Grisly details released in Oklahoma craigslist killing

Grisly details released in Oklahoma craigslist killing

Baker and Garcia-Boettler

I initially posted about the murders of Alize Smith and Jarron Moreland here. Back in April, the two 21-year-olds from Moore, Oklahoma, were shot and killed during a craigslist gun sale gone wrong. Their bodies were found days later, weighted down in a pond. 22-year-old Kevin Garcia-Boettler and 43-year-old Johnny Barker were charged with their murders. Also charged was Garcia-Boettler’s 16-year-old brother who has now been identified as Brett Boettler who has been charged as an adult. 40-year-old Crystal Rachelle Boettler, the mother of the two brothers, has been charged as an accessory after the fact.

After allegedly shooting the two victims in their van, the Boettler brothers took their victims to their mom’s home where Barker, Mrs. Boettler’s boyfriend, is said to have helped the brothers dispose of the bodies. Reports are also now saying that Smith’s and Moreland’s bodies were dismembered before being thrown into the pond.

According to court documents, detectives found the White Chrysler Town and Country van which was seen during the shooting, at the Boettler home.

After looking inside, they found “cleaning products and a power washer around the vehicle,” “dried blood spatter on the ceiling of the van” and “a bucket of water with a chainsaw bar inside and soaking in the water along with several jigsaw blades.”

Again, all this senseless violence could have been prevented if craigslist had only moderated their own site for illegal gun sales. Selling firearms is against their terms of service, but they refuse to enforce it.

Two Okla. men killed during craigslist sale

Two Okla. men killed during craigslist sale

Baker and Garcia-Boettler

Just because craigslist removed its personals section doesn’t mean it’s any safer. Last weekend, two men, 21-year-olds Alize Smith and Jarron Moreland, went missing in Moore, Oklahoma, after witnesses saw them being taken into a van. Moreland’s family claimed that he was meeting someone to sell something through craigslist. Sadly, the bodies of Moreland and Smith were found weighted in a pond earlier this week. Three suspects have been arrested and charged in their murders, and they are 22-year-old Kevin Garcia-Boettler, 43-year-old Johnny Barker, and the 16-year-old brother of Garcia-Boettler.

According to police, Moreland and Smith were said to be selling a gun on craigslist and the trio of suspects were meeting with the two men to purchase the gun. Once Moreland and Smith approached the suspects’ van, one of the suspects claims they heard a gun being cocked by one of the victims. This resulted in one of the suspects firing on the two men, killing them both. Tragically, this could have all been prevented.

Craigslist’s terms of service forbids firearms from being sold or traded on their site, yet it happens all the time. The problem with craigslist is the usual one as they hardly ever do any kind of moderation on their site for any kind of illegal items or sales. Instead, they rely on their users to flag any kind of inappropriate ad, the same users who are posting the illegal ads to begin with. This is akin to the inmates running the asylum. Craigslist has the ability to screen for ads like this as they have done so in the past with unlocked iPhones when that was still illegal. Yet they allow guns to change hands without even batting an eye.

Bever brother to drop insanity defense

Bever brother to drop insanity defense

The Bever house in 2015

Michael Bever’s defense team recently announced they would not be pursuing an insanity defense for their client. In 2015, a then 16-year-old Michael Bever, and his then 18-year-old brother Robert, stabbed and killed their parents, 52-year-old David Bever and 44-year-old April Bever, in their Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, home. However, they didn’t stop there. They also killed their siblings, Daniel, 12, Christopher, 7, and Victoria, 5. Surviving the attack was 13-year-old Crystal, who had been stabbed, and 2-year-old Autumn who was unharmed. The motive the brothers allegedly gave for the killing spree was they wanted to be ‘more famous than Columbine.’ In 2016, Robert Bever pleaded guilty to murder in order to avoid the death penalty and was sentenced to five life sentences without parole. Michael Bever has been charged as an adult in the murders.

Bever’s defense contends the parents were committing psychological child abuse which is not totally out of the realm of possibility. However, that doesn’t explain why they killed their brothers and sister as well. Not to mention that according to their surviving sister, the duo was allegedly planning the murder at least a year in advance.

Previously, the defense has tried saying Michael only went along with the murders because he was scared of his brother, but investigators say that Robert feigned he was in danger in order to get his siblings to open the door to the room where they were hiding so they could be killed.

Michael Bever’s trial has been delayed a number of times, but it looks like it’s finally set to start on April 16th. Unlike his brother, since he was a juvenile at the time of the crime, Michael Bever is not facing the death penalty. With any luck, he’ll receive the same sentence his brother did.

UPDATE 5/9/2018: Michael Bever was convicted in the five murders of his family members.

Reward renewed in Carina Saunders murder

Reward renewed in Carina Saunders murder

This past Friday, it was six years since the remains of 19-year-old Carina Saunders were found inside a duffel bag behind a store in Bethany, Oklahoma. Also this past Friday, the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation renewed the $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of Carina’s killer. This reward has been offered multiple times in the past but has to be renewed after 90 days according to state law. Also, $10,000 is the maximum reward that can be legally offered in the state of Oklahoma.

Many theories abound as to why Carina was murdered and dismembered. The prevailing thought is that Carina was somehow involved with human trafficking, and was killed to make an example. Several suspects have been previously arrested for her murder but charges were dropped, however charges could be refiled at a later time if any conclusive evidence indicates those suspects were involved.

Earlier this year, police seized items, which belonged to Carina, from a home where Carina was last seen alive. The person who owned the home was believed to have prostituted Carina but maintains his innocence. State investigators also believe there is a cell phone video of Carina’s murder in someone’s possession.

