this.

For example there is 44-year-old John D. Corr of Phoenixville, Pennsylvania. He was recently arrested for allegedly posting child porn to Tumblr. As you might expect his arrest came after Tumblr contacted the NCMEC who in turn contacted police. Corr is said to have been in possession of over 100 child porn files.

During the execution of a search warrant, police said, they recovered a HP Pavilion Slimline computer, an external hard drive, a thumb drive, “numerous zip disks” in plastic containers, and CD’s.

Zip disks? Really? 1992 called.

Anyway don’t think that you’re slick thinking you’re not going to get away by posting child porn to Tumblr. They will find it and they will report you. Instead just go ahead and turn yourself in if you have child porn and make it easy for police. You’re going to be caught eventually anyway.

Fla. teen charged with posting child porn on Instagram

Collier man posts child porn on Instagram:

Sean Michael Rodriguez

Sean Michael Rodriguez

Before we get started you can unwad your panties. This isn’t a story about some dumb kid sharing nude selfies of himself with his girlfriend. We’re talking about actual child porn here.

18-year-old Sean Michael Rodriguez or Naples, Florida has been arrested for allegedly posting child porn on Instagram. Now why would someone do so something as stupid as that? I asked the same thing. Since I never used Instagram I had no idea that users can create groups and limit access to who sees their pictures. So how did he get busted? It turns out that Instagram actually checks for things like child porn. A company that actually moderates what their users post? *GASP* It’s the end of freedom of speech as we know it. Sorry, I was being sarcastic about a few other sites who don’t moderate for things like this.

Instagram notified the NCMEC who in turn contacted police. Rodriguez is said not to have taken the pictures himself but the pictures are said to be extremely graphic.

MySpace getting serious about safety?

National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, the Advertising Council and MySpace Partner to Promote Online Safety:

The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children(R) (NCMEC), the Advertising Council and News Corporation, parent company of Fox Interactive Media and MySpace, announced today a joint effort to promote online safety through the deployment of a series of national public service advertisements (PSAs). The PSAs, part of an ongoing Ad Council campaign, will begin running today through News Corporation’s broad network of distribution channels, and are designed to raise awareness about Internet safety and education.

Sponsored by NCMEC and created pro bono by ad agency Merkley + Partners, the PSAs are designed to educate parents and guardians about measures they can take to better protect their children online, and to educate teens on how to be smart and maintain safe online relationships. The PSAs direct parents, guardians, and teens to visit http://www.cybertipline.com to learn about safe and responsible use of the Internet, as well as how to report threats.

The PSAs will air on primetime on FOX, and across Fox Interactive Media’s network of websites including MySpace, FoxSports.com, IGN.com, Fox.com, AmericanIdol.com, Rotten Tomatoes and AskMen. The PSAs will also air on the 28 Fox Networks Group broadcast, cable and satellite services. Fox broadcast and cable networks running the campaign will include FOX, FX, National Geographic channel, Fox Movie Channel, Fox Reality, FUEL TV, FSN, SPEED, Fox College Sports Atlantic, Fox College Sports Central, Fox College Sports Pacific, Fox Soccer Channel and (in Spanish) on Fox Sports en Espanol. All Fox-owned-and-operated regional sports networks will likewise televise the PSAs. Additionally, Fox All Access radio and the New York Post will run the campaign.

Normally I would say this is just a PR move on Newscorp’s part but I have tremendous respect for the NCMEC.

Hopefully, this will make parents more aware of what’s going on online but excuse me if I don’t hold my breath.
