31-year old William Craig Bluedog of Sioux Falls, South Dakota is a convicted sex offender. His previous crime was the aggravated sexual abuse of a 12-year-old boy. That didn’t keep him from allegedly soliciting a 15-year-old boy through craigslist.
Police say that Bluedog placed an ad on craigslist looking for a “young boy to come over and dance for a 29-year-old male”. Bluedog is said to have communicated with a 15-year-old boy for a month through e-mails. Obviously pedophiles are very dedicated to getting what they need. When I was single if a girl bored me after 15 minutes I moved on but I digress. He even went as far to asking the boy to sneak out of his house.
The boy turned out to be a police detective and when they went to arrest Bluedog he crashed into a squad car before fleeing. Police did not pursue but caught up him later.
This past week Bluedog was indicted on charges of child solicitation and eluding authorities.
This story shows us a few things. The first is that child molesters can’t be rehabilitated and should be kept out of society. Secondly it shows what kind of creeps are trolling the personals and casual encounters sections of craigslist. Lastly that craigslist obviously doesn’t give a damn what happens to the people who are victimized through these sections.
With the removal of the adult/erotic service section these sections must be the main traffic driving source if their site. A classifieds site should tout itself on its safety not how many pedophiles and rapists it has.
31-year-old Megan Marie Hayes and her boyfriend, 27-year-old Brandon Quincy Thompson, have both pleaded guilty to their parts in running a child prostitution ring in Tea, South Dakota on the pages of the Village Voice Media owned backpage.com.
Hayes is only looking at 5 years but Thompson is looking at 15 to life. Again I’d be surprised if Thompson’s sentence was closer to 15 than life. It seems that federal prosecutors are more concerned about making deals than doing anything real to stop child prostitution.
I originally posted about the good doctor Joshua Payer here. He was arrested for using the service of an alleged child prostitution ring that was run off of the Village Voice Media owned backpage.com. The ring was allegedly run in the tiny town of Tea, South Dakota by Brandon Thompson and Megan Hayes.
Anyway Dr. Payer has pleaded guilty to child sex trafficking charges. He’s looking at a possible life sentence and will not know his fate until February 25th of 2011 but get this. He is free on ‘supervised release’ until his sentencing. So you’re going to tell me that a man with obvious disposable income is not a flight risk? Whatever. If that comes back to bite the court in the ass I’ll be here to say I told you so. However considering that one of the alleged pimps, Megan Hayes, was released to her daddy’s custody I’m not really surprised.
The courts need to stop treating child traffickers like this is some kind of scoff law case if they want to send a message to other traffickers.
Oh Backpage. Just because there has been a craigslist media storm lately don’t think that I’ve forgotten about you.
Anyway 35-year-old Dr. Joshua Payer of Sioux Falls, South Dakota has been arrested and charged with child trafficking since he used the services of an underage prostitution ring that was being run on the Village Voice Media owned backpage.com. If that sounds slightly familiar it’s because that’s the same backpage prostitution ring that was being run by Brandon Thompson and Megan Hayes of Tea, SD that I’ve posted about before.
Payer is accused of using the services of 16 and 17-year-old prostitutes. He’s also been charged with writing phony oxycontin prescriptions for Thompson.
His request for a pre-trial release was denied. For once a judge doing his job. He’s looking at 80 years behind bars.
The reason you don’t hear a lot about backpage is they’re run by Village Voice Media that also owns several newspapers including The Village Voice. A theory that has been proposed to me that I tend to agree with is the reason backpage stories don’t make the news as often because other media outlets are afraid to step on the toes of another.
Backpage is just as equally culpable for human trafficking as craigslist. If you read any of their publications you are supporting human trafficking.
It seems that the victimless crime almost claimed another type of victim.
26-year-old Brandon Quincy Thompson is one of the people who got busted for backpage.com human trafficking and child prostitution in Tea, South Dakota. Now he’s been indicted for trying to have two of the witnesses against him killed. Considering the witnesses may be some of the kids that he pimped out that makes this ‘victimless’ crime even double heinous.
Again still no pressure from the media on the Village Voice media owned backpage.com.
I originally posted about Megan Hayes here. Along with her boyfriend, Brandon Quincy Thompson, the pair from Tea, South Dakota have been federally charged with pimping out underage girls on the Village Voice Media owned classified site Backpage. The pair is looking at life sentences for their alleged acts.
So it kind of puzzles me why Hayes was released into the custody of her father in Davenport, Iowa.
Hayes has no prior criminal history, and her father, brother and a neighbor from Tea testified that Hayes was a shy, reliable person who prefers staying home with pets to leaving the house.
I’m sorry but shy and reliable people don’t participate in child prostitution rings. I wouldn’t be surprised if she bolted while out on release.
The article details the ‘changes’ that craigslist has gone through and also details one Philip Markoff who the media dubbed the craigslist killer. However I want to share a few quotes with you.
Backpage.com, a site based in Scottsdale, Ariz., and owned by Village Voice media, has yet to implement such changes. The site has 1.7 to 2.2 million unique page views each month. Representatives of the company did not return calls for comment.
Free-speech advocates argue for self-policing, saying too many ads are posted to expect forum owners to monitor each one.
“The notion is that the soapbox shouldn’t be held responsible for what the person on the soapbox says,” said Matt Zimmerman, a lawyer with the San Francisco-based Electronic Frontier Foundation.
Just because the law protects them doesn’t make it right. No matter what anybody says no one can tell me that craigslist and backpage aren’t at least partially responsible for the child prostitution and human trafficking that takes place on their sites. After all they do provide sections on their sites dedicated to it. They’re not called the human trafficking sections but they might as well be.
And all it would take is to remove some code from their websites.
Brandon Quincy Thompson, 26, and his girlfriend Megan Marie Hayes, 30, of Tea, South Dakota have been federally charged with pimping out underage girls on backpage. Thompson and Hayes are both looking at life sentences.
For once a media outlet is finally calling backpage to task and backpage is acting familiar…
We contacted the BackPage Web site by email as to why such ads were being allowed on the site since they appeared to violate the terms of agreement. We have received no answer from the company.
It sounds like Village Voice Media is taking a page out of the book of craigslist.