Infant who ‘fell off bed’ had injuries consistent with crash

injuries consistent car crash

Ezekiel Hadithy

A gravitational anomaly must have happened in Tulsa recently since a nine-month-old infant is now brain-dead after ‘falling off a bed’. Doctors who examined the child said the injuries the child sustained were consistent with that of being ejected from a car during a high-speed collision or falling from a third story window onto concrete. So obviously the magnetic poles of the Earth must have drastically shifted recently to cause such velocity and impact from such a short height. Or we could have a lying sack of crap boyfriend.

38-year-old Ezekiel Hadithy was living with the baby’s mother at a motel in Tulsa. When the baby ‘fell off the bed’ Hadithy had allegedly woken the mother and said he found the baby like that. After police started investigating, Hadithy is said to have changed his story to where he supposedly ‘dropped’ the baby on the motel laundry room floor. So either the bed was on a third story ledge or the motel laundry room doubled as a crash test facility.

You may think you’re smarter than police and doctors, but you’re not. They have years of training and experience on how to recognize child abuse and you’re a lugnut who lives in a motel room. Maybe instead of trying to fabricate a situation that couldn’t have possibly happened, call 911 immediately and maybe this baby could have had a fighting chance.

Former Okla. State Senator Ralph Shortey indicted

Former Okla. State Senator Ralph Shortey indicted on child porn charges

Ralph Shortey

I originally posted about former Oklahoma State Senator Ralph Shortey here. Back in March, he was caught in a motel with a 17-year-old boy he met through craigslist, who Shortey was allegedly paying for sex. When asked about the situation, Shortey reportedly said “he was just there to hang out with his friend.”

More recently, Shortey was indicted in Federal Court on child porn charges along with the charge for child sex trafficking. Shortey is believed to have traded child porn on a social networking app of a prepubescent girl. He’s also accused of producing child porn by requesting an underage victim to send him explicit images over said social app. According to the indictment, the app used was Kik, but that’s for another website.

However, Shortey was released on a mere $5,000 bond. Why? If he was any other Joe Pedophile off the streets he’d probably be held on bond of at least $100,000 or more. I guess even disgraced state Senators still hold some sway even if they’re allegedly a sexual predator.

UPDATE 11/30/2017: Shortey has pleaded guilty to child sex trafficking. He is scheduled to be sentenced net year. He’s looking at 10 years in federal prison.

Trial delayed in the Bever family murders

Trial delayed for 16-year-old who helped killed his family

The Bever house.

In July of 2015, 18-year-old Robert Bever and 16-year-old Michael Bever allegedly stabbed and killed their father, 52-year-old David Bever, their mother, 44-year-old April Bever, brothers Daniel, 12, and Christopher, 7, and their sister, 5-year-old Victoria. Thirteen-year-old Crystal, who had been stabbed, and two-year-old Autumn survived. The two brothers allegedly killed their family so they could be ‘more famous than Columbine’.

The elder Bever brother was sentenced to five life sentences without parole after pleading guilty in order to avoid the death penalty. Michael Bever has been charged as an adult and his trial was delayed back in May to start this past August. However, his trial has been delayed again. The trial has been rescheduled due to a new attorney being assigned to Bever, but that’s not what I want to talk about.

The defense is arguing Michael Bever was under the influence of his older brother and feared for himself if he did not carry out his brother’s orders. Except the way the younger Bever helped kill his family betrays that defense completely, in my opinion.

Authorities also say Michael, who was 16 at the time, even banged on the office and bathroom door, where younger siblings were hiding, and begged to be let in, because he feared he would be killed. Police say when the children opened the doors, they were murdered.

That doesn’t sound like someone who feared his brother to me. That sounds more like a psychopath who took great enjoyment in killing his own family for no other reason but trying to be famous. The surviving sister even said the two brothers were talking about committing murders up to a year before the crimes occurred. Some people would argue his brain wasn’t developed enough to realize the repercussions of his actions. If someone his age doesn’t realize killing most of his family isn’t wrong then they really have no business being in society anyway.

Family catches alleged predator in homemade sting

Family catches alleged predator in homemade sting

A story is making the rounds that a family in Del City, Oklahoma, caught an alleged online predator in a homemade sting. The father was using parental software when he is said to have caught his 13-year-old daughter having a sexual conversation with a 33-year-old man. It wasn’t made clear what platform was being used to perpetuate the ‘relationship’.

The father posed as his daughter and invited the man to their house. When the man showed up he was greeted by a number of family members who tackled the man to the ground and zip-tied him until police could arrive.

I’m torn about this story because on the one hand I completely commend this father for taking the precautions to monitor his daughter’s online activity. However, in no way do I ever recommend capturing a suspect yourself. In a number of cases, online predators have been known to be armed when captured in police stings. In a sting conducted by untrained civilians, if a suspect is armed, it could have grave consequences.

What you can do if you find your child in a similar situation is to record everything, write everything down, and leave the actual capturing to the police.

Thanks to Lady Gray for the tip.

Oklahoma woman accused of sending explicit Snapchat to teen boys

Oklahoma woman accused of sending explicit Snapchat to teen boys

Jennifer J. Hemstreet

(Story broke 4/27/2017)

46-year-old Jennifer J. Hemstreet, of Enid, Oklahoma, was arraigned back in late April for allegedly sending explicit pictures and videos on Snapchat to two teen boys, ages 15 and 17. The 17-year-old was sent nude images of the woman, while the 15-year-old received similar images and explicit videos of her. You see, it’s not just teachers that creep on Snapchat, middle-aged women do too. Speaking of which, since she’s not a young blonde bombshell she’ll probably have the book thrown at her.

This is just another reason why you should not only know what apps your kids are using, but who’s on their friends list as well.
