WA leads nation in parents opting out of vaccines:
If there is going to be a viral pandemic in this country odds are that somewhere in the state of Washington is going to be ground zero. According to a recent study the Evergreen State leads the country in children not being immunized at 6 percent. That may not seem a lot but it only takes one non-vaccinated child to start a pandemic.
I have a bone to pick with one of the quotes in the article…
“The world has changed,” said Dr. Jack Stephens, a pediatrician at The Everett Clinic. “It used to be the unimmunized child was the child of an economically disadvantaged family with poor access to health care.
“Nowadays, it’s usually well-educated parents of higher social status who do their own independent research and tell you what they’re willing to do.”
I think Dr. Stephens was being politically correct. If I was him I would have said that nowadays it’s parents with too much time on their heads who have bought into the Autism boogeyman. Do I even need to mention that the Autism link has been disproved?
As I’ve said before this is not a matter of choice this is a matter of public safety. Besides would you rather have a child with Autism, if that was even true, or would you rather have a child that was dead from an easily preventable disease.
It’s common sense.
This is an article about how some doctors in the US are declining treatment to children whose parents refuse to get them vaccinated. I say it’s about damn time and more if not all doctors are doing this.
It’s the doctor’s damn right to protect his other patients from ill-informed, misguided, stupid, gullible Luddites who won’t get their kids vaccinated because they believe in a bullshit theory that has been disproven that vaccines can give your kids autism.
So you stupid fucking morons would rather your kids get polio, measles or whooping-cough than rather dealing with an autistic child. You people are not only stupid but you’re selfish as well. It’s not about your children. It’s about the fact that you’re too fucking lazy to deal with a child that has autism. However the point still remains that they can’t get autism from vaccines. Even if it was true, which it isn’t, would you rather have a kid with autism or one that’s dead?
Thanks to morons like you diseases that were thought to have been wiped out a century ago have made strong comebacks.
And yes, I do think vaccinations should be mandatory. Fuck you and what you think you’re rights are. Your fucking stupidity is killing children all over this country.
When I was a child a parent didn’t even think twice about protecting their children from fatal diseases by getting them vaccinated.
Your kids aren’t stupid from vaccinations. You’re stupid for not getting them vaccinated.
Refusing to vaccinate a child is dangerous not just for that child but for entire communities. It’s precisely this point a colleague of mine was considering when he had the idea that parents who refuse to vaccinate their kids should pay substantially higher health insurance premiums.
That is an awesome idea. It’s time to make stupidity a taxing offense. Smokers often have to pay higher insurance rates because they (including me) engage in behavior that is knowingly hazardous to their health and is potentially fatal.
So is not getting your kids vaccinated.
An investigation published by the British medical journal BMJ concludes the study’s author, Dr. Andrew Wakefield, misrepresented or altered the medical histories of all 12 of the patients whose cases formed the basis of the 1998 study — and that there was “no doubt” Wakefield was responsible.
Can we finally move on and get your children vaccinated now? There is no scientific evidence that proves a link between vaccinations and autism. Besides, would you rather have an autistic child or one that dies from polio?
Fear mongering, hysteria and pseudoscience is why so many diseases that were once sought to be eliminated are making such a strong comeback.
AP Poll: Third of parents oppose swine flu vaccine:
Let’s go over this again. There is no scientific proof that vaccines cause autism. The odds of something happening to your kids from a vaccine are the same as winning the lottery. Personally I’d rather not have my kids die from swine flu but that’s just me.
If people like this were around in the 1930’s the iron lung industry would be doing a booming business.
A special court ruled Thursday that evidence presented in three cases by parents of children with autism did not prove a link between autism and certain early childhood vaccines.
Will you Luddites and conspiracy nuts get your kids vaccinated now?
Defending Vaccines: Actress Dispels Link To Autism:
My newfound respect for Amanda Peet keeps increasing.
Instead of spreading fear and junk science about vaccinations like Jenny McCarthy, Amanda Peet us speaking out in favor of vaccinating children and actually has a prominent doctor backing her up.
After her baby was born in early 2007, she decided to speak out publicly. Since then, she’s been advocating vaccination through interviews, talk show appearances, and public service announcements.
But Peet says parents shouldn’t look to her as a scientific expert. She defers scientific questions to Offit, who directs the Vaccine Education Center at Children’s Hospital.
And who does Jenny McCarthy have backing up her ridiculous claims?
That’s what I thought.
How about no?
So do you anti-vaccine fear mongers admit that you lost the battle over Autism and now you’re claiming Alzheimer’s?
I’m usually not one to laud celebrities but Amanda Peet was right. You people are parasites.
Debra Barnes has a thriving chiropractic practice in the Jackson metro area, a nice home and family members who love living in the South.
But she said she would leave Mississippi in a heartbeat if state health officials tried to force her home-schooled children to be immunized.
Barnes is part of a growing network of parents whose decision to home school their children rests on their belief that mandated vaccinations for public and private school children are a dangerous overreach by state governments.
While the mainstream scientific community maintains childhood vaccines are safe, Barnes relies on the work of apostate scientists who argue immunizations can bring on autism or weaken the natural immunities of children.
Barnes leads a group of about 200 parents around the state who have problems with Mississippi’s mandated vaccination schedule.
What? You expected a fake doctor to believe real doctors and scientists?
As flu season approaches, many New Jersey parents are furious over a first-in-the-nation requirement that children get a flu shot in order to attend preschools and day-care centers. The decision should be the parents’, not the state’s, they contend.
“This is not an anti-vaccine rally — it’s a freedom of choice rally,” said one of the organizers, Louise Habakus. “This one-size-fits-all approach is really very anti-American.”
Yet check out the sign…
This wasn’t a freedom of choice rally, it was a junk science rally. I applaud New Jersey for trying to prevent a pandemic. Personally if I ran a daycare I’d say no vaccine no daycare.
